Hello,

This is going to be my blog for my newest army project: Tyranids.

Let's start with my hive guard. I've converted 6 of them. So far I've laid down a base coat of Vallejo Cayman Green.

Stay tuned for more. Comments always appreciated!

I've done a little bit more on the hive guard conversions. You can now see a general idea of the paint scheme I'm going for. Also, the basing theme for the army can now be seen.

Comments welcome!

Those hive guard models look pretty cool, what parts are they made up from? Paint scheme looks decent so far, I'll be interested to see this develop.

@Eldercaveman: They are a warrior/ carnifex back carapace kit bash. The next step will give them a very unique look.

Looks pretty sweet, would be cool to see some step by step photos of your conversions/paint job. Stuff like that is always good to see in a blog.

Man that purple face really pops, what's the recipe? Looking awesome!

Thanks, Eldercaveman!

The recipe is (Vallejo) 50/50 mix of squid pink/extra opaque violet for the base, then purple ink, the hit the raised areas with the base mix.

Hey eveyone,

I managed to finish the first 10 model chunk of the 80 or so termegants I have. The base rims need a little cleaning and I may detail the guns a little more but they are basically done. What do you think?

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Hehe, have they been running for so long their faces have gone purple?

But they look pretty good - not sure about the purple faces but the colour does help break up the models.

Love the paint job. As awesome as those HG are, I just got off a tournement that would not have let you run them because they were modeled with stock Venom Cannons. Did you consider trimming the "claw" bits of the end of the VC? Give it less an VC and more Impaler cannon feel.

Love the conversion, but just though I would mention that as I had to re do a 3rd my list for a similar WYSIWYG issue for that event.

Hi everyone,

It's been awhile since my last update, but I will have plenty in the next 2 weeks...so stay tuned!

Anyways here are some shots of the first of three planned tervigons for the army. It's totally magnetized, too. Kit was great to paint and assemble! Comments are always welcome, thanks!

Well I must say, the purple faces makes your nids really interesting to look at!

Oh, and i love your bases and the colour applied to them. Where did you get it?

Thanks, I think the faces do make the models more interesting as well as unifying the army on the table.

Do you mean where did I get the bases? If so, I made them from plasticard and GW bits. If you mean where did I get the colors...its a light grey base washed with black shade and sepia shade from vallejo game color and a bit of Future acrylic floor wash.

Another addition to the list~

I really wanted to have a cool tyranid prime for my army, but I struggled for the longest time trying to think of a good conversion. All the conversions I saw online were really just tyranid warriors--very boring and not commanding at all. I wanted my prime to be like something halfway between a warrior and a tyrant. In the end I came up with a cool conversion where my Prime is just a little shorter than a tyrant but has far less bulk in the chest. Tall, lithe, and deadly!

I hate the flyrant "I can never land because I have skis attached to my legs permanently" so rather than waste those bits, I cut of the skis! These, along with the awesome flyrant tail, joined with a bunch of other tyranid bits to create the prime. Also, it is fully magnetized!

Please tell me what you think!

Hydra's stuff is brilliant. Nice to see someone else following in his footsteps and doing such a good job replicating his scheme! Well-done.

Some great work here AesSedai.
Your Tervigon turned out really nicely.
I've just started painting one for my Hive Fleet Enzyme.

Nice Prime conversion. You've done a good job.
The head does look a little small but there really is no perfectly sized nid head that is on offer by GW.
I ended up using the back carapace from a warrior merged with the head of a ravener...
http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/464539-Prime%20Head%20Minister.html

I was just looking at your Hive Guard, great idea for carapace and well executed.
Think this would work really well for Tyrant Guards, I do like the GW model but have always thought that they are a little short to protect such a towering beast.

Keep up the good work matey!

Please check out my Tyranid Bloggy thing!

Thanks, Reeno.

I'd like to see your prime when it's painted up. The hive guard would make great tyrant guard. You're right, the GW versions are tiny!

I love the way you've successfully carried your paint scheme across the whole army, It looks great.
I like your conversions too, I'm planning on building my own hive fleet some time soon and I'll be converting every model, as they lend themselves so well to conversions it would just be a missed opportunity not to create something unique.

Thank hk1x1--I'm excited to see it together when it's finished. The idea with the purple faces is that is ties everything together. If you like conversions, you'll have to check back for my zoanthropes. They are probably my most notable conversion in my almost totally converted force.

Here are some pics of my completed hive guard with the prime:

This is my completed (97%, needs some spot cleanup and base needs a bit o drybrush on the rock) hive tyrant. It's fully magnetized. I the kit itself was fun to build and paint, but I had to modify a representation of twin sets of devourers and then drill and magnetize wings on the back. I couldn't keep it stock--the flyrant with "ski feet", wings, and only 2 army sockets makes me mental, especially as almost everyone runs TL devourers. I am happy about the finished product. People seem to be having a lukewarm reaction to the wings-- please comment if you like!

Thanks, Overlord Thraka. I'm going to have to start keeping score on this blog. People are divided on the point of the purple faces. It seems some people love them (myself included) and a smaller, but still significant number think it looks weird.
