Ok, I've posted similar 1500 pt. Iron hands lists here before. Based on the feedback I think I have decided on this list as I feel I would enjoy playing it. So I would like to ask not so much what you would change, but rather a rating. Being just ok is alright by me, I just don't have much experience so I don't wish to field an army that will be slaughtered. So if a non space marine player wants to say that they would table this and its laughable, please tell me! Starting small and figuring things out through games is fine, but finances are an issue for me so I would feel more comfortable with a plan.

HQ-

Librarian, level 2
grav pistol

Troop-

x9 tac squad (librarian goes here)
plasma gun
plasma cannon
combi plasma
melta bombs
rhino

x10 tac sqaud
flamer
multimelta
combi flamer
metla bombs
rhino

Fast attack

x10 bike squad
grav gun
melta
multimelta attack bike
power weapon
melta bombs

Stormtalon
skyhammer missile launcher

Elite

Dreadnought
x2 autocannons

Ironclad dreadnought
2 flamers
2 hunter killer missiles
drop pod with deathwind missile launcher

Heavy Support

x2 Vindicators

2000= stormraven and chapter master on bike.

Hmm... so I take it by your original comemnts you don't want to change anything, so I'll save those recommendations for later if you care to read them. As for a rating:

Survivability: 7
Playing to the objectives: 6
Threat: 5

Ok, so for survivability, take advantage of Iron Hands CTs, so that's good, and transports for troops... all good. I think that if you're up against lots of anti armour (which there will be thanks to Knights, Lords of War, and some transports being Objective Secured now) a few lucky shots could really hurt. Overall, you will do well at keeping board presence though.

For playing to the objectives and winning missions, the only thing i can really say is make sure you have full 10-man squads in those rhinos so that you can combat squad out... giving each squad 3 units with objective secured taht must be dealt with... pretty effective. Two full units of troops isn't bad at 1500, but I'd like to see a third, more mobile unit (bikes, or scouts in a land speeder storm).

Finally threat rating... I think there are some nice things here, but the squads lack a bit because of their loadouts not being cohesive (you lose effectiveness when all the weapons can't hurt the target that your squad is committing to shooting) and range. Your dual vindicators are really great for the advance, but there's not much redundancy or range in the list outside of these... a TFC or two would help with this, or another flier.

I actually like the 2000 point list additions so your bikes become troops, and the stormraven (which is really nasty with IWND) can be escorted on by the stormtalon.

Ok, now for what I'd change:

I'd adjust all the bikes to have grav because they maximize its effectivness thanks to being relentless; I'd keep melta bombs on as much stuff as you can; the tac squads should have a special (I like melta for popping other transports near your objective) and a matching combi; I'd make the libby a captain on a bike to make all those bikes troops; The Ironclad is nice, but he's going to be up there alone on turn 1, unsupported (since you don't have the range or speed to get up there) so you should either commit more to that turn 1 strike, or drop him for something else... maybe get that libby up to a beastly chapter master with gorgon's chain and power fist?; the dreadnought is a nice cheap shooter for the backfield, so not much to say here. I'd probably exchange him for a TFC though in this list, but that's just my opinion.

Hope that helps!

Thank you for your reply. I have revised the list, what do you think?

HQ-

Captain on bike
artificer armor
power weapon

Troop-

x10 man tac squad
plasma gun
plasma cannon
combi plasma
melta bombs
rhino

x10 man tac squad
melta
multimelta
combi melta
melta bombs
rhino

x10 man tac squad
flamer
combiflamer
metla bombs
plasma cannon
razor back with heavy flamer

Fast attack-

x5 man biker squad
either a power weapon or grav pistol
melta bombs
x2 grav guns
attack bike with multimelta

Storm talon gunship
sky hammer missile launcher

Elite-

Dreadnought
x2 autocannons

Heavy support-

x2 vindicators with siege shields

2000= captain upgraded to chapter master, a stormraven and 152 points of something.

I have 12 points left over, three more and I could give my captain a storm shield. I am tempted to put the melta squad in a drop pod.... because I want a drop pod. Is that viable? I figure they can either drop on a choice objective first turn or a alpha strike.

I like this list a lot better. Your squads have a cohesive theme and you are making good use of the CTs.

The bike squad are troops b/c your Captain is on a bike, so that's an adjustment you should make in the post.

The plasma tac squad can't snapfire the plasma cannon if it moves at all, since it shoots a blast marker, so I'd drop that (there's your stormshield ha) The third tac squad is going to combat squad it looks like, since there's a Razorback involved.. I take it you will be putting the flamer guys inside? Pretty neat idea... but if you're keeping that heavy weapon sitting back, might as well make it a lascannon for the extra range IMO.

I would keep your tac squads in rhinos not pods... you don't have a lot geared up for an alpha strike so those troops would be out there unsupported.. better advancing together with the rest of your army.

I would drop the bike squad's grav pistol or power weapon down to a combi-grav and then upgrade the power weapon on the Captain to a power fist. Maybe use the rest of your free points to give him an auspex so the grav bikes get a little more effective at hitting something in cover?

The list is looking much better though. For 2000, I like the Chapter master (although I'd find room for the Shield Eternal) and the Stormraven, The other 100 points could get you some scouts in a land speeder storm or a TFC.

I think that is sound advice, I dropped the plasma cannon from the plasma squad and the power weapon on the sergeant and gave him a grav combi. I have a storm shield and thunder hammer on my captain now Thank you for your feedback!

So I wanted to give this a rating, I will go by your unit selection:

Troops: 5, there is a lot of them, but tactical marines, while they do do well, are not something most people are afraid of. Also if the plasma cannon is in the rhino, I can ignore it because if the rhino moves, which is its point, you will never be able to fire the plasma cannon. If they were combat squad ed with a razor back, I would be more concerned. You have a good amount of them, so I would have to work about objective control.

Elites:2, not much here, a single auto-cannon dread, can get popped easily enough, and once gone there are no other dreads to worry about. If your going to run shooty dreads you should bring probably three of them.

Fast attack: 6 the flyer is annoying but there is only one to deal with. The bikes would be annoying but with out the chapter master in front of them, they are easy to kill. There speed and grav gun threat, can be a problem though. Also the multi-melta atk bike is a nice threat source.

Heavy: 7, I like the vindicator, especially in 7th, they are harder to kill and excellent vehicle killers. Also bringing two of them can make my life difficult and they have will not die, with 13 armor, they are tough to crack.

HQ: 4, he is only a captian, while on the bike he is annoying, but with only a power weapon and a 4 up invul save, I am not that scared of him. He will be easy to kill and wont do much damage. Power swords are weak, there only str 4 and ap3, power axe is a little more intimadating, but not by much. Is he was the chapter mast with shield eternal and power fist, this would be a 10, because that is one, if not the single best brawler in the game right now, and is very scary when he is running at you.

Hope this helps, I have played against a lot of strong lists at my club, they are big into large tournies and competition, so I have seen what good lists put out. your list I would say is average, it will do well in a lot of casual games.

I enjoyed reading your list, best of luck.

I could remove the melta tac squad and replace the captain with a chapter master. That gives me 142 points. I could use that to either bump the bike squad back up to full, or add another stormtalon, or add another autocannon dread. Thoughts?
