I wonder if this will be full of typos and wrong colour names next to the colour swatches, like every other 'how to paint' guide they've released?

Only really noticed the wrong colour swatch issue on my Dark Vengeance how to paint guide to be honest. The others have been pretty good.

Does in include tips on techniques, or is it just a colour reference book? If the former, I'd probably have a look at some if available for something that isn't an iPad.

I like the way the blog post lists this as a selling point:

"There’s a 360º image of the Librarian in the guide, enabling you to see him from every angle so you can get the colours just right."

what, like the one that's on the store listing for him, that I can look at for free....?

It's likely used as a selling point because it means that it is part of the painting process. If it's on iPad then likely you are able to 'pick' specific areas and it will have a popout showing you what colors and shading to use for that specific area.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Calling these a "masterclass" is a bit of a joke isn't it? Every one I've seen(a mate insists on buying them for some reason) is just the application of the same basic tabletop-standard "GW Paint System(tm)" technique with miniature-appropriate colour choices.

If someone expects me to pay actual money for a painting guide, they damn well better be showing me at least one competition-level technique or trick; why on earth would you pay GW for something you can easily find online for free?

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks
-----
"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

That's being a bit prejudiced Yodhrin, considering no-one has got their hands on it yet. As with all releases, best wait and see what happens. I believe the sample is available on iBooks now but I don't know how much of it you'll have access to.

Shhhhh!!! Don't let them know that or else they'll start charging $2 to look at each of the 360 views on the website.

Just downloaded the sample.. it's a shinier version of "How to Paint" essentially. There's a 29 step guide to assembly and prep (yes, 29), then some paint guides for the cherub back and the scroll bit. Technique wise it just seems to show you what mix to use to blend the highlights nicely.

All yours for £15.99 on the iBooks store lol

I really liked the LOTR masterclass articles they used to have on the website for free. They were a lot longer and more detailed than the quick little tutorials they give and they really gave you an idea just how you paint good looking models vs just slapping basic colours out of the pot on to a model.

But hell if I'm going to pay for them when these days there's so many good free tutorials out there and even the painting DVD's you can buy explain how to paint to a much higher standard than the GW masterclass ones.

I'm overjoyed, yet devastated at the same time. I've been waiting for 'Eavy Metal Masterclasses to come back. But the price is ridiculous. These used to be free in White Dwarf magazines, and now they're charging over $20 USD for a single guide to paint a single 25-mm based miniature? I want to buy it to incentivize GW to release more Masterclasses. But I don't want to send GW a message that these prices are ok.

They were always in WD, which isn't free. I actually stopped buying WD when they stopped doing Eavy metal masterclass articles, so I'd prefer them to release the articles separately as I would hope they would be cheaper than an issue of WD.

Edit: the price. $24. Ye Gods. Also, it doesn't seem like a real article like the old ones, just a crappy paint guide like the current guides. The video guides they post on YouTube for free are better than this.

Many of the masterclass articles were freely available on the website.

You're right, I'd totally forgotten they used to have a bunch of articles as PDF downloads on their old site. I even have a bunch of them saved. Still, why give something away for free when you can charge extortionate amounts of money for it!

So this isn't included with the subscription to White Dwarf? They're charging for these parts too?

Good lord - I was annoyed when they started charging $3 a pop for these things. But $24!?!?!

That is beyond laughable for a painting guide. That's insane.

24 bucks? For that price you buy an annual subscription of miniwargaming.com, and receive 10x more tutorials o.O

I will not even talk about quality...

Why would it be included with a WD subscription?
