As the title says, I'm new to 40k never played it before but I'm half way through the rule book and I've watched a lot of battle reports on youtube. I want to start building the orks in my stormclaw box but I have some questions. In the stormclaw box they tell you how to outfit each model weapon wise. However I know that weapon choice affects points so I bought the codex so I could see how it breaks down. If I assemble a model with a certain weapon is that model locked in to only that weapon? Or can I tell my opponent "he doesn't have a shooting weapon it's just the model." I did read that WYSIWYG used to be a thing but not so much anymore. I'd like the models to have the correct loadout but without any experience playing I have no idea how I want to build them.

I could magnetize some models. Say I have 30 Boyz I could glue 10 as shooters, 10 as melee, and 10 magnetized.

When it comes to the army list do people put everything down on paper? Such as "this model has this equipment, this one has this, etc.." I'm a warmachine player and keeping track of army points in that game is very easy by just keeping the cards for the units together.

Do I have something in my teeth?

Magnetizing is definitely a good idea, as a lot of people prefer WYSIWYG. Magnets allow you to follow that rule and still have a ton of options every game, plus you won't have to buy a few hundred boys just in case you want to switch from sluggas to shootas.

As for army lists, it depends on the environment you play in. I know some people who only write down the wargear they purchase for the unit, so anything they come with is excluded from their lists. Meanwhile, the lists I write include all the wargear and special rules of the units I use, I even write their profiles down and print 2 copies so I can always provide my opponent with one. It makes the list writing a longer process, but I find that the games actually go faster.

Magnetising models is an option, but sort of a pain for things like Boyz where you have so many.

It can be a great idea for things like Nobz or Terminators though, where the small unit size makes it fairly easy.

WYSIWIG isn't hugely important, but consistency is. If that unit of guys with pistols and axes counts as having shootas, all the other ones with pistols and axes should do too. So as to not confuse people and be a pain when playing.

Magnetising is best used for bosses and one-offs. If you're doing a full squad, it'll get expensive, and you might as well just buy more bodies.
I have a 5-man squad of Space Marines, and each has 4 magnets in the torso for heads (veteran or not), backpacks (jumppack or normal) and both arms. I now know it's overkill.

One way to keep your numbers up is to pad out squads with non-WYSIWYG models, and try to make them blend in. Keep all 'outer-ring' models good, and a few in the middle non. Take them out first as the casualties pile up, and fill in the gaps from the front row.

over there

Make sure everything and all things wargear wise are written down on paper, one of my buddies "memorizes" his lists. One time he brought relic armour, never told me, and i tgought i insta gibbed his chapter master with a krak missile, but didnt

The west is on its death spiral.

It was a good run.

First, welcome to dakka and the hobby.

If any, I would magnetize the weapons on the Killa Kanz only. I know you don't likely have swappable options in the box, but you will get more Kanz as your collection grows.

Magnetizing troops... I don't recommend. It will be a total pain in the ass to do, fiddley for moving on the TT and storing and aesthetically difficult to pull off. You'll buy more Boyz, once you find a list you like or a play style.

I started when the "Kan Wall" was one of the better ork builds. I bought 3 boxes and glued all 9 (no regrets). I magnetize only vehicles. My wagons, trukks, dakka jets, etc. I play WYSIWYG, but sometimes I proxy. Like "this unit of burnas are actually flashgits" or stormboyz or whatever.

Don't sweat it too much, but remember you like to play in cool terrain against a cool looking army whose weapon loadouts are identifiable and look bad ass? Extend that courtesy to your fellow gamers. That's wha they like too.

Make sure you go "pew pew" as much as possible and be good sport.

Can you post some pics of these? I had no idea any of this was possible.
