I never gave them a chance but I used them recently as a bunker for the priest and I found that they can actually do quite a bit of damage. The main thing I forgot was that righteous smiting gives multiple shots (2), and no negative to hit is delicious. Archers can attack without being attacked and they can pick, choose, and change targets every turn and don't have to move to attack, they can stay nice and cozy behind the heavy hitters.
Chariots have always been nice, with 8 move and swiftstride their great to have around. The only reason they got worse for me is I started playing with terrain, aka a group of 6 chariots passing through a forest is going to have an average of one chariot explode.
Warriors are a nice solid core, with a prince and necrotect they become a decent fighting unit. Though buyer beware they will eat anything else thats fighting with them with combat resolution.
Horse Archers are expensive archers with scout.
And Horseman are a burning bag of poop.
What do you my fellow Tomb Kings field for your core?

I tend to see several units of archers and units of 6ish chariots. 2-3 units of 20 and/or a large unit of 60 with Khalida.
I almost never see Spearmen. CC duties fall to the Tomb Guard and Chariots.

Chariots archers, I'm thinking about a small unit of horse archers to hide a light mage in.

I'm going for a huge block of Archers with Khalida, but aside from that, I used Horse Archers a bit ago and absolutely loved them. It might have just been lack of rules-knowledge or beginners luck, but I had a unit of 8 in a 500 point game and they just ran rampant through the enemy's entire army.
Don't use them just for shooting (though since they don't have 'arc' and can shoot on the go they're rather nice for that, too) but go ahead and charge them, especially into flanks and rears, which are accessible due to Vanguard and Scout (light Cavalry).
But yeah, loving the Archers. Funny thing, is that I'm going from Orks (BS 2) to TK (BS 2), so my shooting is effectively not changing at all!

I run 4 units of 30 to fill up my core. 4d6 +d3 +4 usually gives me a boosted smiting and i can just sit back and pewpewpew all day long. Sphinxes are the combat focus of my list.
But yes archers are flipping awesome.

I still love my big block of skellies led by every hero and lord in my book - well a TK with DOE, BSB herald and NEcrotect.
I do run 19 arhcers to bunker my Heiro and yes I'm glad you're finally seeing how awesome archers are. I used to bunker cheap - in warriors - then I realized for just a few more points per model I could actually /do/ something during the shooting phase.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Ahh I also do run 8 horse archers to march block/be annoying
