Hi Dakka,

I'm currently running another project log for all of my personal models (mostly Catachan, Eldar, Tyranids, and terrain) but don't want to mix my commission projects in. This is where I'll post all commission projects from now on to keep things organized. I'll periodically pop in and post an old project, since I've been doing commission painting for about 7 years now on and off.

First up, a Celestial Lions Dreadnought. Sculpted a lion face on the center of a Forge World Red Scorpions Venerable Dreadnought and removed all the scorpion iconography.

Color test; client chose orange.

Converted Commander from a Raven Guard character.

Should have the finished Dread soon. Next up, Genestealer Cult.

Thanks guys! The Dread is based and almost finished now, should have an update soon.

Some of you may have seen my past Genestealer Cult commission. If not, here's some photos:

Cultist PDF (Termagants with Fleshborers)

Cultist Gangers (Termagants with Devourers)

Genestealer Hybrids (Ymgarl Genestealers)

Genestealer Magi (Zoanthropes)

Genestealer Patriarch (Tyranid Prime)

Cult Limousines (Tervigons)

There's also a few more I can post if people want. But for the time being, here's one of the new models. It's going to be a flying Hive Tyrant with quad Devourers.

Thanks! It'll be getting quite a few more details before any paint, but so far the client is happy too.

My family's had my grandfather's old tool chest for a while now, and since I'm sorting all the tools out in the basement I figured I'd empty it, clean it, do some minor repairs, and put it to good use. I still need to do some cleaning up and staining on the outside, but say hello to my new hobby tool chest!

As for the commission business, here's some more old Cult models:

Lictor (Lictor)

Genestealer (Genestealer)

Rogue Psyker (Doom of Malan'Tai)

Construction Power Loader (Trygon)

And the new WIP, the second flying Hive Tyrant. Like the other speeder it has four guns to represent two twin-linked Devourers. This one has no psyker, so the close combat attacks come from cultists with power fists and axes.

And the Dread is pretty much done, barring some minor tidying up. Pictures soon.

Slight change of plans - the speeder with the armed passengers is staying as a dual-devourer Hive Tyrant with wings, but the one with the big turbines is going to be a Crone or Harpy.

Flying Tyrant:

Crone or Harpy (to be determined):

And more past models...

Looted PDF Tank (Tyannofex):

Looted PDF Tank with flame cannon (Tyrannofex):

Objectives - PDF Sergeant, Genestealer Feeding Altar, and Cult Icon (rotates to act as a turn counter):

More soon!

CRY. You beat me to the punch man. I started working on a catachan genestealer cult years ago but bailed on it due to tendonitis. Now that i see yours, theres simply no point to pick it up again. Youve just got a great creative mind. One day, my kroot will have to battle your jungle men on that fantastic board.

Thanks bebop! I'm totally down to host a game someday - my jungle board is in my cabin an hour north of NYC, but my brother still lives there and has a sweet cityfight getup. Would be awesome if you could get a Kroot Kill Team on the jungle board, though.

Here's the finished Celestial Lions Dreadnought. Was going for a 'lion savannah' look with the tan grass and bloody carcass. This will be a basing theme throughout the army.

And here's the Tallarn Command Squad standard bearer. I'm really pissed at the blue wash on the white... as it dried it kept contracting, leaving white in the recesses. Should have just invested in Asurmen Blue or highlighted up from Ice Blue.

Highlights aren't as stark in real life, had to adjust the photo to get the colors right. Looks much better on the tabletop. EDIT: Re-took the photo, looks better now.

Client read the rules and settled on a Crone. Simple additions - a flamer on the front and a small missile rack. There were 5 missiles and the Crone carries 4, so I dremeled out the middle one and will add a targeting lens. Figure the S8 vector strike is a focused-beam strafing run from the nose-mounted flame weapon. Makes more sense than modeling a big blade on!

Now I can go about finalizing everything. Pinning, greenstuff, details, etc.

Finally done with the conversions and they're primed.

Hive Crone. The four missiles on the back are the tentaclids, the heavy flamer is the drool cannon, and the vector strike is represented by dive-bombing the foe with the flamer in a tight beam, to represent the S8 attack. Bonus points for identifying the wreckage on the base.

Flying Hive Tyrant. The four guns represent four Devourers, the Genestealer Magus represents the psychic powers, and the cultists with powerfists and axes represent the close-combat attacks.

Off to start painting them!

EDIT: Here's the last of the past Cult models for the client.

Patriarch on Throne (Swarmlord):

Ogryn Hybrids (Tyrant Guard):

Cult flyers are almost done. Terrible picture - didn't realize how bad until it was off my phone. Took it mostly to show the client progress. I'll have much better photos when they're finished.

Also started on a looted Riptide. Still needs loads of details, and I want some stompier feet for sure, but it's a start!

Most parts are pinned, so even the spindly-looking attachments should be relatively sturdy. I'll also use greenstuff to sculpt sockets where the balls are just sitting at the moment. The character also has two missile drones. I can try to make Orky drones, but think missile-launcher grots with jetpacks would be so much better! I've asked the client if he has any spare grots.

Here's some more, all still work in progress.

Looted Wraithknight with two missile drones (piloted by grots). Still needs some greenstuffing and more bits.

Commander Farsight counts-as. Still needs a lot of work. The main part is from a Deffkopta, completely chopped up, with Killa Kan legs. The pilot will have a restraining harness and some additional armor soon, amongst other things.

Payment from this commission will help me towards affording an Imperial Knight.

Great work man, one of my favorite plogs on dakka...the verdekel too...

Sounds good to me.

But really, thank you for the compliments. And your paintjobs absolutely blow mine out of the water! I wish you'd continue with your Catachan and Cult, but at least your Kroot are equally awesome.

More progress on the counts-as Farsight Ork. Amazing what a few scraps of armor can do! From the last post, to:

Gotta say Orks rule super hard. Tons of fun to convert.

Everything still WIP, but more progress on a looted "Crisis Suit":

And the original "Farsight" was demoted to another Crisis Boy. THIS is a proper Warboss Farsight!

Should mostly just be decorating with more bitz and filling some gaps, then this commission is done!

I'm really happy with all of them. The Deffkoptas, with almost everything cut away around the pilots, made excellent foundations for the Crisis Suits.

Been a long while - work's keeping me busy, and my little free time is spent on person models. But I agreed to do a bit for one guy I've been working with a long time.

A Cadian into a Tallarn, and Catachan Harker into a Mordian Harker.

I think they turned out pretty darn well. Now to finish up that Squat unit for my own army, finally. Life has really been getting in the way of painting these past few weeks.

Started on a Squiggoth for my brother's Orks as a birthday gift. Started out life as a toy elephant. I chopped it up and added some Ork bits.

Re-posed the front leg to make it more dynamic and added some clay to fill the major gaps. The clay was intended to be cut and sanded down, which is why it looks chunky and goofy. I only had Catachan handy to test an "embarked" unit.

Start on sculpting the head. Obviously needs teeth, nostrils, skin detail, and tusks. It's going to get nice curving tusks - the chunky ones above looked pretty bad.

Then gums...

Then the bare framework of tusks...

And here's a real quick test photoshop, just to get an idea of how it's going to look:

The Ogryn Hybrids are a neat idea. That's a pretty terrifying idea, to be honest, lol.

Made more progress on my brother's Squiggoth. It needs some smoothing out, some pebbly skin texture added with liquid greenstuff, some more ornaments and trophies, etc. but I'm real happy with how it's coming along. Used a super old retro Ork with a modern head to make Kaptin Squig up on top.

Hope to have completed photos soon, and my brother's painted product shortly after.
