I play quite small games at the moment-about 1500 max.

Now I have a couple of games coming up next week and would like to try a Strollarz list. However, because of the low points I'm not keen to get an Anvil; every list of this sort seems to one.

Is this points level too low to go for a tricksy "fast dwarf" list?

The anvil is what makes dwarf lists as quick as other lists as it can give you that movement, without it I don't see how it is a fast list!

You kind of need the anvil for covering flanks.
1500 points leaves a lot of open space for flanking units, and a melee dwarf army doesn't have much of a chance of getting out on the flanks.
Melee Dwarfs don't really need the extra 6" of forward movement. Tons of T4 guys with great weapons survive well enough crossing the table, and it doesn't matter if combat starts turn 4 instead of turn 3.
Often I see the Strollarz rune a smirk. I'm going to run at the dwarves anyway, so combat is still going to happen early; my dwarf opponent just blew 55 points.

Really, Strollarz only helps if your marching into a gun line, and for that the anvil is way better.

So I went with a Strollarz list after posting this. In hindsight I lerned exactly what you've said. It wasn't really any faster, and points could possibly have been spent better elsewhere. Having said that, it was fun. I will just have to get an Anvil, and try again I guess :/
