We have just launched our new Kickstarter The Skyway Project. It is a modular terrain system designed to pull the game more to the center of the board instead of the edges. This forces players to think more tactically instead of just marching forward. Being modular you can set them in in different combinations so you are not always playing with the same table design.

Take a look.

Nice, but from what I can see at this point, it looks like a lot of money for not a lot of terrain?

Sorry, but... what?

How does it do that, and what was the problem in the first place?

Looks nice, for the most part. The mis-aligned floor detailing where the corner pieces attach is a little off-putting, and it does seem a little expensive for what it is. The lack of detailing on some pieces looks a little odd as well... particularly the staircases and the sides of the lifts.

I like the clear mesh pieces on the lifts, though.

Nice looking terrain, and would be a lot of fun to use for Infinity and the like. But, yeah, thats a little pricey compared to a lot of the laser-cut stuff that is coming out right now. Looks a bit "fiddly" too, like those thin archways are just waiting to snap.

The $20 scatter terrain is a nice deal though. Was looking for streetlights.

Damnit, looked really great, but now that you mentioned that it's ALL I can see! At least that should be easily fixable, just adjust the CAD files a bit so the lines match before shipping em out.

Pretty sure he was talking about the stairs don't have any engraved detail. The size is fine, there's a certain amount of practicality to the huge steps. Smaller steps look better, but are impossible to place minatures on without small blocks/ramps/dice to prop the bases on.

He's also right about the price. This type of setup is EXACTLY what i want in a sci-fi skirmish gametable, but it's not even a complete table, really. You still need the base board, and you'll still need buildings and streets for the lower levels as well as scatter terrain. Altogether it's just a bit too harsh on the pocketbook.

But if you got the money, that is going to look PHENOMINAL! I'm glad this kind of stuff is around, just in case a long lost rich uncle passes away or I win that lottery jackpot.

I'm confused about what each level is getting.

Under "Checkpoint Alpha", it states "1 - 8 Walkway Sections"

Are we getting one or eight walkway sections?

If one, then why is it pluralized and what does the "8" mean?

If eight, why is there only one in the image and what does the "1" mean?

This 1-8 and other numberings is repeated throughout, and somewhat confusing.

I like the abstraction of the stairs which allows for easy placement of models but it is more straight edge, same thickness MDF...

I believe it's one walkway, 8 inches long. On the right hand side where the pledges are it says 8" walkway looks like they fogot the " on the jpegs?

Thanks for the comments. The stairs were specifically designed to accommodate larger bases. We have tried making smaller stairs for our wild west sets and the biggest issue was with model placement. It wasn't so bad on those sets due to the majority of 25mm based models. With scifi you have to account for 25-60mm bases so you are allot more limited. The sizes ans spacing will fit large models with no tipping issues. This way to don't have to proxy models or markers on stairs. With more games using TLOS this is a big improvement.

All the panel lines raster engraved instead of line cut. This gives more options for textures and allows for a great range of freedom with line thicknesses. The trade off with this is they take longer to cut so that is part of the price increase.

Kits at the $100 level is designed to add to your existing terrain. At the $150 and above ranges you start getting into full 4x4' and 4x6' tables.

The kits are also pretty durable even with the thin hoops. The prototypes have survived several trips to events like Adepticon and weekly trips to game stores for testing without failures. But for those that were concerned with durability we have doubled the thickness of them in the final design. This will make them 1/4" thick instead of the 1/8" in the picture.

Right now the $105 pledge gets you 4 of them or looks like you can get one with $28 worth of addons to a lesser pledge.

Just posed a preview of the next optional kit - ISO Containers

There is a special design of this that Kickstarter backers will receive and a standard one that is on the regular website.

7 Days to go. 70+ backers and some great package deals inbound. Yes, the last 7 days are finally here and I figured what better way to make them stand out than to add some special packages for those of you sitting on the fence. We will be releasing new packages over the next few days. The packages are like mini pledge levels. Each package can be added to any pledge level or if that is all you want then just select it in your final pledge survey. We will take care of it from there.

The first package deals are for ISO containers. You can never have too many of these especially if you are playing any modern or future scifi game like Infinity. The containers are normally sold in packs of 2 for $25 but as an exclusive for the Kickstarter we are bundling them in packs of 6 with lander feet and mounting adapters for using them in place of apartment modules and a mega pack of 9 stand alone iso containers. In the case of the 6 pack you are essentially getting that third set for $5. The mega pack is even better. Trading in the lander feet gets you 3 additional containers and saves you $2 in the process.

Things are really beginning to ramp up as we get to the final countdown on the Skyway Project Kickstarter. The number of kits that have been inspired by backers is huge and the feedback has been excellent. With only 5 days left to go we are working overtime to get as many in as we can before it is all over on April 19th. Here is a little background on a set pulled directly from a backer’s question.

We build a set called The Mews at Windsor Heights a while ago. It’s modular apartments were the basis for the design in the Skyway Project. The concept was cheap vertical housing perfect for a crowed city. The set was pretty successful. If you haven’t seen it take a look here - http://bit.ly/1kotKRJ .

With the launch of the Skyway Project we wanted to tie the sets together a little more. To do this we had to make some modifications to the kit and ended up redesigning the set. It will be added to the Kickstarter shortly as an add-on kit. I just need to get the final pictures completed

This time around the set get made taller to match the walkway decking. It also gets a specialty elevator that can be attached to either side of the tower and allows access to all 4 levels. The elevator will include acrylic parts that mirror the current elevator further bring all the parts together.

TMAWH 2nd Edition.

Next up stretch goals and adding them to your pledge.

We are adding all the completed stretch goals to the add-on section today. A few people have asked for them and we are delivering. The paint stands, textured bases, furniture sets and tram cars will all be available. Most of the sets are in the photobooth now so they will be up soon.

Finally if you missed it we just recorded the episode 60 of The Screaming Heretic and spoke a little about the project and updates on there. Give it a listen if you haven’t already. Also remember the show has a disclaimer for a reason so don’t say you were not warned. http://screamingheretic.com/2014/04/episode-60-adepticon-2014/

Well I have to go and get some more stuff in the booth for pictures. Have a good one and get those pledges in.

Burn In Designs is charging forward into the final 48 hours of the Skyway Project Kickstarter. They are releasing the last of their stretch goals as general kits for everyone. The latest are designed specifically for painters with special packages of model holders and paint trays.

If you work on projects or paint on the go it is nice to be able to group just the colors you are using with a project instead of having to pull out all the paints each. Burn In Designs is releasing a smaller version of their paint trays to make things easier and take some of the hassle out of painting. The trays are about 5×8 so they take up a minimal mount of space. They stack together to keep with the minimalist idea of space saving. The trays are designed to fit GW or dropper style paints and in the combo you get to chose which trays you want to meet your painting needs.

In keeping with this theme Burn In Designs is also adding model holder kits. These holders are designed to give a solid and stable platform for holding minis during painting. The combo includes a rack to keep minis from tipping while they dry. Grouped in set of 5 models per rack and 3 rack in the set this should cover most unit sizes.

Both sets are their own pledge level to make it easy for backers to select just the sets you want. Hurry up though the Kickstarter ends on April 19th at 3:00pm CST.

Final 6 hours of the Skyway Project Kickstarter

Today is the day we have been waiting for. The Skyway Project Kickstarter is coming to an end. We have one last kit to squeeze in before it all is all over. The tram set.

I had wanted to do a simple subway style system for the set but the tight turns made it difficult to fit larger cars into the set. I have plans for wider turns but ran out of testing time to get them in. To keep the tram system in the set with the current parts I made the cars smaller and it worked out perfectly. Now the cars all fit and give allot more cover options that didn’t exist before.

So this is it. Time to get those last second pledges in. We have a few hours left and plenty of options at all levels.
