Im in need of help of whether or not to keep my spacemarines or fully commit to the guard? The only thing really stopping thus decision is the fact that i started with the marines and put more time into them. On the other hand it seems hard to win consistantly. Maybe its just me but im kibda tired of them. Would commiting to the guard be a mistake? Help Me! Lol

This is entirely a preference thing. What style of army do you like? Both armies can work, but play differently. I’d recommend sitting down and listing what you like and dislike about both armies. Could you be playing your marines differently and enjoy them more? Will you commit to guard and end up with the same issues?

If you are playing against people of similar skill, you should be winning roughly half your games. If you are still starting out, you will win less. If you keep playing the same army, you will get better over time. Switching to guard will probably cause you to loose more games in the short term, and might not help at all in the long term.

Getting tired of an army is more problematic. Which is why you should evaluate why you are playing them in the first place.

And at the end of the day, you can always ally both forces together. No need to ditch anything. This way you get the best of both worlds.

Do you have the disposable income to add to your Guard without selling your Marines?

If you feel the marines lose where the guard wouldn't, have you tried allying them together?

If you're tired of the marines, definitely try something different, you might find that it just makes you miss your marines or you might find that guard are exactly your "sort of thing".

Both the SM and AM are great codices with a variety of play styles and interesting combinations to try.

It is really a matter of play style. SM can play a faster and more aggressive play style than AM ever could but they will never do infantry attrition, armoured fist, or gunline styles of play anywhere near the AM. I find that this is the reason that people say "SM are fail" is that they try to play them defensively or as a gunline, which they have little to no ability to accomplish.

What play style do you like?

Go full-on guard, but drop a couple of nice SM units as allies.
Or, as you're building up your IG/AM, use them as allies to your SM, to get the hang of them.
Don't sell them though. Just yet.

You can ally one with the other with no problems. Don't sell off your Marines, especially if you've put time and effort into them. Selling off an army never makes back its money, and a few months later you'll be wishing you still had said army. Just grow your IG slowly as allies for your Marines, and in time you'll have enough for a standalone army.

In the meantime, what does your Marine list look like if you're having so much trouble with it? Marines are a good codex.

Or, get Fortifications.
A Bastion is usable by anyone, and the SA book has other options. I like the Wall of Martyrs bunkers, which act like an ADL, with a roof.

I've sold a few things here and there to fund other aspects or new armies. I am now in the market to buy back the same things I sold because now the army set up I want to run needs those models.

Unless you hate the SM and never want to touch them again.. I don't think I would sell.

The advice my old school wargamer dad has given me time and time again is to never sell an army. I think it's true in almost every case. The only armies I've ever sold were very short lived and I never played more than one game or painted more than a handful of models for them.
