Hi I posted about my tau a few days ago, but I was hoping to go more indepth. I am playing with my friend who uses eldar in a 750 each team tournament. I have necrons, but want to try out Tau.

So far I have bought....
1x ethereal
2x 12 firewarriors (Markerlight, PR)
1x riptide (Ion)

what do you think would be good to add? I want this to be a good army w/ eldar allies so after the tournament I can build on it.

Thanks for any and all advice!!!!

PS is the ethereal still a good choice once I get into bigger games?

It depends A LOT on your ally as well... half a list by itself makes no sense, only by knowing what your ally has you can try to focus on strengthening certain aspects. That said, what are the crisis equipped with? Do you have any drones? If yes, which ones?

In low point games spam XV8s, so play the four you own (one FoC slot each). High volume fire (dual Burst Cannons) or go FireKnife or Helios (PR/FB).

No cadreFIreblade. A riptide eats a lot of points, but looks like there's room for it. 14 is too many PFs. Fill in remaining points with FWs.

for the xv8s should i do units of 2 since you can only have 3 per

im not sure which drones i have yet, whichever ones came with pathfinders, riptide, fws, and xv8s. I do have many tho.

the eldar list will have a fire prism, wave serpent with fire dragons, and thats all I know so far

How does this look? Im new to tau so dont really know what systems go good where...so if you think I should add some let me know..i can just minimize FWs)

HQ
1x Cadre Fireblade ( wanna try him out)

Troops
8x Fire warrior (with fireblade)
7x fire warrior
7x fire warrior

Elite
1x riptide (ion accelerator / Smart missile system)
3x Crisis XV8 (rail/missile pod , Missile Pod/Plasma rifle x 2)

Fast Attack
7x Pathfinders

Heavy Support
1x Broadside Shas'ui (TL Heavy Rail Rifle, TL smart missile, seeker missile) ------> can switch to another crisis but that will leave me going in with 2 squads of 2 instead on 1 squad of 3

pts 749

Thanks for all your help

You have as small a unit as possible, so with our suits, you have an HQ, and three individuals. Then as you add suits, then have a pair and two singles. Then two pairs and a single. Then three pairs and so forth.

The type is irrelevant, as you can convert them. And I tell you that as a non-hobby guy.

Feh! You try him then!

The ethereal buffs 'em far better.

Rail? Huh? Have one single and one pair. PR/MP is not so hot. I'd go with spamming the narly AP ... FB/PR or dual PR.

Naw, keep the b-side.

If you use the ethereal right ....

Then by-passing Armor 3 is a good idea. Helios or dual PR XV8s.

Have fun. I'd love to get a PM on how things go.

I guess if you are playing lots of Necrons and CSM you will come up against a few fliers? One Hellturkey could ruin your day. I'd try and work out a way to deal with one. Perhaps just S7 missile spam... give suits/broadsides skyfire.... get a skyray perhaps?

Tell your partner to get a Farseer, with all the extra upgrades to to counter other people's psyker abilities. Then cast Doom all day long. If he had jet bikes for his troops that would be awesome too.

When does the tournament start? Isn't Eldar getting a new dex really soon?

Oh, I guess you will be facing a few annihilation barges too. A riptide could blow them up with the ion gun, but also have a good chance to smash them in CC. I would consider taking the Riptide even with the low points because it will be hard to kill for your opponents and/or be a lightning rod and take the focus away from your troops.

If you got $$$ to spend consider some Kroot with sniper rounds and hound. They can get linebreaker, perhaps challenge an objective on the other side of the board and with sniper rounds can kill high toughness targets and hurt tanks on the rear armour. Cheap pointswise too.

I thought they smelt bad on the outside

thanks for the reply. I think we are going to playtest with the eldar but if we cant figure out a way to deal with the fliers I will let him use my necron army which is pretty large and can counter csm and necrons.

I will consider kroot though! I think I need a few more broadsides and hammerheads as well.
