I've really been eyeing death korps for awhile now, now that tempestus are an army I've decided I'd like to get into Krieg. I'm wondering if they have their own army list? or is it just the gaurd codex?

They have two from forgeworld. One from the siege of vraks and another from IA12. Both use older guard dex rules so expect a FAQ soon.

You can also use the normal Guard codex. I do anyway.

The FW lists seem more fluffy and in line with the whole DKoK thing. Too bad that the modells are so damn expensive. DKoK should be kind of a horde army, instead one naturally tries to get more tanks to fill up points.

I'd say that overall, the DKoK is a juggernaut army.

Slow to move, perhaps a bit ponderous to react, but it's nigh unstoppable if it can get the momentum going and hits really, really hard.

Agreed, but fluffwise, it should feature a lot of infantry. As in thousands over thousands. Considering FW prices, I bet the usual list looks more like 30 dudes + 7 tanks.

Oh yes a lot of people just buy artillery carriages and tanks and go for grenediers to save on models.

Which is a shame because Krieg gets a superior version of the re-enter from reserves if wiped ability that the Endless Swarm and Skyblight Tyranid formations get (automatic success rather than on a 4+) which I would think is a pretty big hint to try a blob some day.

I would be using some of these models for krieg because they aren't so expensive:

But the whole point of the krieg army is the fantastic collection of FW models.

Lots of people do. I've seen them in person, as they've been around a while, and they're OK.

But DKoK are [INSERT LARGE NUMBER]% better in detail, looks, and what-have-you.

To each their own, though!

I emailed FW about the Krieg stuff in relation to the new book and can confirm this:
Hi there.

Our rules team will be reviewing the effect of the Astra Militarum Codex on our self contained Imperial Guard based army lists such as the Armoured Battle Group and the Elysians. Once this review is complete they will make the necessary changes (if any) that are needed in an errata.

So are krieg better as infantry or artillery armies? I'm looking at the 6th edition PDF they released and can't really tell(I don't have the actual gaurd book either)

Their infantry are actually generally very expensive for what you pay for them (e.g. Infantry Squads in platoons cost as much as the Hydra does now and can't take heavy weapons). Their strength is the artillery units which put out very good firepower at relatively low cost and are very resilient.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

I definitely recommend using the free Siege Regiment Army List if you want to save money, on the other hand it's tactical options are more limited because the only transport options aren't very good. If you enjoy castling up with a gunline, it's perfect. The more expensive infantry squads work well for holding the line, and you save points on not needing Commissars because all units ignore 25% casualty morale tests. Plus everything has Krak grenades as standard, never underestimate Krak grenades. The strongest part of the Siege Regiment army list is the cheap artillery. The Deathriders are like roughriders, except competent and actually make their points back. If you want the best of both worlds, ally a DKoK army list to the Astra Militarum.

Personally, I cry a little inside every time I see DKoK models using the standard IG codex. All those lovely unique models going to waste, sucking the uniqueness right out of the army and turning something rare into another cookie-cutter list with prettier plastic.

If you use the siege regiment list then the two best and unique ways to run it are artillery spam and delivering scoring engineer troops with elite hades drill units' holes. Nobody can bring artillery like the siege regiment.

The assault brigade is great for running grenadiers in storm chimera and for respawning platoons. If you want to go with an infantry heavy army without artillery carriages this is the way to go.

You can always use the AM army list to run your DKoK. It actually works pretty well now that there are more morale fixes to keep your guys able to move forward.

It is also a bit of a misconception that DKoK just throw infantry at enemies. They will but only if that has the best chances to gain the objective. If the cost in lives (ie however much a life is in material value...about a lasgun in value?) is greater than the cost in materials they will happily shell the location, send in an armoured fist, or drill into the position and let the grenadiers work. There is a reason that all these army lists exist.
