I've just started putting together my Space Wolves army, and I need dice to play with too. Is there a pack aside from the GW dice cube that has everything needed for W40K?

P.S. If someone can point me toward a source to figure out all the abbreviations and terms, that'd be a big help. Like what the heck is a TEQ? Does de-mech just mean destroy the vehicle the unit is mounted in?

If you hover over the word TEQ, you'll see the definition. And yes, de-mech means just that.

Also, you can buy extra dice from any gaming store.

Hovering only works on things with a mouse. You can't exactly hover using a touch screen. So, the simple solution would be to look at the website on something with a mouse because Dakka is very impressive adding most, not all but most, of the common use acronyms to the pop up thingy.

However, just a bit of a gripe on that front, would like if 'internet names' of things were also added in there. Devilgaunts, Dakkafex, mantaurch or whatever. De-mech is another example of the internet jargon that may as well be another language to people that don't speak it.

You wont find many "Packs" that will include 1 scatter dice.

Just second hand some extra scatters or get them online (resells off pieced starter sets) and get a cube of chessex or whatever floats your boat.

I'm with ya on the abbreviations. Some are well known (such as WTF?) but people can be pretty liberal with what they decide to shorthand. It'd be nice if peeps would fully use the not-so-commonly-abbreviated term once in their post before they start abbreviating it. At least the map would be there for others to follow.

For example:

What do you guys think about the Deathleaper? Any useful strat I should be aware of? If I plan on using a DL, should I just go full bore and run the DL special formation?

End example.

Now that I've shown myself to be a wordy D-bag, these forums aren't really that bad when it comes to abbreviations. Diablo 2 and 3 forums are much worse...

So is there a list of what I'll need for W40K games? X scatter die and Y D6 dice?

As many d6 as you can get your hands on.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

You can very easily get away with two scatter die, one for using and one backup since they will only ever be rolled one at a time. But D6? A 6 man squad of Striking Scorpions can roll 24 dice on the charge, and different colored dice too representing the many various weapons (mandiblasters, chainswords, Exarch weapons). A twenty strong brood of Termagants with Devourers, well that's 3 shots per, so 60 dice. Admittedly, Space Wolves aren't as quantity, but under 12", two shots per bolter, 24~D6 from a full squad. I'd say atleast 30 dice, but still multiple colors as well. I'd start off with a 36 count dice "cube" that isn't actually a cube (rectangle), and then maybe another in a different color. Simple colors were $8 at my local shop and I'm sure cheaper online. You can very easily do the guns in order as it says to in the rules, but many players prefer to just say that Color X represents Gun X and Color Y is Gun Y. "Red needs 3s and Blue needs 5s and has a reroll." Either way is acceptable.

Honest

1-2 Scatter dice and 1 36 dice brick from cheesex is enough for most games

but you could splurg on some extra dice its a good idea as alot of the time you will need to mark objectives and what kind it is and wounds and stuff.

I like 12 mm dice for the dakka, 16 mm dice for nearly everything else.

If you head to your FLGS and chat with the 40k guys about the terms you could be FUBAR.

OTOH there was a thread that listed them IIRC.

Yes, here it is: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/205002.page#205825

LOL WTF that was a long list, but It was a cool read IMHO

FYI get to a computer with a mouse, and take a look at this thread on DD that the admins posted. FWIW I hope this answers your questions and GL with your searching, i HTH.

TBH I think that was all a little OTT but YMMV.
