Bases are a little too 'Passchendale' for my tastes, some dead stumps and small patches of weeds would perk these up a bit IMO. I've been thinking about adding small red flowers to WWI bases but this may be a bit too clichéd. It could probably do with some subtle way of making the rifle grenade teams more obvious as well. Otherwise a good start to your army.

Think they look nice.
As for sprucing up basing, maybe the rubble and rural sets would help with wagon wheels, blasted tree limbs, etc.

Wow, tough crowd

@George, I thought about the red poppies thing too. Closest I could find was some mininatur red flowers at atenocities.

I know what you mean about the whole cliché thing...just what I was going for...I mean if you don't do muddy water filled shell holes in WW1 when are you?? I figured I been doing so much "busy" basing recently that I fancied a change.

Thanks for the comments

You might want to read the 'Mythbusting The Great War' article on BF's web site.

Aesthetic differences aside, you've certainly got the look you were aiming for dead on. How did you make the pools by the way?

@Ghaz: I think that's what he's referencing in the last paragraph of his blog.

Didn't read the blog, and sarcasm is hard to detect in it's written form without or or even

It looks like you used bottle liquid effects?

It looks milky (which I noticed when I tested mine) and thought about mixing in some brown ink to give it the muddy colour. I would personally also try make the puddles less circular and more irregular in shape and size.

But they look great, makes me more excited to get my own! Personally I will go for the grassy field with flowers etc look.

Grey Hunter, my comments about sprue bits weren't meant to comment on your paint/basing work. Just throwing out some ideas for folks who might want to add debris to their bases.

Hi all, I used vallejo water effects. I used a paint brush to scoop it in.

Tbh I probably didn't let them dry enough before taking the photos, they are nice and clear now.

Thanks for the feedback guys, certainly a lot more than I'm used to, which is good.

I did experiment with a couple of tufts and also twigs as blown up trees, but I couldn't get it to look right. So gave up as I'd set a deadline of Monday to have the post out. However I like the cliche/cheeseball/Hollywood look...if I had the terrain know how I'd make it as muddy and shell hole ridden as I could...maybe one day.

Bah, that article was well... Yes, ok 1918 was a war of movement, but the majority of WW1 involved soldiers sitting in muddy trenches.... For months and months... With the occasional attack that led to the deaths of thousands and no breakthrough. Hardly a myth. And really those on the defense has a massive advantage. Everyone babbles about how decisive British tanks were. BAH! The Germans were half staved. They just used the tanks as an excuse to surrender... The blockade of Germany won the war...

And you can field A7Vs! Every second player will be fielding them! and germany built 20!

I think it is Battlefield has taken a massive artistic licence... They shouldn't go around saying the "truth" is a myth....

Also I think the OPs models are good. Well painted.

The most you can field is six (costing over 1700 points). This idea that everyone who plays a game somehow contributes to a recreation of a given army spread amongst the model collections of the entire community is fairly ludicrous.

Good thing the German list recognizes the limited nature of the A7Vs and allows captured Mark IVs to be used by players field Germans who decide to field armor.
Additionally, tanks are a supporting platoon and not required to be fielded at all by either player.

Very nicely done. Will be picking up my Brits this week and had zero idea of proper colors to use.

Hints on BF board that they're no plans to do a painting guide, at least in near future. Would be awesome if this were posted over there, too.
