So theres a local tourny coming up with a decent prize payout in my area. The rules are pretty spartan; no LoW, 1 combined arms and 1 allied detachment, no formations, and battle forged only. Im not generally expecting bay area or nova open levels of cut throat lists, but possibly some stiff competition none the less. Blood Angels are the army I know best, and the one that I have fully painted and based. Think this list is good enough to contend?

HQ
-Reclusiarch- 170 points
Power Fist
Jump Pack

-Honor Guard- 220 points
Jump Packs
3x Melta Guns
Power Fist

Elites
-Furioso Dreadnought- 170 points
Frag Cannon
Blood Fist with Heavy Flamer
Drop Pod

-Sanguinary Priest- 90 points
Jump Pack
Power Sword

Troops
-10x Assault Marines- 230 points
2x Melta Guns
Sgt with Power Sword and Melta Bomb

-10x Assault Marines- 230 points
2x Melta Guns
Sgt with Power Sword and Melta Bomb

-10x Assault Marines- 220 points
2x Flamers
Sgt with 2x Hand Flamers

Fast Attack
-Baal Predator- 145 points
Assault Cannon
Heavy Bolter Sponsons

-Baal Predator- 145 points
Assault Cannon
Heavy Bolter Sponsons

Heavy Support
-Stormraven Gunship- 230 points
TL Lascannon
TL Multi Melta
Hurricane Bolter Sponsons

So far the list has been testing very well against space marines of all types, orks, and tyranids. It also has a decent matchup against tau, necrons, and static guard armies. The only things I have struggled with are mechanized AM and eldar, so I either have to out think or not play them.

So what does everyone think? Does this old book still have some teeth?

Overall your list is pretty solid.

Not sure if I would spend points to get a power fist on the reclusiarch. Probably better to take a magna grapple on the Furioso and stick with the Crozius. You get to keep the bolt pistol for some dakka, and get +1 attack when you fight.

Might be better with infernus pistols on the melta squad sarges than a power sword, but if it is hardcore WYSIWIG and that is what you have, that will do.

Why not take TLAC over the lascannon on the raven? You can get better AT from the assault cannon against light armor, and with rending you still threaten heavy targets, but retain dakka against blobs. Plus, when you are going for AT you have the missiles so you should be able to drop fliers and most tanks with ease.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

The lascannon on the raven is there to make it a dedicated anti armor/flyer unit. With the changes to the damage table ive found that 4 ap1 and 2 shots without having to rely on rending is enough to pop a tank per turn, regardless of armor. Heck, maybe even 2 tanks with PotMS. The rest of the list has decent enough anti infantry.

The fist on the reclusiarch still gives him an extra attack with the crozius. You just dont gain the additional attack when striking with a specialist weapon unless your other is a SW as well. So he either has 5 str7 ap4 attacks at init5 or 4 str9 ap2 unwieldy attacks on the charge, all rerolling to hit. Makes him a very versatile combatant.

The infernus pistols on the sgts is an idea. I have the extra bits laying around to whip them up. Might have to try it.

Edit: even without the pistol, the reclusiarch can still throw bs5 krak grenades =D

A single Lascannon shot is rarely worth it in my opinion.
Assault Cannon is generally a better choice.

Otherwise an excellent list, but I would drop the PF from Honour Guard to add another Melta in there. Then melta bomb or two.
Specializing is the key.

Shameless bump, but i tried this exact list out vs 2 daemons lists yesterday. 1 was a flying circus FMC spam, and the other was daemon factory. Won both games pretty handily. The first was killpoints vs circus with a lord of change, nurgle prince, and 3x tzeentch princes rolling either biomancy or daemonology, dawn of war deployment. Got first turn, scouted baal preds forward and put both of them into a prince, dropping it. The fragnaught wounded another prince, which was killed by my jet 2nd turn. The lord of change died to the honor guard turn 3 when he got grounded and subsequently charged. The daemon player then conceded.

The second was d3+2 objectives vs daemon factory. Similar to FMC but with less toys on the princes in exchange for some pink horror squads. This game i just wiped everything he summoned onto the table, killed princes where i could, and grabbed objectives.

I love this list. Still worried about mechanized AM or eldar though.

Edit: the circus also had a few squads of nurglings in reserve as troops, so it was battleforged legal

I played this kind of list in the 5th ed after the new BA codex came out.
Against some armies such a list can fall apart quite easily.

On the flamer assualt squad remember that each weapon is resolved before the next one, so you are unlikely to get max benefit from 2 flamers and 2 hand flamers.

This is actually a boon to squads with combi weapons. As other weapons fire first. Flamers... Eh

Not to burst your bubble but from the brief description it sounds like you were playing against two fairly inferior daemon lists, definitely not tournament quality. I like your list though, it is very similar to my own.

Yeah hes just getting his daemons figured out in 7th. Did place 2nd in the tournament though, out of 20+ people. Faced taudar (tie), space wolves (win), and tau (win). Tau is the easiest matchup ever.

Alright, so sorry for not looking at previous posts, but here are my thoughts on the OP.

I would take out the power fist on reclusiarch, and power swords on sanguinary priest and sergeants and one hand flamer for another sanguinary priest. Keep those marines alive.

The list already has 2 FC/FNP bubbles. The honor guard comes with a sanguinary novitiate =D

Man, I really like this list, goes to show how good BA can become when we have some points to spend.

How are you liking the Storm Raven? Just got my first, debating on whether or not to add it to my BA standing army.

Also, did you take the Honor guard specifically over another unit/s because of the included Sang priest?

Points arent really an issue if you stick to the efficient units in the codex. Just gotta be a smart list builder.

The stormraven is definitely worth it. Ours is probably better than the other chapters, simply because we retained the ability to deep strike and our missiles are ap1 instead of ap2 concussive.

The honor guard fit in 3 more special weapons, a fist, and another priest for about the same cost as a 10 man assault squad. Granted, its only 5 dudes, but they make excellent tank and monster hunters, and with the reclusiarch can actually hit pretty damn hard.

I'm just saying, you can deal without a power sword and a power fist and stuff for another FNP Bubble...and that leaves the command squad to kindof do its own thing.

THere's more strategies you can do when you can split them up.

We retained the ability to DS our Stormravens? I thought this was FAQ'd away?
