Its a very well constructed book and is very nice but not something I would play with.

Why's that BU ? Lack of minis or something about the army itself ?

Its some decent stuff, but far from new. I knew about this book for months now. Just an observation!

And I kind of dont like the copy pasted job with L5R

Hi kenshin, the latest revision only came out on 5th Feb. Mathias asked me to hold off from posting the news until then. I think all the L5R stuff has gone except for some of the art work.

Has all of this been playtested fully?
Whilst I have to commend you on the excellent presentation and effort that has gone in, some of these seem really really OP, its beyond funny...

It's partly the lack of mins but I myself am a shameless no good villain and I could never play something non evil. Except high elves. I think it would give me a rash

What things appear broken? The list has been tested by quite a few people since 2010, and general consensus seem to be that the list is actually kind of weak overall due to low toughness and armour save, and lack of powerful war machines like the Empire.

Seems interesting. I was always curious about some of the other human faction like with araby and ind. That said there are plenty of human factions as is. In fact we have a whole ton of elf, undead, human, dwarf (possibly if you consider chaos dwarfs) and chaos factions. I'd still like to see some of the other human factions represented though esp. with nippon considering the sheer power of the nation.

I'd still prefer that fish people race to become a faction (they mentioned something in the 8th edition rulebook on the timeline for battles and mentioned a bunch of dark elves getting owned by fish people with only one sailor left that was driven crazy by what he experienced). If the fish people army was done and was cthulu themed i would do that army. I might need time to see how it plays and the feel of the army but i think i'd totally enjoy it.

Are you referring to my fishy friends ? I've asked Mathias to consider updating them to 8th ed for me. We shall see.

Possibly. They are only hinted at in the battle timeline and i think it was something along the lines of snapping beaks as well and possible fishiness though it might be nauticans. I really don't know. I thought the high elves basically sit on what could be considered 'atlantis' considering the real world comparison and position in what would be the atlantic ocean. If that's the case it's odd that we'd have a similar faction. Then again this is more fish people than atlantians.

Also mermaid boobs !!! I might be afraid if your picture showed some more man nips though O_O.

the book looks interesting but is such a strange mix of kind-a-sorta history and lets take this word and make up something completely new that it was difficult to get through. I ended up skipping vast amounts of the fluff because of that.
why change izanagi and izanami to zanagi and zanami? why call it jinto instead of shinto? why call it the gempei war if it's not between the gen(ji) and the hei(ke)? little things like that kept pulling me out of the fantasy setting you're trying to create.
when i read through a l5r sourcebook i snicker a few times but i'm stuck in their world while reading it because they kept reality at a greater distance.

Well, that was kind of the whole point of it. Bastardizing the names is something GW has done for years, like Tilea instead of Italia, Estalia instead of Espania, and so forth, so I couldn't exactly keep the names of all the gods and religion as is. I can agree about the Gempei war though, any idea for a better word for it?
Unlike L5R, which I used as background in an earlier version of the book, I wanted Nippon's history to be closer to real-world history with more conflicts with the human clans, and less "magical spirits" everywhere. With other armies it's easier to include more non-historic elements since most factions aren't so isolated as Nippon, but in this case, most of the fighting would take place between the human clans. I did however, add quite a bit of interaction with the other factions like Cathay, WoC, Marienburg, Skaven, Hobgoblins and so on to include them more in the Warhammer world, as opposed to just being a retelling of Japan's history.
