So while I'm waiting anxiously for the new Eldar codex I've got a small tourney coming up this weekend and thought it would be a good last hoorah for the my Eldar with their current codex. Looking at the other armies I would be facing I was quite intimidated and thought this would be a good time to field the small GK force I've been working on for hobby reasons as an ally to my Eldar. I figured that Eldar did Str 6 spam and cheap scoring units well but needed help with durable scoring units and Str 8 shooting. I've built my GK detachment to help in those areas.

HQ
Farseer- Guide, Mindwar, SS (115)

Troops
10 Guardians- Scatter Laser (95)
10 Guardians- Scatter Laser (95)
3 Jetbikes- Cannon (76)

Heavy Support
3 Warwalkers- Scatter Laser (180)
Wraith Lord- BL, EML (155)
Wraith Lord- BL, EML (155)

Fort
ADL- Quad Gun (100)

HQ
Librarian (150)

Troops
10 GKSS- 2 Psycannon, Psybolt (235)

Heavy Support
Dreadnought- 2 TLAC, Psybolt (135)

I feel pretty good about the Eldar section as that is what I'm familiar with. Might swap a guardian unit out for rangers but the core will pretty much stay the same.

On the GK side I'm less sure as I've only played against GK. I like the troops and the psyrifle dred but really just included the Librarian because of points. Not sure what the go to GK HQs are for around 150ish points but the libby seemed good on paper. If I'm missing anything important I'd be grateful if someone would let me know.

Thanks

Well you haven't missed anything or made major errors on your GK detachment. My suggestion to you about your HQ dilemma would be this. If you do not have a plan for the use of stock GK Psyker spells, then the Librarian isn't of value to you. You would be much better off with Coteaz (50 points less, Psyker level 2) and swapping his two spells for Divination (hello Prescience / other on Psycannon squad) or an Ordo Malleaus Inquisitor (Terminator Armour, Psycannon, Level 1 Psyker swap Divination 40 points less with Prescience reroll).

The one gripe I have about this plan however is that the major advantage of Eldar prior to the new Codex drop is still Runes of Warding, which is the best anti-Psyker upgrade in the game. Problematically this conflicts with Psykers of your allied detachment, making this set up a hard sell as you either self depreciate or choose to avoid the best upgrade in the Codex.

Hope that helps, good luck to you.

Honestly the exclusion of Runes of Warding on the Farseer is my least favorite part of the list as well but I just can't see a way to make the runes work with GK allies. I thought about taking a more combat oriented GK HQ but there will be situations where I need hammer hand, warp quake, or fortitude so I opted to drop the runes even though it hurt me a little inside.

The Twilight Zone

It really pains me to see a farseer without runes, even with GK allies. The GK do provide a ton of mid ranged heavy fire, which is nice in the list. I doubt you are going to need fortitude or hammerhand all that much. The potential defense far outweighs negating a shaken or stunned or S5 in CC. Losing the force weapons is a bit of a pain, but if it comes to that your farseer might have already bought the farm.

I take it your swapping the seer powers for BRB powers?

If you went with a cheap inquisitor with termi armor and a psycannon you could spend points on runes and some other toys. Or coteaz, and toys.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

The GKSS need a transport. Otherwise, a Helldrake can become a serious threat.
