I have recently received 3 new warriors. What weapons are reccomend to put on them. My army is pretty short range do I'm looking to make it a longer ranging weapon. Is wings worth it to put on them?

Thanks

It's probably best to run them with Deathspitters or Devourers if you want them to be shooty.

I like Scything Talons and Deathspitters. Cheap and pretty effective.

I also like Barbed Stranglers over Venom Cannons for heavy weapons... but that's a lot of personal preference.

Remember that all warriors in a squad must be equipped identically - only the Heavy Weapon guy can have a different weapon.

It seems when I use this tactic my warriors get picked off by enemy weapons

To be honest, you need more than 3 Warriors if you want them to be more effective.

Unfortunately the tyranid warrior is a rare sight on our battle fields today. Which as i have said before on this forum is a damn shame. The models are lovely and after all they are the core tyranid troop according to the fluff/lore etc.

Recently i have turned my attention back to these lovely models and built my self up 3 with Bone Swords and a Barbed Strangler. I`m also giving them Adrenal Glands. 145 pts.

I run a horde type army with a tyranid prime with l-whip and b-sword as the leading/central hq/synapse unit. I built this unit to give me another synapse in the heart of my swarm since i got my zoans a pod. I intend to use these guys as either a bodyguard for the prime or as a backfield synapse catcher.

Warriors are not an all out assault unit, leave that to the stealers, gargoyles, raveners and trygons (or shrikes for the brave) etc. back/mid-field supporting role is the best place for them as far as i can tell.

Its because of this role that i chose the guns especially the Barbed strangler, 36",s4, large blast and most importantly of all, Pinning!

Pinning stops cover from working in assault. This gun is the nid equivalent of frag grenades these days.

Venom cannons just dont cut it for me personally. Its a jack of all trades type gun and i hate it when it scatters back on you and you take a wound on a 2+ with no saves and yes this has happened to me more than once

With the bone swords that was because they could still end up as the primes bodyguards. the adrenal glands just makes them uber. This unit can also be used to counter any close up / D/S units.

rending claws again for me dont quite cut it on warriors. On raveners and stealers there priceless, not so much with the warriors.

I particularly like this set-up as both upgrades can be improved by the presence of the prime. I have yet to see a better combo for this unit and also for my army. So for me they should work a treat. I hope.

Just as i hope you can take any thing from this waffle. cheers K

Ah ok, well you should give them the same equipment then, because they can't have different weapons and remain in the same squad. I like to camp a mid-to-backfield objective in cover with them and provide synapse to support units, while taking potshots at enemies nearby. Most opponents don't even bother trying to unseat them from their fortress.

I run mine with Bonesword, Lash whip, and Toxin. Expensive, but eats just about anything in CC.

Shooting wise? Never tried it, sadly. Sorry.

I've only just started Tyranids (not even had a game with them yet) but I'm going with a squad of 5 with Deathspitters, Rending claws and Toxin. They'll be running about with a bonesword/deathspitter Prime.

On paper they seem promising.

I've tried shrikes with rending claws to limited success. That woeful 5+ armour save just doesn't cut it. Only way to get them into CC is behind a gargoyle screen for the cover save. Potential there for linking with a Parasite for quite a hard hitting unit.

My thinking on warriors at present is to maybe stuff them in a mycetic spore - maybe up to 6 of them and drop them into the backfield, working together with say devourer gants and stealers. You need to present a mass of targets to give them a chance of lasting more than 1 turn. If they get into CC then be careful of power-fists ...
