Howdy gents, list below - looking for thoughts - it's not a tournament army but I don't want to get roflstomped on local gaming nights either!
HQ:
Captain - Relic + Combi
Elites:
Sternguard x5 - 5 combi weps + razorback
Assault Terminators x5
Troops:
Tactical x10 - ML + plasma + pwr fist + rhino
Tactical x10 - ML + plasma + combiwep sgt + rhino
Heavy:
Vindicator
Vindicator
Storm Raven -hurricane + typhoon
Fast:
Storm Talon - TL LC
Storm Talon - TL LC
Comes out to 1835.
Captain to ride with sternguard in the razorback, terminators to be in the Storm Raven. Are there enough boots on the table for this size game?

Don't worry, I'm having the Same issue with my orks list haha, no one cares, personally I would take out the terminators as I never really find much use for them, they normally get gak to pieces when I use them in games that size, unless there has been a new buff to them in the coded I've overlooked then I would personally swap them for another sternguard razor unit or a vanguard squad, as personally I think they hit a little harder

Thanks for the feedback mate! That is a good suggestion, I might try the sternguard out and see how they perform! I think the terminators will be used as a bit of a kill squad for scary things like wraithknights or other monstrous creatures, blast them with the storm on the way in and wack them with the TH and try to survive.

So your running them with TH? My suggestion would be ally with guard and use some conscripts as cannon fodder just to keep your termies a little safer, and if all else fails perhaps swap the stormraven or a land raider?

Well what models do you have to work with? If you can list them I can offer you some good advice (at least it's worked for friends).
But some notes on what works best.
1) sternguard need drop pods to work at 100%, and always take combi meltas.
2) captains are OK, but CM are great with A4 and W4 throw in a TH/SE/AA and he can curb stomp pretty much anything.

Can I ask why they need the drop pods? is it purely to get them in-face with the combi weapons sooner or are there some other advantage?

Pretty much getting them in the enemies face to kill their big bad dude. Other advantage is if they have nothing of worth to come in and blow up, they don't have to be inside it.

But if you think about it, by turn 2 the razorback would have gotten them just about wherever they need to be without leaving them in the open to be slaughtered, a drop pod is just 20 points cheaper but offers no protection, and against monstrous creatures which are competitively used a hell of a lot more that vehicles, a razor can drop them straight into cover and let them hellfire spam till the sheer weight of armour saves kills the riptide/ wraithknight etc... And just plop a lascannon on the razor to pop tanks

My suggestion is have an Alpha strike mission for each unit. the reason I run my Strenguard (10) in a drop pod is to pop a tank with combimeltas(4) on half the squad then the other half uses heavy flamers(2) to roast what is inside. works great. The droppod can't get hurt turn 1 if you go second and it always hits where its needed. Termies are sadly a waste of points. I love Storm Talons (BS5 is nice) I find them more cost effective with the skyhammer ML but maybe worth giving 1 a LC like I said have a plan for each unit if you dont plan on getting your tacs in cc (and you shouldn't) then don't give the sarge a PF that 25pts could go elsewhere. Hope that helps

I don't like heavy weapons in rhinos because they are always snap firing (you want the Tacticals moving to take objectives and applying pressure). Special weapons and a matching combi are your best bet. Avoid close combat because you are light on scoring units, and if they're in close combat they're probably already dead. Plus, being able to challenge out a sgt with special weapon just throws away points, sadly :(
The reason most people take skyhammer missiles on the stormtalon is because at S7, most targets are T5 or less.. So you only need 2s to wound.. You don't see a lot of Typhoon missiles because T6 and up models probably aren't the most common targets for you Stormtalons. Anti-vehicle fliers aren't the best points efficiency because they can die to interceptor in 1 shot.. I like anti tank on the ground. The stormtalon is best against other weak fliers and infantry.. Use it for that.
Vindicators can be scary, and 2 is nice.
I like the Stormraven, but if you really want TH/SS termies take a Redeemer. The AP3 is nice against fellow marine bikes. If you are sticking with the Raven, maybe take the multi melta for anti flier and load it with a scoring unit to take a late game objective.
Taking a Captain gets you the command squad which is awesome, but if you aren't using them, just take a cheap HQ like librarian. If you are looking for a nasty close combat HQ upgrade to a chapter master. If so , commit and buy him good gear.
The reason Sternguard are so good on the drop is the combis plus, they have to be dealt with which buys the rest of your army time to get upfield.
Hope that helps.
