Hello, my Wife is playing a panzer company and I'm playing a British para company, so we've got gammon bombs. How do infantry attack tanks? Can anyone run me through the scenario?

It's the same as any other assault. You need to be in range to assault etc. You initially have to pass tank terror to assault, then there is defensive fire, then if you make combat, you roll to hit, the opponent rolls to save (they're tanks) they then motivate to come back at you, if they succeed they roll to hit, you don't get saves as infantry, then you motivate to counterattack... Rinse and repeat until one side break off or is destroyed

That sounds like an up hill battle I like it. So during the attack I roll and add my tank assualt score?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I'm sure this is in the assualt portion of the rulebook at least I hope so. I just haven't gotten that far and am stressing about the rules behind this as it's one of the only ways I could beat her

Yes, it's in the Assault chapter

Never, ever assault a tank platoon from the front though, if they have MGs. Your assault WILL fail.

Lol thank you England and Germany. I don't expect my men to make it but we brought the maximum amount of PIATs and we have two 17pdrs, I just see things getting bloody so figured I should learn to use our Gammon bombs.

When assaulting tanks with infantry...

1.) Smoke the tanks if you can. This will likely cut down on the damage the Defensive Fire does to you.
2.) Hit them from out of arc if possible. You want to reduce the amount of machine gun fire they're throwing at you.
3.) You need to pass a motivation test (Tank Terror)
4.) Infantry that fired during the Shooting Phase can only assault if they fired at the Moving rate of fire.

So, if you think it'll help, drop a smoke bombardment on the enemy tanks to reduce their visibility (any tanks that can't see your infantry can't engage in Defensive Fire). Fire your PIATs at the tanks using the moving rate of fire (if you can kill or bail some of them before the assault, it'll make things easier). When the assault phase starts, pass your Tank Terror motivation test. Move into contact. Survive the tanks' Defensive Fire (familiarize yourself with the exception that allows you to assault without getting shot up based on terrain). Roll for saves if needed. If you didn't get hit five times, then you're not pinned, and the assault can continue (if you did, then the assault is over, and your teams return to their starting positions). Roll to hit for each team in range. Let your opponent assign the hits. Then let your opponent roll armor saves for the tanks. Remember that your PIATs will be your most effective anti-tank weapon in assaults, and don't forget to include them. Fire power tests are not taken in assaults. Any hit that equals the opponent's armor plus die roll automatically bails the tank. Any hit that exceeds the armor plus die roll automatically destroys the tank. If you scored at least one hit, then the opponent must take a motivation test to avoid withdrawing. If your opponent is forced to withdraw, any bailed out tanks left in range of your troops are "captured" and automatically destroyed.

This pretty much sums up the guidelines for assaults against tanks.

Good luck!

Hey, I'm still a bloody beginner as well - though my heart strike strong for the Easy Company.

What we wonder, though, what happens if you assault with a Tank? Can it "hit" when assaulting? O_o

Tanks can assault infantry and guns. But they can't assault other vehicles. The former presumably represents close range machine gun bursts, running things over, and otherwise scattering and demoralizing enemy troops (because a multi-ton armored behemoth coming right at *YOU*!!! is pretty scary). It's rather risky, though. It can be useful in taking out a gun battery (assuming that the defensive fire doesn't alarm you). But it's generally not a good idea against infantry unless there's a critical position that you absolutely must drive them out of.

Yep, we read that but could not find anything special about tanks and thought that it was weird to just treat assaulting tanks as assaulting teams (aka "roll dice"), imagining them hitting infantry on the head

A troll posted something in a thread a while back about FoW assaults being "bayonet charges" (which they *might* be; but of course they also include things like guns being fired at short range, grenades, etc...), and I quipped something about bayonets on tanks. An enterprising and creative poster then provided a bit of artwork featuring just that.

Strongly recommend BF's boot camp videos if you haven't seen them. There are a dozen or so of them but they really break the game down in bite-sized bits.

When we started playing, my Tigers used to get munched by Reaver83's Gammon bomb toting Brit paras with alarming regularity.

Provided you can pass your motivation tests (keep your CinC close by) you'll be knocking out Panzers left right and centre.

Also, attacking at night will help cut down the incoming defensive fire.
