I know some of these are in there but they're very limited usually. What i mean by a hex-mobile is that it hexes enemy units within a certain radius with worse stats just like how some buff-mobiles boost stats of friendly models. What little i've seen of hex-mobiles is usually very limited and in the form of very slight negative modifiers with not much. I think having these around would actually be a nice change to the game. This would have a similar effect to hex spells but a little different with either a bound spell or an ability generated at random or similar. I know the coven throne that vampire counts use and i know an ogres monster or beastmen monster has similar but i expect this to be a little more effective and more units to be made with hex spells. Maybe it's just me but with a horde army i might prefer to make some awesome enemies worse rather than some crappy horde units not quite as crappy. I suppose the effect is the same anyway but some of it could be disgusting like -1 attack to a minimum of 1, -1 WS or -1 to hit, -1 BS, -1 to strength, -1 to toughness or weaker armor or similar. Kind of like how if you lose too badly vs the coven throne your guys actually attack your own guys instead of the coven throne.

I just think this would add some more flavor to the game. The effect might be the same in the end but whatever. I mean i'd rather make a unit of warriors of chaos or swordmasters lose an attack than for my clanrats to gain a couple sometimes.

I think it's great.

It would even make the map a lot more tactical because units would try and hit you without getting in the radius or would sacrifice some units to hold you up, etc. Or they'd just kill the hex.

I think a chariot mount for liche priests with additional abilities such as hex bubbles would fix a lot of the tomb kings issues.

Maybe one effect could be less ranks get to fight in combat or possibly an enemy unit has its steadfast negated or sees the enemy as numbering double its normal ranks for purposes of steadfast. I'm just throwing ideas out there. Just something we haven't seen before might be nice.

Some hex mobiles would make a lot of sense for certain armies. I don't see bretonnia or wood elves doing it. But would definately be awesome for VC's, TK's, DoC, WoC, and Skaven. Though it'd change the game completely. It would add new priorities to armies, and definately mix up the army builds on the tournament scene a ton. Now not only do you have to worry about warmachines being so far away and so dangerous, but now you have a mobile hex battery possibly in a bus unit ruining all you're melee results. Or even worse a high mobiles chariot style hex battery... I'd love to see something along those lines.

10k+ High Elf
6.5k Dwarf
7k Original Chaos Dwarf (not the crappy forge world)
6k Bretonnia
7k Wood Elf
6k Dark Elf
8k Tomb Kings
5k Beastmen
5k Lizardmen
7k Daemons of Chaos (roughly 2.5k all but Tzeentch, I find them useless in 8th other than flamers and heralds)
5.5k Empire

I wouldn't mess with Steadfast too much, though. Those kinds of ideas almost always result in too extreme of a change. Some simpler -1S, ASL, etc. is a good place to start.

I can see any of the Forces of Chaos/Unaligned with such a device, except maybe Ogres (they seem to be more about making themselves better at eating you, rather than making you easier to eat).
For the Forces of Order, obviously it'd be the other way 'round. I could see Wood Elves with something like this fo' sho'; they're all about bringing the enemy down a notch before finishing them off. I think it'd fit the Empire pretty well too, and give them a chance to emphasize that macabre, death-obsessed aspect of the culture.

@Warpsolution: Except the Ogres already have a hex-machine in the form of one of their big monsters (i forget its name...the ice one...) which gives ASL IIRC, but only to a very small radius.....

Otherwise i completely agree with you on your army choices for having hex machines, except for the Empire, they have enough toys as it is ... I would also add High Elves in to that mix, having some form of arcane device draining the enemy seems to be in their character as well...

EDIT: My spelling is terrible....

I really like the idea, though I think it would take a lot of playtesting and careful writing to get it working well without being prone to exploits.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.

It's probably gonna come down to people just outright avoiding it, shooting it down with cannons, flanking it or just running around the hex-mobile and shooting it or its unit until one or the other is dead. I figure the hex-mobile would go down fast in some situations but against warriors of chaos or such it might be decent. It's hard to say and we'll have to see.

If i ever do vampire counts (still don't want to leave my skaven) then i'll get the coven throne if possible (hex-mobile). I probably would want the mortis engine but game-wise it sounds like it'd just blow up in my own guys and that's not very cool for the owning player.
