Hi guys,

I've seen a few wood elves lists since they came out, a few competitive ones. Here I have a rough draft mimicking one of the lists that placed quite high in a local tournament.

Lvl 4 high or dark spellweaver elven steed, MR 3, book of ashur (optional)
Lvl 4 life spellweaver elven steed, Acorn
BSB on elven steed, hail of doom or moonstone

10 Riders w/ poison shots
10 Riders w/ poison shots
10 Riders w/ truflight
(add however many to fill core tax)

10 sisters of the thorn
5 sisters of the thorn
5 sisters of the thorn

10 waywatchers x2

So the idea for this list is pretty simple. The bus of everything do what they do while the riders come on later the game to jump around and be annoying. The 5 woman unit of sisters will be casting curse of andhreir (screw it im not getting that right) to play with the enemy. Waywatchers do what waywatchers do best. Now I think this list and this TYPE of lists have a lot of potential, possibly the most hidden power in fantasy right now (dare I say that as a fairly new player); how do I make it better?

And the balanced part of me want to ask the opposite question, how do I deal with this? All the points in a unit that regenerates and hard to deal with. Units that under the right command will never be touched in combat and of course, archery.

Thanks for spending 30 seconds on this post y'all

You have no combat units.

You still only get 2d6 dice in the magic phase and most of your damage has to come from the magic phase. You're still only T3.

I don't see this list being that good. Maybe for a certain local scene, but a well balanced army should take this pretty easily. Death Star armies win, because you can't do enough damage. There are way too many armies that can shut down or mitigate too much damage from you magic, not to mention shutting yourself down when you roll a 3 for winds of magic 3 turns in a row.

The dark elf version is much tougher than this. The sisters don't do enough for their points and you die if anyone catches you in combat, shoots at you with purpose or sneezes in your direction with magic..

Some matchups may be favorable to you, but all around I don't see this as too strong of a list.

Sorry, my reply is maybe a little too harsh, I just think this has been overplayed, and i think the WE book should have been better. Your list is not bad, but like I said, for an army that has to stay out of combat, only has shooting to do any damage, and 1/4 of your army is off the board turn 1, is heavily invested in a fickle and unreliable magic phase, I would be hard pressed to call this anything but a mid tier army.

T4 armies make your shooting remarkably worse. HE, DE, LM, any shrewd player and poor luck, make your magic phase lackluster and you have nearly half of your army invested in magic output.

That's all I'm saying

I tend to agree with some of the post above but I would say that you are certainly on the correct path. You have a few weaknesses in the list that need to be shored up before you can be "competitive" with it.

The first thing that should definitely happen would be to drop the two extra squads of sisters and add two squads of wild riders. Those things hit like a truck and they have never disappointed me in a game. They provide the close combat oomph that your list desperately needs.

I would also try to fit in a couple eagles in the rare slot because they provide some much needed chaffing ability and some warmachine hunting in a pinch. They are a very versatile unit and are almost an auto-include at only 50pts a piece when you only need the two, considering everything they provide in a list.

Lastly, I might change the life mage to a shadow. with all of your low strength bow attacks, you will need to get the withering so that you can actually wound with any consistency. The CC buffs/debuff it provides also allow you to hit things with your wild riders and take little to no wounds in return on a flank charge. Either way, you have a good starting point but just need some tweaking.

The Lair of Vengeance....Poole.

This is almost the best build in the book. All you need is the 3 units of 6 riders.

Switch the second level 4 to dark/shadow/metal for a damage boost.

Thanks everyone. I'll take the ideas into consideration for my list.
