Ultramarine Librarian with Freaky Familiar





For a 1k points game set in a Zone Mortalis. I don't have a huge amount of men, but this is a list I've set up to take advantage of the Ultramarine Legion Tactics.

HQ-
Legion Champion, with Legatine Axe, artificer armour, melta bombs and refractor field - 130

Primus Medicae, in Cataphractii Armour, with chainfist and combi-melta - 137

Troops-
Legion Tactical Squad, with extra CCW, Sergeant with artificer armour and power sword - 200

Legion Tactical Support Squad, with 5x Volkite Chargers - 125

Elites-
Contemptor Dreadnought with Kheres Assault Cannon - 190

Legion Terminator Squad in Cataphractii armour, 4x power fists, heavy flamer - 215

Total - 997


So, anything that could be added? I'm tempted to replace the Dreadnought with another Legion Tactical Squad, dropping melta bombs or one Sergeant's artificer armour.

Well if it were me, while I love my Twin kheres contemptor. I would actually suggest dropping him for a 5 man Heavy Squad with Missiles or Plasma Canons. The blast special rules for Zone Mortalis are fun, and the plasma canons will give you something beyond Weight of fire to deal with Heavy Infantry like a "pride of the legion" style Terminator force.

Well it depends, depending on how the board is set up you can get nice lines of fire.

Missiles, plasma cannons are great but if your Ultramarines then your rerolling 1s to wound already and missing the point of the blasts.

True, but AP2 can be very valuable. If you find yourself playing a cold void & poisoned air mission, the difference between 2+ and 3+ saves is massive, so people tend to default to terminator armour - especially an attacker, who has a compulsory elites choice!

it only takes a small plasma-armed unit to render a passage suicide to advance down.

At the same time, a tactical support squad may be more sensible; reaction fire is very powerful but you still can't use blast weapons; melta or plasma guns on the other hand can lay down a lethal curtain of fire.

I'll be honest, it's a pretty good list. The only thing I'd suggest, if you can make the points, is swapping out the tactical squad for breachers - breachers are tailor-made for zone mortalis games.
