SO, this is my first post on this site, so bear with me!
I've been collecting warhammer for roughly 14 years, since I was just a little guy in grade 8, played a bit..but mostly i just collected to paint and what not. So a month ago, I decided I wanted to give this a shot and stick with, as far as I was concerned, the best fluff army in the entire warhammer world, whether it be
WHFB or
40K.....Greenskins.
Now bearing in mind i've never actually made an army list for over 14 years at this point, I wanna have an army which is very Greenskin fluff oriented...so basicly alot of foot sloggin boys , some sneaky goblins and some big, tough creatures to be my heavy hitters. I've never been a huge fan of calvary really. Why? To be honest..I dont really have much of a reason. I just find them typical, and for greenskins,
id rather use other units like squig hoppers, giants, trolls, etc, to create alot of threats on the flanks or go caster or warmachine crew hunting.
So based on this idea...Im wondering if the following idea for tactics can actually work. I know that it's Greenskins, and animosity will happen, shammies are gonna explode, trolls are gonna be stupid, etc...but here we go!
My basic idea for the core of my army is 2 units of 30-40 night goblins. I've always loved the idea of fanatics, and i'd love to utilize them in any battle. mainly my gobbos would be on the flanks of the army, so if calvary or heavy hard hitting flankers come by, I can throw some fanatics out and take some guys down, or at least keep them wary from charging. I'll prob throw some spears and shields on the gobbos. I dont expect them to survive a whole lot of anything if they get into a fight, but at least they'll take the charge with some offense back, and shields will prevent maybe a couple from dying, preventing a loss in rank. And from what i remember about Warhammer, combat resolution wins combat, not the best hero at the front who kills everything in his path (although they help too)
so naming my name tarpit unit, the center of the army would most likely be two units of boyz, probably 30 strong each. I was thinking of black orcs or biguns at first, but in my opinion, I dont think the higher point cost really justifies having them. Black orcs maybe in a high point battle, but for a unit of 20 with all upgrades, including a decent standard, they're around 350 +, and they're only walking around with an armor save of 4+, and even that could be compromised if you decide to use the armed to da teef rule over shields. I'd most likely have my army general on a boar or something in one of these units. I want my warboss at the center of the army for leadership and to let the enemy know that even if they charge my basic boyz, they are still in for a beating.
Now after my main body of the army is there....I love greenskins for the fact they field some of the biggest, craziest, coolest models in the
GW model range in my opinion. For my threatening flanking units, I was thinking to go all out or nothing....trolls and giants. I know that giants tend to be taken down by shooting, and trolls have stupidity to go against them, but to be honest, I dont care. I wouldnt even wanna imagine being an enemy general seeing 3 -4 trolls and a giant barelling down on them.
Id like to think these units could cause some intimidation and hopefully do some good bashing after my boyz get stuck in melee, whether through animosity results or Waaagh!.
after that, im not sure what to do with extra points. I figure with what ive listed so far, i can easily have about 1000 points accounted for, if not more around 1500. the last few slots I was thinking some warmachines. maybe doom divers? unit of squighoppers to go warmachine and caster hunting? Maybe get some spider riders to threaten flanks and bait units too. Any other input would be greatly appreciated!
Glad to be aboard!!
