I hate these cults since one devestated my homeworld of beloved Aglia and my master Inquisitor Giuseppe Stone declared it Extremis Diablo and delivered it's death sentences. However with the foul mininons portals already active everything I knew had been destroyed. My name is Eron Camer and I have the honour to be the notary for the Conclave of Hrin composing of my master the dire, fell but fair and courteous Inquisitor Giuseppe Stone, the deadly and beautiful Inquisitor Gabrielle Cain and the dreadful manipulator Inquisitor Chirax von Grimme. I will start with a description of the varying agents of the Inquisition here I may as well start with myself. I am fortunate to be gifted with a trusted servitor to hold and carry for me the little thing who I call Gofer is a useful blighter although he appears to be developing intelligence and humour. I should tell my master but can't quite bring myself to as he would probably blame Daemonic corruption or hand Gofer over to the Adeptus Mechanicus and as he's the last Aglian alive along with myself I don't want to lose him. I would say the next most noticeable thing about me is my harpoon, its an old one for Nonopod hunting from my beloved homeworld another lost relic of Aglia. I also keep with me my records of home the last of my world. My master understands this desire and does not correct it even though all records of Aglia were ordered destroyed. He also still has nightmares over it and the guilt still wracks him a rare note of humanity in such a man" Notary Eron Camer 42010.

The model is Orhain the Erudite from Confrontation and will usually be counted as a Sage and Mystic. The head comes form a Cadian Guardsman mainly as I couldn't find his head when I rebased him. Thinking about it I should detail another base for these two for games.
Don't be fooled when dealing with Arbitrator Tremaine and his dog Buster while they may look like backwater yokels who can't grasp modern technology these 2 make a fell and deadly team. Buster seems able to detect the smell of Chaos a mile off and unlike most hounds rather than cowering it just makes him angry. Between them they led my master to the stronghold of the Cult of Flower Voices and survived the fight when countless fell. That was a grim victory where many brave servants of the Imperator lost their lives although the master banished the fiends they summoned by pure force of faith and high explosives. Since their service was so exemplary my master recruited them from Ancelot and they joined his retinue. Notary Eron Camer 42010


The model is the Cadwallon Mastiff handler on an Urban 40k base.

Right an explanation for this project. While I'm not a good painter I've been inspired by both the Inquisimunda stuff and my old backlog of Rackham Confrontation miniatures to create 3 Inquisitorial retinues for 40k. This will mainly involve rebasing and remodelling several models. I'll also put some background up for each model when made.The plan is this background will tie in with the setting of Ladysmith and Sector 7G I'm creating as a writing exercise. Several of these models have already been painted although I may decide to repaint some of them. Here's the brief overview of the warbands.
The Old Man respected trusted and a decisive leader Giuseppe Stone will be a Daemon Hunter Inquisitor Lord with a retinue mostly consisting of Cadwallon, Griffon and GW models.
Gabrielle Cain will lead an all Female warband to have at least some women on the table. Not quite sure how to put that in the fluff (I may make her a member of the Warrior Cults of Artemisia, give her strong Ecclesiarchy links or have it as pure coincidence). I'm thinking she'll be a Daemonhunter with a retinue designed with game effectiveness in mind
Chirax von Grimme will be a Witch Hunter Inquisitor leading a grim dark and gothic band of Dirz models showing of the Inquisitons darker side.....

I rather enjoyed working on Buster and Tremaine this morning so I decided to produce another 2 minions today.
"Brigdis scares me for some reason. I always feel she can see right through me and detect my darkest secrets. The young child was recruited by Inquisitor Cain from within the Underhive of Orion with her "sister" Methlin although what actual relationship between the two really is I'm not sure they seem to have been allies and compatriots for several years before their encounter with the Inquisitor. Their devotion to each other is actually rather sweet as far as I'm concerned although it's probably heresy to regard any relationship between a mutant and a normal as sweet. Although I have a feeling that Brigdis is actually Psychic which would explain why Inquisitor Cain brought the 2 out of the hive. I have to admit I'm personally unhappy about dragging a child into combat but are duty to the Emperor must come before such petty quibbles.. Notary Eron Camer 42010"

This model is the Rackham Confrontation Cadwallon Orphan of Avagddu, equipped with a TAG Socom pistol and a Cadian belt pack. She will be used as a mystic in the game.

Methlin is a powerful mutant and ferocious in the defense of her "sister" Brigdis. She has her uses but is unintelligent and slow she is almost incapable of speech. However in a fight I suspect she would be quite ferocious and she makes herself useful carrying whatever her "sister" asks of her. I suspect Inquisitor Cain only allowed her to live as she was useful although she is quite affectionate towards the Inquisitor it's most bizarre to watch actually. I'm slightly perturbed by her habit of referring to the Inquisitor as "Auntie" although it seems to amuse some of my compatriots no end!"


This is the Fury of Avagddu in the original version it's mean't to be an alternative profile that the Orphan turns into during the game. Originally I was tempted to paint her as the hulk. I've given her several backpacks and a commlink. She also has a piping conduit on her base. In the game she will represent a Combat Servitor with Power Fist.

Interesting start. Some of those sprue bits on the bases may still be a bit too recognizable though..

Really like the fluff you´re coming up with, my favorite so far is the arbitrator.

Keep at it, I´d like to see them painted.

Really interesting stuff, I was wondering how to do my inquisitor's retinue and this has given me plenty to chew over. Keep at it!

To be honest these will probably take a while but as the main aim is to recycle my Rackham models several others which were painted for the game originally will appear on square bases rather soon Xanthos. Actually I reckon using an Inquisitor's retinue as an excuse for recycling old models or buying those you really want from other ranges is the way to do it inmygravenimage. I'd encourage you to have a rummage and see what you find.........

I'm recycling urban war for much of my cadian force, and =I= and assassin have been made from that range as well, while my hq psyker is a minipainters fig. I'm not shy! (mind you I even made warmachine scrap thralls out of necrons). I might just have to start rummaging around my Dirz box...

I have to say as Chirax von Grimme's the Sykho Volerterus model, though I'm not sure quite how I'll tweak it. Him and his warband are going to be dark currently I'm going for a hardline puritan Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor who enjoys his work as do his minions......

"Chirax von Grimme has several alien creatures called Risp. They seem intelligent, malevolent and with a nasty sense of humour. I've seen them pester and follow Buster around who hates them with a passion. I'm not sure who'd win between the pack of these and the great mastiff. However as Von Grimme seems to be linked with the little Imps I'd hate to see the consequences. Chirax von Grimme acquired these from the Adeptus Biologis he is popular with them as he's provided many miscreants to the flesh forges to be reborn as servitors. I believe they come from the world of Targen IX a diabolical jungle world in the Candar sector. However Chirax von Grimme seems to object to me chronicling and questioning him so I can not confirm this"


This is just a Pest of Flesh rebased for 40k without any modelling and in my normal Dirz scheme. In the game I plan to use these as Familiars.

Looking good so far. Big FAIL for using a warmachine base, but I think Ill let it slide this time

My master recognised a latent precognitive power within him which gave him what the layman call a "Witchsniffer nose" the ability to detect the corrupt miasma of the Immaterium." He's simply my old Griffon Magistrate rebased. The base uses card to create a planking effect which has been painted in rusted corroded metal to represent the random surfaces and pathways of a forgeworld complex.

I'm not sure what to make of Gwendolyn she's a rather sweet charming young woman, with a gentle temperament. A woman so unsuited to this galaxy and our duty I sometimes can't believe her. She's accompanied by her familiar a Grey Squiggle she calls Trevor. She seems to have several precognitive gifts but more importantly for Inquisitor Cain she can detect hiding for some reason this makes her amazingly useful for ferreting out secrets. For instance I'm fairly sure she knows of Gopher's intelligence although thankfully she hasn't told her mistress. While I consider Inquisitor Cain less malefic than Inquisitor Von Grimme one can never be sure what they take offense to. They are also without fail utterly paranoid about people who keep secrets. Probably the most hypocritical aspect of their calling if you ask me. Gwendolyn comes from the Starship Sapphire Rose originally and on that ship all crew kin tatoo their faces blue. She was recruited by Inquisitor Cain while the Inquisitor was enroute aboard the merchantman between Sphiros and Nago. They apparently met in the ships cocktail bar and Inquisitor Cain immediately recognised her value and recruited the hostess.


She's the Rackham Kelt Shaman rebased for 40k and I'm planning to use her as a Mystic.

I do not like Father Nathaniel Skinner as he's a bigot and a sensationalist within 5 minutes of anybody disagreeing with them he declares them a heretic. It's really quite trying. Father Nathaniel Skinner was a priest on Baddiel IV who had the shear effrontery to attempt to hunt us down as witches. My master was rather amused and when Skinner and his cronies had us cornered and threatened to dismember us, the master simply turned his electoo on him and smiled saying "Your faith and devotion does you credit however I am not your prey join me and hunt it". He and his followers a rather rag-tag bunch of peasants were mildly useful in the later encounter with a daemon who rode on a hideous daemonic mount (In the hideous pages of the Codex Daemonicus such is referred to as a Bloodcrusher). They distracted it for long enough for us to call in the air strike which killed it. Holding it up for a good twenty minutes while it attempted to hunt them all down. It managed to kll forty one of them however fortunately for Skinner he was the lucky Forty Two blesses of the Emperor and the Marauder came down at that moment. I've never quite understood how he forgave my master for the carnage and technically treachery of that night. When I questioned the master about his actions he simply admitted that there was no way we could face such a force in combat ourselves as the Daemon was of the rank my master called a Herald. Of all the things I regret most about following the master it is this hideous knowledge. I still remember their screams


This model is one of the Daemon Hunters from the Griffin Range for Confrontation. This model has a chainsword as nothing says 40k more than a Chainsword except perhaps a pile of skulls.....

The Prophet of Angmar, Gerard Schultz was a noted precognisant and part of the court of the Governor of Angmar III where he made predictions which were unerringly accurate. His sword is a traditional Angmar Broadsword while the book he bears the Tome of St Morgoth holds tales of Angmars liberation during the High Crusade. It contains some fascinating discussions of the personality of Fulgrim that might provide us more knowledge of why he betrayed his master. I can remember Grisk asking Schultz why if he knew the Inquisitor was coming to recruit him he stayed at court. Schultz is response was that it was better to live in his service than to be killed by him. Which makes a lot of sense to me.

Gerard Schultz is a Rackham Griffin Exorcist on a 40k base the model is precisely as is.

Of all Chirax von Grimmes followers Rebus von Freid is certainly the most intelligent and likeable you wouldn't know to look at it but behind his grim battle mask and his great sword there lies an intelligent and charismatic man. Like many worlds Nieu Bogenhafen from which he hails holds several temples of dedicates to the Emperor who serve him in combat theoretically with the enemies of the Imperium but generally in my experience with whoever opposes the power of the temple. He is skilled and deadly with his blade and a credit to the order he serves his temple is known as "The Brothers of the New Dawn" and aims to create a new golden age. Unusually for a such an institution they go about this not by attempting to seize as much power as possible for themselves but by sending out Dawn Templars like Rebus. I have seen him in combat only once but I watched as he hewed an Ork in two a prodigious feat of strength.

Chirax von Grimme is popular among the Adeptus Biologis for securing many samples. Personally I have heard rumours that he suspects there is a genetic component that makes certain individuals more likely to betray the Imperium than others. I have heard rumours of him gleefully dissecting captured heretics. He has been assigned a noted Secutor of their order as well as a Servitor Assault Section. SAX-09 is one of the simpler Combat Servitors with an Implant Chainsaw and Implant Claw.

I decided to convert up a few Hybrids into an Arco-Flagellant squad. Its a simple hand swap and rebase with the hand swapped for the blade of a Chainsword. I've got another 4 of these waiting for undercoating. There will also be Penitent Engines at some point.......

On the first model the GW head does not fit that model at all...

Originally I'd have said that was the point of it as the high tech gubbins don't fit with the scribe's quill which struck me as very 40k. Then I realised what you actually meant ph34r and decided to do a headswap with a thinner Wargames Factory head with scratchbuilt bionics. I'll share it once its painted.

My master has long been a patron of the monks of the Brotherhood of the Flame of Retribution. The Brotherhood is a cult which dominates one of the Indig tribes of the Flame of Retribution an Emperor Class Battleship assigned to the Ladysmith Patrol Group. The Brotherhood have recently been recruited by the ships Commissariat as elite Enforcers who serve them through out the ship as Spies and Killers. Their faith in the Emperor is huge but it was rather amusing to watch Brother Philemon and Brother Androcles react to the world beyond their craft for the first time. They have a bizarre mix of great technical competence and an utter lack of knowledge about life on planets. Their reaction to the idea of day and night and weather was rather bemusing and in anybody else I'd say touching. They are however both utterly ruthless killers who have no loyalty to anybody save the master. Philemon and Androcles have only recently joined us however several others of there order have served with us before. Most impressive of these was Brother Titus who successfully hacked down a pack of Plaguebearers unfortunately he contracted the Rot and so had to be executed regrettable though that was. The individual shown in the image is Brother Philemon.

I've painted Eron Camer with a redone head. The head comes from the Wargames Factory Ancient Germans and is far more gracile than the blocky square headed Cadian head. The Bionics were scratchbuilt from myself and involve random pieces from plasticard and bits of thin spears and other ephemera. This proves you shouldn't through any modelling stuff away. I have to say he looks far better with the narrower head and while he looks younger than ever I like that as it plays with popular stereotypes.

Friar Jan Sybolt is one of the toughest men I have ever met the last monk of the mendicant order of St Colin he was one of only a dozen survivors when the Friary was sacked by Orks. During the attack he was at the forefront of the battle killing a dozen and losing a hand in combat with a brutish leader. He was medevaced by the 756th Naval Support Group to a small settlement called Broomhill, their he claimed his Chain Axe to go with his Shotgun that he'd already looted from the Orks. They healed him and gave him his Bionic Hand. Then the word came that the Friary had fallen and the capital. Later news confirmed the loss of all coherent Imperial Forces on the planet (Fostrad IV). Friar Sybolt eventually became the head of a huge peasant army which defeated and ran out the Orks after a long and arduous struggle. After they'd destroyed the Orks the Imperial Expeditionary Force arrived and inducted him and his men into the Guard. Sybolt was declared a Army Group Chaplain a role usually held by a Bishop. He has joined the Conclave as a seperate member on equal standing as the Inquisitors and his poor appearance belies his huge power.

This model is the Mordheim Warrior Priest with an Ork Nob Chain Axe and a Gorkamorka Shotgun as well as a Space Marine hand as a bionic leg, no sorry hand. He's to be used as a Priest he's assembled based on the Guard Codex even though I'm mainly planning to be using him for Witch Hunters to allow me to use my Arco-Flagellants and Penitent Engines.

Tarah Harding was recruited by Inquisitor Cain during the defense of Sarum's Bridge. The Plasma Gunner from the 48th Willises World PDF acquitted herself with distinction killing several of the enemy and leading her platoon into action when her Lieutenant died. She was recruited for her cool discipliine under fire her bravery and leadership but far more importantly according to Inquisitor Cain her luck. She's also a highly skilled sword fighter and noted for her knife wielding as welll

She's the Warrior Girl model from the Last Chancers with a bodged up Plasma Gun using her Lasgun a Plasma Pistol and some plastic rod. she is natural an IG veteran with Plasma Gun.
STJ-09 is another Combat Servitor assigned to Servito Team 09 in Chirax von Grimme's Servitor Assault Section.

This model uses GW Servitor components combined with a Rackham Hybrid.

Corporal Bruce Stein is a shaky individual noted mainly used for his aptitude with Computers. He's notorious for his way with them a skill which is very useful to the Inquisitor he is also notoriously larcenous and generally lax with his understanding of ownership. I have however been impressed with his agility and skill with entry and stealth. His shakes I believe are due to having come rather to close to a Chaos Marine something which has deeply scarred his psyche. I can understand this as the site of one who has been gifted so much by the Emperor turning to the fallen lords is a horrific chilling concept. Indeed personally I find the idea more abhorrent than any of the Daemonic minions of Chaos which of ocurse were created purely to serve them. I may be being to harsh to the fellow he is actually rather loyal to the master and has always helped us live a more comfortable life with his skills

He's just Brains from the Last Chancers without any fiddling. I'm planning to use him as a Sage in 40k.

This is a swift no model update I'll probably be adding a Rogue Trader party pretty soon.

Hey Chief, I noticed rackham has some wicked miniatures, some of which I would love to use the sameway you are right here. But, are they unpainted? or do you need to strip the poxy paint off first?

These are all the old metal ones and were unpainted unfortunately they switched to pre-paints and a different rule scale (Which really annoyed me I was if they kept to the same game style going to do a force for each faction). Several of these I'd already painted but I just minimally repainted them and touched them up. Back on topic the new prepaints can probably just be spray painted over but you'd have to ask somebody else for definite Platuan4 might well know for sure. I've done it fine over D&D prepaints but never on Rackhams or you can hunt the older models down on Ebay, there seems to be plenty. Theres also some absolutely brilliant offers on there webstore as well.

Aristedes is a man of mystery I've never heard him say a word or seen his face he always wears his armour and helm. He is a penitent psyker of some sort although Inquisitor Von Grimme is his usual charming loquacious self when I mentioned him....If it were not for my masters seniority in the conclave I'd have been executed which is extreme even for him...

The model is the rackham Confrontation Dirz Neuromancer used as is.
I've also used some Black Scorpion Western models with a few minor conversions to create an Arbitrator fire team I'll discuss in this project as well more about each member when I paint them.....

Grisk was a minor criminal from Rencelind. He is a sarcastic and impertinent rogue who is barely tolerable. He lived within the desert settlements running a thriving smuggling trade. This lasted until he witnessed the rites being undertaken at a small settlement Gryndel's Well. These dark and gruesome rites were also being investigated by my master who was surprised and delighted to see them terminated by a large posse of vengeful locals rather than having to get his hands dirty. My master inducted several of these fighters as Acolytes and arranged pardons for the rest.

MGM-09 is another of Chirax von Grimmes Servitor Assault Section.

Thaddeus Glee is a Chirugeon of the Adeptus Biologis. He is a kind, gentle man with a good natured young fatherly face which he uses to good effect when working on the wards in hospitals. This is something he does as often as his dutys permits. Quite often he is the most skilled surgeon the sick and injured will ever receive. He personally implanted my eye several months ago and did it with skill and compassion withan exceptional therapeutic matter. It was a huge shock when I saw him don the terrible mask of his orders combat arms and far greater still was my horror at seeing the results of his specialist labours for Van Grimme. He is an interrogator and explicator beyond compare at that grim business. I've viewed one of his interrogations and can't help but hope its the last I see......



I'm rather happly with this model. The painting is some of the more ornate stuff I've done (and been happy with the end result). I'm also delighted with the colour choice the dirty whites and reds imply a twisted Nurses outfit which just works. Making him kind and gently rather than a sadist is because I enjoy messing with preconceptions in my writing.

"Misha is the least alien and sinister looking of Chirax von Grimme's associates however the grizzled old man is a sadistic torturer who takes a positive glee in his work. However the information he has produced has always been of top quality and allowed Chirax to break some of his most famous cases. Misha's most fabled accomplishment was the breaking of T'slen Squi Kee the Hrud assassin who attempted to kill General Yanakov. Applying his skills to the Hrud assassin caused some difficulties due to the perverse nature of the Xeno's sensory apparatus and his fanatic training. However Misha's work caused the Hrud to betray the base of his cell enabling the 213th army group to crush it destroying it utterly and saving the world for the Emperor. In this work the ends do justify the means."


Misha is the Black Scorpion Ship's Doctor. Black Scorpion is a small obscure UK company which produces a lot of wonderfully characterful models like this. They'll be more from them to come on this blog. He was a joy to paint and nice and simple after the ornacy of Thaddeus Glee. They have Cow Boys, some great pirates (including Orcs, Dwarfs and an awesome Giant) take a look at the models here

Quick question anybody have some idea how to paint Cowboy Enforcers? Black seems certain but anything else?

Haven't really been in the mood to paint lately so I haven't accomplished much.
Horatio Hawkins was the son and heir to James Hawkins a Rogue Trader who aided my master for years until he was caught in flagrant derelicto with the wife of the governor of Spinoza III. His ship managed to escape the wrath of the governor but he wasn't so lucky. Horatio is a plucky young lad who is far to confident for his own good. He is however popular among his crew and given his age it is surprising that he has survived his inheritance. He still acts in support of my Master for the greater good of the Imperium.

The model is the Black Scorpion Cabin Boy.

In battle my master Giuseppe Stone wields a fearsome blade and dagger known as Cy'greddayr's Bane. The pair I'm told are ancient having been forged during the time of the Armageddon War to be the bane of the Daemon Prince Cy'greddayr scourge of Tarsis Hive. Quite how my master gained the weapons he has never told me. It coruscates with power both of the technomagics of the forgepriests and the psionics of my master. His ancient and ornate armour was forged on Ladysmith at the behest of Inquisitor Hsien Anukovashi a famed hunter. My master was presented it for his most fell deed the destruction of my homeworld. I hate it and wish he had refused it. Why they rewarded him for that sin I'll never understand

He's the Griffin Templar Commander Arkhos model with a Magistrates Judgement Blade. Originally intended to represent Inquisitor Taetrius from the Ragnarok box set.He's the first of the 3 Inquisitors. I'm happy with the blade effect which dominates the model. The purple cloak is designed to represent Imperial Authority while the bronze/gold armour is designed to look like an ornate heirloom.
The master recruited Arbitrator Jones along with his squad from Wyomas Minoris during the purging of Los Alamis from the forces of Tziarkis. The magus Tziarkis was an expert at infiltrating cults into loyalist populations and the master ended up entirely focussed on dealing with these cults. This lasted for three years until warriors from the Blood Hawks chapel toppled Los Alamis and killed Tziarkis. The master decided to keep several of the local lawmen who had excelled with him and inducted them into the Adeptus Arbites. Jones is a dour laconic man who rarely speaks save to ask for more whiskey.

This model is one of the Black Scorpion Cowboys with no conversions. I painted him in fairly understated black and browns rather than in a military police uniform as the model represents a local lawman not an Adeptus Arbites.
