Has anybody made any DIY helmet scrim before ? I`ve noticed most of my British vehicle crew have nice smooth helmets as opposed to the Rifle Platoon`s scrim

helmets. I would like them to match so I`m thinking a bit of green stuff for the scrim and also add a chin strap ?

You may not want to wear a scrimmed helmet in a tank as it can catch on things as you dive down in the turret...

That said, why not head swop a few?

They are all jumping out of brens and loyds so in theory they should not be getting caught up,but perhaps head swapping is the way to go

No Brits with scrim on their helmets sadly (apart from paras).

If you are doing head swaps with 15mm minis my advice for technique is to use snips to, hold the model about half way up the head (about ear height) and twist gently in both directions until the head shears off at the neck. Then drill a hole in the 'neck' before posting in the new head.

Ok decided to go with the green stuff.

Placed a tiny bit on the helmet and gently flattened it with a finger over the helmet. Any excess just cut off with a blade.

Next I used a bradawl with a small point to create the holes in the scrim.

Finally I cut out a thin strip and flattened it. I then cut off tiny flat strips to stick on top of the scrim.

No glue is needed and it takes about 3 mins to do a helmet. You just need to leave it dry for 24hrs.

Below is a picture of some Bren crew during painting with scrim just completed.

I guess the proof will be in the what they look like after painting and can you tell them from cast made scrim helmets ?
