Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Anyone know of any discounted sources for legitimate Forgeworld products? Specifically, I'm looking to add a Rhino to my army and would prefer to use the Deimos Pattern one from Forgeworld. HOWEVER, the plastic 40k version is available just about anywhere for 20% off MSRP, which would put it at about 30 USD. From Forgeworld, factoring in the mandatory 15% shipping and today's exchange rate, I'm looking at 60 USD. Massive difference. I'd be ok if there was a small markup for the resin version, but a doubling in price is hard to take. I'd rather spend that money on more Marines!

Any ideas, or does GW exclusively sell these models through Forgeworld.co.uk?

P.S., I'm well aware that eBay has discounted stuff, but I'm A. trying to stay away from recasts and B. nobody is selling unpainted Deimos Rhinos on eBay right now.

And I'm looking to avoid "this is an expensive hobby" and "save up" type comments. I'm aware that this is expensive. It's more a question of "I prefer A over B, but A costs 2x what B costs. Can I get A cheaper somewhere so I can have more models for my dollar?"

I don't think so. Forge World sells at full price even if you are a retailer. I'm not even sure if GW stores get a discount.

1. This is probably going to be my best option.

2. The money isn't an issue. The issue is that 60 bucks can get me either a fancy looking Rhino OR a plain looking Rhino plus 30 bucks worth of other stuff. That seems crazy.

3. From the reviews I've read, all of the Rhino recasts include resin recasts of the original plastic parts. While re-casters generally do a great job, their Rhino recasts are horrifying. I wouldn't so much be sacrificing morals as I would be sacrificing hobby standards. Not willing to entertain that idea. That's the main reason I'm looking for original parts.

Depends how much the size difference bothers you, but the look is certainly there.

You could try looking for original plastic Rhinos.

The old Rhinos don't have the same size than FW rhinos ?

I don't actually like the old, old Mk1 Rhinos. They aren't the same size and don't have the same quality of detail. To me, they just look like cheap toys... even very well painted ones.

I know it's not much, but you can always try to get together a group order to hit the free shipping minimum. My local game store occasionally has someone set up a big group Forge World order, and everybody gets together to order enough.

I get your pain. 1 British Pound per point when it comes to the Forge World Rhino's. I had a couple of the Mk1's sitting around, so I've been using those. Will probably just buy a regular Rhino when I decide I want a third in my army.

Not paying Forgeworld prices for those things.

Has anyone tried to get FW to remove the VAT tax for Non EU shoppers as we are not required to pay it?

The answer to your question is no. Those are FW prices, have to deal with them or buy recasts. That's why I only place orders when I'm buying enough to get free shipping.

Its too bad FW does not sell the upgrade kits anymore for rhino hulls. Extra armour = yes, but not upgrade. Now you have to buy the upgrade klt + rhino.

And don't buy the chinese (not sure about the USSR sellers) rhino recast hulls. My Scorpius was a nightmare. Now if you have a spare rhino hull sitting around, it is cheap er to chinese kit it and use the one you already have.

I'll probably just end up keeping an eye on eBay. I have about 35 more power armoured dudes, 5 terminators and a contemptor to paint before I'll be playing any games. The Rhino can wait a bit.

I saw a after market Rhino upgrade set on eBay for 3 bucks. You could also try to make your own.

I don't know about in the US but in Canada when you find one of those 20% off retailers, they usually carry forge world stuff as well for the same discount. Granted, it's probably not going to be THAT cheap after factoring in exchange rates, but it's still something. I know Meeplemart in Canada sells forge world stuff for that discount (and are currently my only source for forge world since canadian exchance rates are even more crap as of this writing).

That was actually one of the coolest little bits in any 40k book ever. I love that little reminder that 40k is supposed to occur in our far future. It's easy to forget and think of 40k as just another sci fi setting completely divorced from our reality.

^ This. FW doesn't sell to retailers like GW main does. I have never seen or heard of legit FW being carried anywhere other than FW site and the events they do. If someone is selling you FW at 20% off the FW site prices, either they like you enough to take a 20% loss on everything you buy or it's fake.

to continue on with the question at hand: have you considered scratch building your own? It's probably more work, but skill level depending, it could be worth it.

If it isnt second hand and you pay less than full forgeworld price it is not legit, whether you care about that is up to you. However if your paying 80% of retail for a recast your getting so ripped off that it isnt even funny.
