I`m in the process of painting a British Rifle Platoon(Late War) by Battlefront and have noticed half the platoon have either a large spade or pick axe on their back. Nothing unusual about about that but on looking for pictures of greater detail they seem hard to find

There are plenty of artist pictures on the net but if you look for black and white genuine photos I can only find one image of British troops carrying large spades and pick axes and that's for fighting in built up areas.

I`m no expert and hopefully somebody on here is but I thought British troops carried the entrenching tool which is what the small wooden pole is hanging off the bottom of the webbing ? If your already lugging this

and a few spare heads(shovel, axe & pick) why add a giant pick axe ?

Would of been better to leave the large pick axe or spade as an option to glue on if needed

Anybody else noticed this ?

i also did notice this to,when building my British companies and Platons.what i did was use the Non HAnd tol models as Motor Rifles and used the one with the Entrenching tols as Loried or reg.IFnatry Rifles. For me the decision to sort them this way,Was to represent one as lite infantry and the other as heavy or medium Infantry.for me this worked out pretty good.I have some painted piks in my blog.I have a link in my sig.

Are they regular rifle company minis or did you pick up some engineers by mistake?

Are they regular rifle company minis or did you pick up some engineers by mistake? Battlefront usually gives them extra kit like that to designate them.
