So I am working towards 1000 points to start playing at my local store. I have a friend who has a night goblin list I will be going against I know! But I want to know if there is a better way to go about starting my dwarfs with using long beards as my core, other then that I'm open to any suggestions on what to build towards.

Thane-143
Rune of warding lvl 3
Rune of stone
Rune of iron
Shield

Bsb-96
Great wep

20 long beards-280
Shields
Musician
Banner

20-hammerers-310
Full command

Organ Cannon-170
Rune of forging
Rune of accuracy

Sorry can't disclose.....infiltrating

I would definitely drop the thane for a runesmith with the fiery ring and a spell breaker rune, a unit killer lands and it's trouble with only 2 blocks

Give the bsb grungi and a shield ( you don't want your bsb eating it )

Organ gun has really not been performing upto to anything to write home about, cannon all the way ( kills all the things your army needs gone)

Besides that I'm a quareller with gw kinda guy for core

My Armies :
VC
Warriors of Chaos
Dark Elves

I have been talking to some people and I will definitely be running the rune smith idea for sure, but really take a single cannon over a organ gun??? If you wouldn't mind maybe giving me some ideas as to your thoughts on that. I get that it could wreck havoc on monsters, but at 1000 points I don't think the people I am playing against will have many.

After talking to some people, I am taking a new approach for this 1k list. I think there are things like a bab I can get away with in this low points, and those extra points also leaves me with room for more models.... At any rate here it is!

Thane + great weapon + Master Rune of Gromil 101

21 Longbeards + shields + full command (303)

24 Hammerers + musician + standard (356)

1 Gyrocopter (80)

1 Organ Gun + Rune of Forging + Rune of Accuracy (150)

australia

you'll be facing a lot of enemy models and without any magic defense, one foot of gork/mork will leave you severely outnumbered.
Gyrocopter and organ gun is the way to go though, i think.

AOS
- Kharadron Overlords
- Fyreslayers
- Dispossessed
- Death
- Bloodbound

You have a list that'll expand to 2K+ very nicely, but I think you'll struggle at 1K. A gunline parked outta organ gun range can shoot down the gyro and then pick you apart at leisure. Goblins have the war machines to field such a list.

A cannon would help kill enemy war machines, and is much harder to outrange. Otherwise, i'd drop a few bodies and get vanguard banners on your units.

I was thinking dropping some hammerers to get the van. Banner. Other then that I have already experience the getting picked apart jn my first game xD. But I could have played differently. Also that us my main goal is to expand so!

A few things:

- the Runesmith is nice, but...meh. Taking one Dispel Scroll means you'll stop one spell. Nice, but not an auto-include at this point level. You've got your natural +2 to dispel. That should be enough to weather the storm.
I think a Thane, with his improved fighting ability and Ld10, is a viable choice.

- Hammerers don't need a champion, so that's 10pts you could spend on something else.

- The fully loaded Organ Gun is a lot of points at this level. A Cannon will do less damage, but be more versatile and cheaper. A Grudge Thrower will do less damage than that, and be even more versatile and even cheaper; you could even do two basic Grudge Throwers and save 10pts.

Well you may have sold me on two grudge throwers do to the cool model haha! But besides that, they seem like they would be kind of unreliable, also just running one cannon instead of am organ hasn't really worked well ing few games experience. But the grudge throwers could be interesting. Any more thoughts/ideas on using two grudge throwers? As well as the 20-30 extra points I'll have from cutting champions and what not.

Maybe could look something like this..... Might solve my ability to reach out and touch the enemy too... Now that I think about it.

Thane + great weapon + Master Rune of Gromil+rune of iron 121

20 Longbeards + shields + musician banner (280)

24 Hammerers + musician + standard (356)

1 Gyrocopter (80)

2 Grudge Throwers (160)

Grudge Throwers have, at worst, a 1 in 6 chance of landing exactly where you want them to. But scattering 2-4" will still hit some models. And there's always the chance that they scatter onto other units.
Then there's the center hole threatening Monsters, and indirect fire, and an awesome range.
My point is this: there will be times when your Organ Gun won't have anything to shoot at. When it does, it'll probably put a big dent in it. Cannons will have more chances to shoot, but, on the whole, do less damage. And Grudge Throwers have the most chances of all.

In the above list, you could drop two Hammerers to put the Rune of Accuracy on one of the 'Throwers, if you wanted. Then you'd have 6pts left over for a Rune of Burning or the Furnace, I suppose.

I just realized something with the list, arnt I only allowed 50% allowance for special units? In which case I can't run the hanmerers copter and two grudge throwers :/

Assuming I am right about the 50 percent allowance on special units... Here is a stab at it, not too different but you will see what I mean.

Thane + great weapon + Master Rune of Gromil+rune of iron (121)

Runesmith + shield + rune of stone + rune of spellbreaking (93)

20 Longbeards + shields + musician + banner (280)

20 Hammerers + musician + standard (300)

Gyrocopter (80)

Cannon (120)

Heh. totally missed that. Yeah, you're capped at 50% for Specials.

In the second list, I'd consider dropping the Runesmith. At 1000pts, MR1 and a Dispel Scroll are nice, but not necessary. And 93 points could go a long way toward bulking out that Longbeard unit, and maybe getting them a Runic Standard.

Okay so gotta scratch that idea xD hahah. So taking into mind about the runesmith, and cutting him to get some more bodies. This is what I came up with. Also gives me a little more range.

Thane + great weapon + Master Rune of Gromil (101)

18 Longbeards + shields + musician + banner (254)

19 Hammerers + musician + standard (286)

Cannon (120)

Gyrocopter (80)

10 iron drakes (150)

What about something like this:

Runesmith - Hand Weapon, Shield, Rune of Spellbreaking (88)

Thane BSB - w/Master Rune of Gromril (120)

Warriors - (19 man) w/Hand Weapons, Shields, and Full Command (201)

Quarrellers - (12 man) w/Shields (156)

Hammerers (19 man) w/Standard & Musician (286)

Cannon w/Rune of Forging (145)

Total 996

Basically, you drop the Longbeards for Warriors and pick up the Quarrellers. You have the points if you want to give your BSB a Great Weapon. Stick one character in each of your block units and there you go.
