I recently started work on some buildings for the France campaign. This is my first attempt at doing buildings so feedback and tips are appreciated.

Here is the first attempt. I used foam core board for the basic structure and some styrene for the door and framing.

For the roof I used thin card stock and cut it into strips.I then marked out the shingles and cut the strip about half way through to give the shingles definition.

For the exterior I applied a coat of light weight spackling to give it a stucco look.

I still need to sand down some of the areas that went on too thick, add trim and decide how I want to do the stone on the chimney. I'm thinking either a coating of carved green stuff or using brick pattern styrene if I can find someone locally who sells it.

Feed back and tips are appreciated.

Hey bro!
Next time your out, see if you can get a roll of that corrugated ribbon border that teachers use on big displays at school.
Cut that into strips to make Spanish tile!!
Give it a shot, you'll dig it!!

Nice. I might have to try that. Plastruct also make a good looking shingle and tile roof sheeting. It isn't very expensive. $6-7 US. I used some of their other sheeting to do tile floors on the lower level and hardwood floors on the upper on the building. I have the walls cut out for the second one and I just need to start assembling it.

Here is the second attempt. This time a store front. This is just the roughed in shape and still needs detailed.

The "stucco" has been applied. Once it dries it will get a good sanding and then it will just need the trim put on.

They will be cast up in resin so attaching a base really will not work with them.

I finally found the styrene I needed. Shingles and brick work for the chimney have been added. I then applied the ridge cap over the peaks of the roof line.

Looking good to me. I'm doing something much the same in 28mm for pathfinder so it is interesting to see how you are going about it.

Update:

I scrapped the original roof design and went with this instead. The chimney has also been wrapped in brick.

I threw together this little storage building as an add on as well.

The row house with trim added. I still need to do the chimney and some detailing.

Group photo before the roof swap.

I think I might try a church next.

I started roughing out the shape of the church today. I'll try to get up some photos later once it dries and can be moved.

@SilverMK2- Thanks! I am really looking forward to getting these cast and a few painted up. They are a long way from being ready to send out for casting though.

As promised here is the start of the church. This is just the basic shape. I ran out of materials before I could finish so I need to take a trip to the hobby store to restock. When it is done it will have the exterior wrapped in stone work. The bell tower will also have a lot of extra details as well. Anyone out there know of a place that sells 1/100 scale columns at a reasonable price? I found one place but it is crazy expensive.

Having a hard time finding the styrene I need but here it is under roof any way.

I was going to do the roof with strip styrene spaced over styrene sheeting. Then I stumbled across this rubberized, anti-friction liner. I thought it worked pretty well to achieve the same effect. Now if I can just find a material I like for the stone on the walls.

Exterior texture is very nice but how did you do it?

Believe it or not it is paper. I had planned on using styrene sheeting with the stone etched into it. None of my local hobby shops had it. I didn't feel like waiting so I hit Michaels and Hobby Lobby looking for a substitute. In the scrapbooking area I found this textured paper. I thought it turned out pretty well and is about 1/10 of the cost of the styrene. It only came in this reflective gold finish but since I am casting it in resin it doesn't make any difference.

Got the buttresses finished today. I will be casting them separately so it can be built with or without. These four buildings are getting so close to being done. I can't wait. I want to see them cast in resin and painted up.

Shipping out for mold making and production in the morning. Hopefully I'll have the final product in a week or two.

Hit a bit of a snag. My mold maker is having trouble with these and doesn't think he will be able to make the molds for me. Back to square one. **SIGH**

I have the masters back in my hands and I have a request for a quote on molds and casting from a different company. Hopefully the project will go through yet. Keeping my fingers crossed.
