Good afternoon DakkaDakka,

I used to play a lot of 5th edition but I've only played one game of 6th edition which was at 500 points. I took all infantry and got wiped out by something like tau broadsides with missiles that ignored cover which was wild. Anyway, I have read the new codex and some of what people have been saying about it and put together this list using models that I have or could easily convert. For example, I currently have two Leman Russ tanks with battle cannons and lascannons and could easily convert the battle cannon into a vanquisher cannon. I wouldn't mind converting a punisher cannon or any other variant. The idea with this list is that the blob squad sits on a back objective while the veterans are ready to deal with any tough targets, and the company command squad sits in the middle of the force with the enginseer ready to give orders and grant PotMS to the ordnance russ so he can fire his lascannon. I'm going to be honest, I haven't wrapped my head around all the psychic powers and psykers but I keep reading that the three primaris psykers are useful so I included them for the time being. I have 55 points left, maybe I should include an aegis defense line? Oh, btw I read this:

"Vehicle upgrade Camo Netting now makes any cover save +1 better and best of all does NOT go away once the vehicle moves! Combined with a Tank Commander's 'Strike & Shroud!' order that allows a unit to fire it's weapons and then trigger smoke launchers a Russ Cmd. Squadron gets a 4+ cover save on it's AV14 front armour and still fire. Enginseers can bless a Tank Cmdr's Demolisher giving it PotMS allowing it to fire it's Demolisher ordnance cannon at one target and BS4 Lascannon at another. Chimerae still have the Command Vehicle rule so that embarked officers can issue orders while onboard measuring command radius from the hull. Any help and/ or constructive criticism would be appreciated I'm trying to come up with an army list that doesn't have any big mistakes because I took it apart and stripped my old army ready to reassemble for the new codex, and if you guys think it's good to go, I'll paint it up and start getting out to the tables and getting some experience.

So here's my feedback:

Pask could benefit from MM sponsons but those are not mandatory particularly at lower points like 1500. So a goid start. However the basic Leman Russ is a little mediocre. The Executioner is 5 points more for far more killing power. Give it Plasma Sponsons and it kills a unit a turn with 5 templates. Remembering Pask has the PE warlord trait so that would give the Executioner PE due to the PE rules which would give it full rerolls to hit and rerolls on gets hot. However this is only if he is your Warlord which he can't be if you have that Company Command.

The CCS is a little pointless here with Pask. It takes away one of his big benefits and gives you a soft Warlord tgat could instead be an AV14 tank!

3 Primaris are overkill at 1500 and lvl2 is really wasting points. They are a force multiplier you want to have plenty of force to multiply currently they can only really buff the infantry.

Platoons are only really worth it if you're taking more than 60 guardsmen. Vets are so much better for almost the same points that you should stick to them for more firepower. Unless you've got a clear plan for stuff the Vets can't do (get in a Vendetta utilise a specific order).

Chimeras aren't really worth it when a Taurox does the same for 15 less points unless you need the extra transport capacity.

Hellhounds are outright atrocious now. An Eradicator is 5 points LESS for the same (S6 Ap4 ignores cover) but from a longer range and with front AV14. Or better yet get Wyverns if you want to kill infantry as they are the best unit in the game for that job.

Where does it say you can't take a Tank Commander as a HQ with a company commander? You can't take a Commisar Lord with a Company Commander. Maybe that's what you were thinking about

Your Warlord has to be your HQ character with the Highest Ld. That is in the BrB. Pask doesn't have an Ld therefore when you take any other character eligible to be the Warlord they must be chosen over Pask (or the Tank Commander).

hum...does that mean if I took a Enginseer in my HQ slot it would have to be my Warlord? Sounds like either a oversight or something that needs a FAQ (if they still believed in them)

You can choose a tank commander to be the warlord so it doesn't matter what other HQs you have, you just choose the tank commander instead of the one with highest Ld.

All right guys, the list below is what I have following the suggestions. I kept created two squads of veterans, one with plasma and one with melta. I gave them the chimeras in case I wanted to put the psykers with them. I then gave the company command squad carapace armor and camo gear to hide in cover. I gave them one of the heavy weapons and the special weapons from the former blob squad. So, I'm at 1236 and am kind of tapped out on my guard minis. I have enough for a squad or two or special characters. Then I also have space marine allies. I could convert a valkyrie/ vendetta too.

It's considered a single model, so only have to pay for the Carapace armor once. It's not like it gets two armor saves.
