I was thinking of including something like the Tyrgon from 40k with the miners. For +10 or so points you can take a tunnel-borer-majig-thing (name still to be refined) and it allows the miners to take another tunnel-savvy unit (ironbreakers or miners) along with them. The units must emerge on the same table edge within 6" from eachother, in the same way that miners usually do.

I think it should be free personally, because every point spent on the unit following the miners is a unit less which can face the enemy for the majority of the battle, but proposed rules are always better if they cost more than you think they should initially.

Alright idea?

It's a neat idea to give some mobility to such a slow army.
It might be a balance problem having units pop up right where you need them.

How about for each unit of miners you take, you can deploy a mine shaft. 4" x 4" piece of terrain, placed on your half of the board (not deployment zone, your half of the battle field). Any unit held in reserve may enter from a mine shaft as if it were a table edge. The shaft is otherwise impassable.

So the miners can show up anywhere, and other units can take the more well marked tunnels.

I can see how it would be a balance issue, but thats why only miners and ironbreakers would be able to make use of the tunnels. This would stop you dropping off unbreakable slayers, stubborn hammerers, etc in the back field.

Also, I'm not sure if it was clear in the post but I meant only one unit can follow each unit of miners, to stop it being random units popping up right where you need them.

Perhaps they have to have the same frontage as the miners when they come on? Stops people bringing hordes through unless they bring lots of miners as well to dig a really big tunnel?

But the mineshaft idea is a good one too, I like it, I'll bring both to my gaming group.
