Hi guys,

i am very new at this i have never done a battle report so i hope you all enjoy it. first off i would like to say that there are a few errors in this rules wise e.g. my friend though hive guard weapons always hit rear armour, so if you see any glaringly obvious problems in the rules and how we played please feel free to say but remember it was my friends first ever game with 'nids and it was still very tense and fun! also i realise there are only 4 turns, this is because we have only a limited amount of time before our Girlfriends came home and we went to the pub for a meal

Army lists:
DaThing (Jon): Imperial Spartan Space Marines:
Captain - 2x lighning claws, terminator armour
Terminators - lighning claws
Sternguard - 9 marines, 2x combi meltas, rhino
Tac squad x2 - 10 marines, Razorback, Melta gun, missile launcher, power weapon
storm raven - (using WD rules oked by opponent as heavy support) assault cannon, TL meltas, hurricane bolters
Predator destructor
thunderfire cannon

Zac: Hive Fleet Bishop (im not too sure on what hes got upgrade wise ):
Hive tyrant w/ 1 guard - bonesword lash whip, heavy venom cannon
hive guard x3
mawlock
trygon prime
3 warriors - venom cannon barbed strangler
2x 10 termagaunts - upgraded gun (forgotten which)
12x hormagaunts - adrenal glands
12x genestealers w/ broodlord - rending claws
2x zoans
3x lictors - rending claws

Mission : Capture and control

Deployment: pitched battle

Marine objective:

Nid objective:

Leaders:

Captain Barros:

Xeno threat, codenamed "squishy" :

Deployment:

Marines:

Nids:

Reserves:

Marines: NONE

Nids:

Hormagaunts, Genestealers, trygon prime, lictors.

Tyranids get turn 1 marines fail to seize INT:

Turn 1 Nids:

Mawlock burrows

hive tyrand, warriors, hive guard and termagaunts advance 6"

warriors and hive tyrant attempt to kill thunderfire with vemon cannons but both miss wildly. termagaunts out of range!

hive guard wreck the sternguards rhino

Turn 1 marines:

predator and razors move forward.

Storm raven flies forward, sternguard go into building.

termis and captain disembark.

thunderfire shreds most of the termagaunt unit

2x crack MISSiles attempt to shoot hive tyrant..... SNAKE EYES!

predator unloads on the hive tyrant with autocannon..... both miss!

storm raven unloads all its shooting on the warriors and causes 4 wounds from hurricane bolters, assault cannon and machine spirited assault cannon! happy days!

terminators charge into the termagaunts

and kill them all consolodating forward!

End of turn 1 summary: well overall this was quite a nice round for me, my main goal was the kill off his troops so even if things go wrong for it would result in a draw so in that respect it went well for me. However the amount of 1s i rolled has set the mood for this game i hoped and willed my dice to get better.....

Turn 2 nids:
RESERVES: trygon arrives!

mawlock burrows and scatters

hive tyrant still slogging it forward.

the zoans he forgot about last turn move into line of sight

hive guard move away from terminators and pop the storm raven! hive tyrand tries to shoot marines in builing but fail epically! warrios try and shoot the terminators but once again all miss

trygon prime shoots the marine snear the objective and kills 2.

zoans try to warp lance the razorback but 1 fails his psychic test and the other fails to penetrate due to a coversave!

Turn 2 marines:

combat squad bails out of razorback

what my turn of shooting does:

- sternguard with hellfire rounds pumping 14 shots and 2x melta at trygon cause....1 wound!
- 2 combat squad in bulding pumping 2x krak missiles and 12 boltguns shots at trygon cause...... 1 wound!
- predator gunning the mawlock causes..... no wounds!
- thunderfire cannon at hive tyrant misses with all 4 shots!
- 2x razorbacks shooting at the mawlock causes....... no wounds
- 1 melta gun from disembarked squad at the mawlock causes ..... 1 wound but bolters fail to wound!

terminator squad charges the warriors and wipes them out, they try and consolidate away form the hive tyrant

(i know this looks very close but my friend nudges the building to the left shunting the hive guard closer than they should be, hes a clumsy man!)

trygon regenerate a wound

turn 2 summary: well, well, well.... what an epic balls up! in this turn i should have killed that trygon many many times over but i rolled enough ones to make Draigo cry (i know we did... with laughter)! and as far as Zac passing his armour saves it was incredible to see someone roll 13 dice in one go (from sternguard) and only get a single 2 EPIC! at this point i knew i would be at a loss hopefully holding out for a draw, its wether Louise (my girlfriend) would cut her shopping trip short and come and save me in time!

Turn 3 Tyranids:
RESERVES: all come in!

mawlock re burrows

hive guard move away from terminators, hive tyrand moves toward terminators and zoans move towards terminators

zoans melt a terminator with warp lance

hive tyrant out of charge range runs even closer!

lictors use barbs to shoot thunderfire cannon, cause 2 wounds and i roll and armour save of.... 3, YES.... 1, DEAD!

hive guard shoot the predator and destroy it!

trygon shooting at the razorbacks rear blows of the turret.

Turn 3 Marines:

marine squad disembarks turretless razorback

combat squad moves towards objective building

it was a tough choice but i needed to kill as many troops as a can, so the sternguard rapidfired the genestealers with dragonfire bolts ( AP4) killing all but the broodlord and 2 stealers, with 25% caulaties gone it was panic test time he rolled..... 11! They were running and off the board!

2 crack missiles, 2 melta guns, 24 boltguns shots and 3 heavy bolter shots shoot the trygon causing......3 wounds, DAMN! one short of killing the big bug!

terminators charge the hive tryant in a vain attempt to hold him off and get a KP, his lash whip makes them all INT 1 and 1 wound gets through to my captain with the bonesword, i have LD of 10 so i roll.......11 SPLAT! the rest of the attacks and hiveguard kill 1 terminator

my attacks back wound the guard once, i lose by 3 but the marines pass their LD test and sacrifice themselves

the trygon regenerate NONE! he forgot!

Turn 3 summary: Oh dear! this game is panning out to be a real disaster, i have constantly missed with my heavy hitting weapons and the best thing i can hope for is a draw he has one troops choice left and a very wounded trygon. most of all i never knew the hive tyrant was so hard! especially bonesword they are evil!

Turn 4 Nids:

mawlock pops up killing 4 of my tac marines leaving the Sgt. thanks to the phermones of the lictors

zoans move forward

hormagaunts move towards objective and fleet inside....

Lictors use their barbs to shoot the sternguard killing 3 thanks to abysmal rolling and then charge causing 6 wounds all of which i......

Spoiler:

FAIL! NO LIE

hive tyrant murders the termis

and once again he forgets about the trygon .....and charging the hormagaunts!

Turn 4 marines

all marines move toward the objective contesting it with a squad of 3 marines, a lucky melta kills the ruddy trygon on the way!

razorback fails to wound mawlock.... again

........Suddenly a moment of respite appeared for the imperial spartans from the doorway of the conservatory, the goddess of hope Louise entered the room, shined her light and uttered the hallowed words of wisdom "heres your credit card, fancy getting dinner now?" and with that the game ended.

Result DRAW: 1 unclaimed objective (nids) 1 contested objective (marines)

turn 4 summary: HELL, that was a tough game, but very fun, im standing by the fact my rolling was atrocious during the whole game (6 1's in a row!) and also for a beginner Zac was very sharp he knew what his stuff was doing and how to do it. Although this may have been the most fickle outcome of my life it was only due to his lack of awareness at some stages that i got this draw, next time he wont be so forgetful until then..... goodnight!

C&C welcome!

It wasnt bad. War-gamers are just lazy and generally find nothing to talk about outside of controversy. Its a very good report. The action was easy to follow and the pictures were very good. Gave me a sense of what was going on, and had a bit of a cinematic nature to them.

Firstly listen to gpfunk, alotta peple [myself included] lurk pages and just don't post.

secondly;
"storm raven unloads all its shooting on the warriors and causes 4 wounds from hurricane bolters, assault cannon and machine spirited assault cannon! happy days!"
it sounds like you used the machine spirit to fire the assault cannon 2x this is not how potms works. It allows you to fire one weapon when you are not normally able, it does not allow you to fire the same weapon 2x.

Tyranids, we do psychic powers... better.

thank you very much with your reply, however i have read the potms entry, all it says is "you may fire one weapon your not norminally allowed to fire", and your not norminally allowed to fire the same weapon twice. it mentions knowhere in the entry that you may not fire the same weapon twice, i have discussed this with my opponent on the day and my FLGS all of which agree you are allowed to fire a wepon twice due potms.

i feel that this entry is very ambiguous and quite open to interpretation, so i dont want you to feel like in saying your wrong its just the way me and many other people percieve it, however if i have missed anything as a scim read it please let me know

Sounds like a good, tough game!
Just a quick note,
it was a tough choice but i needed to kill as many troops as a can, so the sternguard rapidfired the genestealers with dragonfire bolts ( AP4) killing all but the broodlord and 2 stealers, with 25% caulaties gone it was panic test time he rolled..... 11! They were running and off the board!

It looks like in the picture that the stealers are right next to the trygon prime. They should be fearless since they were in synapse. No running for them!

we looked in the book when it came to that and stealers do not benefit from synapse or have instinctive behaviour..... atleast thats what we gathered.

They do not have Instinctive Behavior.
All Tyranids within 12" of a Synapse creatures are Fearless.

And potms does not let you fire a weapon twice - read the entire entry.

Also, Tyranid Warriors can only have one heavy weapon (either a barbed strangler or a venom cannon - not both)

Good batrep though.

Hi, thanks a lot for your reply I guess we missed the synapse thingy , however I have read the POTMS entry and there is no mention of firing the same weapon twice; all it says is "you may fire one weapon your not norminally allowed to fire", it does not specify which weapon. Thanks for liking the bat rep!

That's not what it says actually.

BA Codex wrote:The vehicle can fire one more weapon than would normally be permitted... Therefore, a vehicle that has moved at combat speed can fire two weapons, and a vehicle that has either moved at cruising speed, or has suffered a 'Crew Stunned' or 'Crew Shaken' result can fire a single weapon.

When you fired the assault cannon, how many weapons had you fired? 1.
What speed had you moved? Cruising.
How many weapons are you normally permitted to fire at this speed? 1 + defensive.
How many does POMS allow you to fire? One more weapon than normally be permitted. I.e. 2.
Does POMS say it ignores any other restrictions? No.
Does it give you explicit permission to fire the same weapon twice? No.

Also, not to be a downer, so... Great report! I laughed at the BOOM marker on the bottom of the vehicles.

That's in the first post. It was approved by his opponent as heavy support.

Ditto Not that nids have vehicles, but when I paint up my Soul Drinkers I might copy that...

thanks alot for all your replies expecially Pretre for clearing up the POTMS for me (not that it did any good this game ). i honestly think that putting the rules for the storm raven in white dwarf when it already available in the codex GK and BA was a bit thick on GWs part.

Great report, the right amount of pictures and words.

I'm in love with your terminator captain and squad, beautifully modeled, I was rooting for them!

Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee.

Good report, it was a fun read (nice touch have the crashed speeder inside a ruin like it crashed through the roof)! I can't get over how bad your luck was with the dice. Had they been your friend I think you could have had the nids on their heels...if they have heels.

thank you for the great reply, as far as it goes the dice were atrocious but it did make a fun read on the 28th we have round 2 coming up so expect another more story oriented Batrep very soon! Hopefully the Spartans can cleanse the threat from their home planet once and for all....

Good luck in your rematch! Dawn of War II wasn't my introduction to 40K, but it's what got me really interested in the universe. Because of this, I say with all honesty I do not like the Tyranids.

Hey, why not using some green/grey/black tablecloth or sheet next time for your tabletop. Probably it'll add some more atmosphere?

What's this big nice ruine/fortress by the way?

Cheers buddy!

unfortunately we have bad news, i forgot my camera so the battle rep wont be up as soon as expected :( also LtCmdrBareik i have taken your sound advise and bought an old tablecloth, the old fortress is from an old game called dark world, you can usually get incomplete sets for about a tenner. Ricedaddy, unfortunately the rematch didnt go so well, i ballsed up really badly, WHY DID I COMBAT SQUAD IN A KILL POINT GAME! i lost 7-9 KP
