Hi everyone
This is a high elf army list that I put together. I am not looking for a WAAC list but want to be fairly competitive.

Lords:320

Archmage (shadow, high, or something else?)
Book of hoeth
Talisman of preservation

Heroes:321

Noble
BSB
BotWD
Barded steed
Dragon armor
Shield

Noble
Shield of the Merywyrm
Star Lance
Luckstone
Great weapon
Barded steed
Dragon armor

Core:503

Ellyrion Reavers
Champion
Bow and spear

Silver helms x16
FC
Shields

Special:615

Lion Chariot

Pheonix Guard x28
FC
Razor Standard

Rare: 240

Frostheart Phoenix

Total: 1999

So my main questions are what lore should my Archmage have? And should I switch the combat noble for a unit of archers that allows me to drop unnecessary upgrades on the Reavers. I think a high Mage can go with the Pheonix Guard while A Shadow Mage might be better of with archers.

Thanks

The Lair of Vengeance....Poole.

Drop the shield. In a competitive setting, death rules the roost. And you have 0 protection against it. The Enchanted shield and talisman of preservation will take you much further. And you can't parry on horseback. The same goes for the banner. It's more prudent to have a combat BSB and take dragon princes to carry it. Sure the helms are core, but they're not as good in any aspect.

I'd split the helms into two units of 5 and a unit of 6. More chaff and drops. Then stick the archmage on a pony and take ~11 princes as the bus.

Malifaux masters owned: Guild(Sans McCabe), Outcasts(Sans Misaki), Arcanists(Sans Marcus)

I actually think this list is ok. I agree that the shield is a bad choice for a mounted hero though as most places rule that you still don't get a parry whilst mounted. Core for HE is kind of meh so you have to do something and the huge SH bus is pretty popular right now. BotWD is debatable but ok I guess - it tends to be better when you have more characters in there to protect.

I think shadow and high are going to be great options for you. Shadow may not be as clutch because you've chosen the more survivable combat options in silver helms and phoenix guard, and since you don't have such a hard emphasis on shooting. Shadow is great for the -1 S and -1 T to improve both of these aspects. Mindrazor would be decent on the phoenix guard but it's not as good as many other.

I think high is going to be the way to go. After one cast your phoenix guard are going to be up to a 3+ save. You also have a couple of big guys that could make use of apotheosis, which is usually pretty meh if you don't have multi-wound models. All of the other spells are pretty solid, and very fun. If you're really fearful of big ogres blocks in the like, you may go back to Shadow just for the Pit of Shades, though.

I agree with John, the list looks good. Golden Helm may be a good choice on a character you want to keep alive more. I also think the BotWD should go in the cav unit rather than on the BSB. This way your BSB can spend points on magic items to make him more surivable and the banner can only be removed by killing the entire unit or breaking it in CC.

Ok Everyone, thanks for all of the advice

I misunderstood the parrying rules so the shield is gone.

@thedarkavenger: How would I fit in 11 dragon princes and if I did would they really be that much better that the helms.

An I dea that I had would be that if I dropped the combat noble, I could add a unit of 14 archers and put the wizard in there, this would allow me to cast hexes and arguments into combat and not cutting the usefulness of my wizard after combat is adjoined.

Lore wise I am worried that high magic will lose effectiveness after turn three or so. I was considering heavens because of both early game and mid-late game spells. However, Heavens has low casting values that I feel are wasted on a lvl 4 with the book.

Overall, thanks to everyone for taking the time to respond and help me out with this army.

Do you think that maybe swapping the lion chariot, the luck stone, and o PG for two bolt throwers would make the list better.
