Stompa. I've used one in a couple of Apoc games now, the first was "Tanksgiving" (all vehicles, no troops), the second was a recent country-wide mega-battle (basically, stores ran their own games, Imps vs. Xenos/Chaos, and submitted the results; in Jacksonville, we had four stores doing games and combined them). In the first game, my Stompa just shot stuff like mad, all over the table, blowing tanks up with reckless abandon. In the second one? Stomped/shot up a bunch of Thunderwolf Cavalry, a lot of Space Marines, some Centurions, Commissar Squad, multiple Space Marine vehicles, and a super-heavy tank (I forget the name at the moment, but the Baneblade with the long Titan-killer gun), all while shrugging off a bunch of firepower and transporting Ghazghkull and eight other Mega-Nobz.

Simply put, it's resilient and can put out a LOT of firepower.

In an Escalation game especially, that's huge for the Orks. (And since we're using the term "Lord of War," I'll assume Escalation.) An Ork army as it currently stands doesn't have much to reliably take on tanks or power armor at range. A Stompa? Ha. Multiple infinite-range S8 AP3 missiles (even with BS2, you're likely to hit something), massive cannon for killing stuff, super gatling gun that can chew up Marine squads, and a lot of big shootas for throwing out even more shots. Plus transport capacity. And on top of all that, it will wreck stuff in combat. So yeah, it's pretty major. Serious bonus that it will draw a lot of fire from the rest of your army, so you can, for example, get a Battlewagon full of Nobz into the middle of the enemy army and start wrecking face.

Escalation, technically, no.

Apocalypse, though, yes.

In the current Apocalypse book, there's a nice note at the start of the Orks section that says that Orks loot pretty much anything, and if you want to represent that, you can use any vehicle formation (including super-heavies) with an Ork army. I've joked with people about getting another Lord of Skulls just to Ork it up, and no one has a problem with it.

(Heck, most people were fine with the idea of Orking up a Knight, but I opted not to do that and went instead for a disgraced Knight look so I could use it with all my armies. The only people griping about me using that in an Ork army are the No Fun Brigade who want to just win all the games.)

I think you'll struggle to find better than Buzzgob's Mek Stompa, since it comes it at cheaper than an Imperial Knight. Not sure that it was intentional but as it stands, it's the cheapest superheavy in the game and rougher than a Stompa.

I you look at my other thread, that was debunked and stomped on. The 300 is added to the initial cost of the Big Mek Stompa for a grand total of 1130 points.

Its not that tough though unfortunately. In bigger games there is usually tonnes of stuff that can down it quite quickly.

Have you read the Baneblade novel? A squiggoth rofl-stomps a squadron of super heavies and multiple squadrons of russes... mind you they had a psyker aboard as well lol.

Does anyone know basically what the Gargantuan Squiggoth is packing? Not trying to break any forum rules, but its a pretty big model, and I am wondering if its really that devastating for being so large.

Kustom stompa is the clear best unit killy per point wise, just give it 2 blastas and nothing but the skin on its back and it will go to work against just about anything

Kustom stompa built into a klawstompa also packs quite a punch. There is no way anything will ever survive being charged by it.

@ErikSetzer: Those missiles hit on a 2+ due to being grot-guided.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks do not think that purple makes them harder to see. They do think that camouflage does however, without knowing why.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

I was told at my FLGS that the Stompa would become like the IK for Orks. What do you think, and had this been addressed somewhere else?

Yeah right. A stompa might not be the best super-heavy out there, but unlike a knight it will pretty damn sure wipe the floor with any anything that's not geared towards handling super-heavies. I have witnessed a single vanilla stompa wiping out 3000 points of blood angles in apoc, there is no way to get it into 40k without fudging up the entire game.

We have a few ork players down at the gw, two have stompas. They fielded them both in a green (colored) army vs other and they tabled the ultrasmurfs and eldar pretty much by themselves. Was fun

Regular stompas are easy to take down, just use any anti tank weapons and focus the hell out of it. Its armour isn't too high so armies should be able to handle it without superheavies of their own (I have done it many times playing escalation with my necrons)
