So since the new year, it seems that we have been having a lot more rumors based on guesses than rumors that are based on any real facts. Harry and Hastings haven't posted in a long time, 40k radio seems to be the new king but even they haven't spoken up much in the last three months or so. The few rumors that did get looked more like accurate guesses to me than from a poster who really knew what was really going on. The IG rumors were quite different to what we actually got. Rumors said that Catchans were going to be completely out and The new Tempists book was a complete surprise. So where are all the squealers? All the whistle blowers? last year we got news months in advance, this year we are hardly getting two weeks. What I am trying to say here is rumors that are more than a month or so out are usually way off base now. Where are our far future seers?

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

So you think that the rumor tracking thread by petre and just general people whining because things may not be 100% accurate have sent the rumor leakers to the mattresses?

It's pRetre. If a rumor monger can't handle being tracked, they are in the wrong business. Even before I started, people kept track of who was full of gak and who wasn't. Now we just have an established way to do it.

And some of the worst offenders of made up gak are still going.

I think what you are seeing is the refinement of GW's rumor policy shutting people down. I also think there's been some disinformation put out to catch out leaks.

I agree with pRetre I really don't think the one generating the rumors care for the most part what people on the internets say about them. I know I really don't care what people on the internet say about me. Maybe white dwarf going weekly instead of monthly has changed the way rumors leak. Before WD changed we used to pretty much know everything about the release of an army the month before that WD actually became available to buy. Now that it has become weekly we only know about a week ahead of time. Perhaps the leaks that were for things farther away have indeed been plugged and now we are just sol and at the mercy of GW's weekly advertising leaflet.

Real rumours have become rarer because of GW's fanatic witch hunt for leaks. Noone wants to risk his job just to tell you that a crappy Imperial taurox is coming. Most leaks are just by people getting the WD a few days early.

This has been cloaked a bit by the flood of false rumours posted on faeit212, a website that posts almost every rumour (among them also true rumours to be fair). Real rumours are still rare.

Due to speed of release and the weekly WD, rumors have less worth as it is.

Since leaks are a fire-worthy thing for GW, leaks are only good from those on the outside who happen to see future product which is hit or miss.

So, rumors really do not have a place in my decisions since they will be based on the actual product when released.

They don't care for their audience enough to make it relevant, anymore.

The game has devolved to almost the point of non-playability. Now that it has pretty much came to the point that they are only into the sell the stuff, fast. They have no need for letting people know what is coming next. Then there is the little matter of them cutting loose ties to get the beast ready for the slaughter.

I saw the newish stuff in the L??G??S?? yesterday, those prices... those prices....

Some things are better left unknown.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

There is also less people gainfully employed by GW to promote those kinds of rumors. Heh Heh Heh.

It's GW's fault. They have that juvenile and non-sensical Stasi-esque secrecy policy. No other company in the world that sells recreational products acts like this. It's hilarious that Lockheed Martin is actually less secretive about their future products then a miniature wargaming company.

You mean...Their policies are actually working? Sounds like GW is really bummed that their policies are working. </sarcasm>

Harriticus, Lockheed is secretive about what it needs to be secretive about, you get thrown in jail for leaking their secrets. The things they let are to make sure they hit the news and keep in the public eye(AKA: PR). Bad comparison, as they are entirely different models and customer bases.

I work in the Nuclear industry and some of the stuff I have heard from a friend who works in GW, about walking through no-access areas and escorted access in Nottingham, seems like it is actually more tightly controlled - instant disciplinary/firing in those cases. The level of self-importance is pretty funny.

Oh... speaking of rumor control....

I read somewhere (Faeit?) that Epic was coming back as a 10mm release. Am I too much of a conspiricy theorist to think that the source of the rumor was the evil empire and was generated just to divert attention from Hawk wargames?

Well these are the guy who supposedly went into a meeting with Walmart and somehow made the Walmart guys laugh their way out.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Mate, I am certainly no hater, Ive been accused of the opposite many more times than the former by the tiny minorty of ridiculous haters that dwell on the internet, but dont you think "ungrateful" is a little.. I dunno, hyperbolic? People arent THAT bad, because you surely dont and shouldnt "thank" a company for selling you things right?

I mean, I fething love the Imperial Knight model, but I'm not "grateful" that they sold me it for a more than ample price! Same as I'm not grateful for Samsung selling me an S3, or Nike for selling me some good running shoes. There is a big market, and we make our choices, do you honestly think that consumers should thank the people that sell them things for their hard earned cash?

I bought Windows 7 retail, I'm certainly not going to thank Bill Gates for the privilege, the bastard has way more gak than I do!

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

I'm fine with Rumor Mongers. However, if they have a blog where they sell ad space, be mindful of the fact that they post gak to drive up clicks.

That's it.

I've stopped clicking on links to blogs that people post here for that reason.

People keep saying that... but it's bs.

How much money do you think there is in online ads for a niche like wargaming? Faeit will be making... what? A few hundred bucks a month? Hardly worth it for churning out sometimes dozends of posts a day. BolS might make a few thousand dollars, but divide that again between the ... dunno ... 15 or so writers they have, and it's not much either.

There is no way in hell a wargaming blog can make money with click-ads. If you have a subscription-programme for premium content (MiniWarGaming, Beasts of War), perhaps, but if you think Faeit or BoLS, for all their faults, are in it "to get rich", you're sorely mistaken.

If you want to make money with AdSense, you'd start a blog about Lady Gaga or Penis Enlargement or some other topic that actually gets traffic.

Read my post. Did I say anything about "Getting rich?" No, I didn't.

It's not about getting rich. It's about making even 1 cent by posting drivel.

It's my crusade, and I'll pursue it how I wish!

Making one cent from a rumour, or making a rumour because you can earn one cent are two different things.

And if you make derogatory allegations without evidence, you're something far worse than just a liar.

It's also about making yourself into an internet celebrity. I don't believe Natfka makes money, but he's definitely creating a brand for himself through posting crap.

The same thing happened with Ghost21. He got to be the darling of Warseer for quite sometime until he was exposed. Is Natfka intentionally doing it like G21? No, but it's the same thing.
