Hi everyone,

We are a small start-up company trying to get into the wargaming terrain market.

These are our first steps but we already have some buildings to show and really big plans for the future, depending of course on the levels of interest from the community.

We are starting with SCI-FI terrains for 28mm scale - mainly because Infinity is becoming more popular within our gaming group - but the bigger picture will accomodate any scale and any period. Flames of War, Malifaux, Kensei, WH40K and even boardgames like Sergeants or Samurai Battles you name it. We want to be there to provide more spark for your favorite hobby.

One of our main goals is to keep all these nice buildings and terrain pieces at reasonable prices that's why at the beginning we are going to produce stuff from 3mm HDF and also stiff cardboard with different thicknesses, all of which will be laser-cut.

Our main page is still under construction but if you want to express your interest, comment or just to have a look what we're up to please follow us on our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/zenterrain

Hope to see you soon in our e-store.

Very nice.

Please do keep us informed as you progress

These are very nice, but at the same time it's just more mdf/hdf terrain. You need to get something different out there other then said material. I want some sci-fi terrain with curves andd round edges on it instead of blocky terrain. Very nice looking though and you will need a low competitive price for these.

Thanks for the comment overtyrant.
Although HDF could be quite limiting in it's use it is also very cheap and durable, we are planning more complex buildings with curvature / chamfers in the future.
We want to stretch this material to it's limits to keep the prices competitive.

Please watch this space for future releases.

As time goes by lots of new small companies show up, that's very good!
Good luck and I'll agree with overtyrant, you'll need to do something very competitive price-wise.

I like the designs, but would like to see some painted examples, if only to see how all those engraved lines look once paint goes over them...

Thanks for the comment insaniak - I hope you would be happy to know that the available models are in the process of painting by our talented buddy painter, so please watch this space...

As for the engraved lines - those aren't really engraved they are quite deep cuts which speeds up the process of getting the parts out of HDF, and I'm sure they will be clearly visible after painting over.

We have also realised that not all of you might want to visit the facebook page so I will post some more images of our products to get some more feedback from you.

I hope you like it then...it was the first building we designed.

We plan to make upgrade kits for some of the buildings to replace details with acrylics - but this material ain't cheap - we're searching for supplier that can serve us small amounts of it (for starters).

Cheers guys.

Hi there.

After a period of inactivity we can update you on what's fresh on our side of things.

We've put together prototypes for Crab, Tent and Conversion Kit and will soon post pics of it.

Also there is going to be a military version of the Crab...

The stuff that is absolutely new is a basic resi building (which means it's going to be cheap - around 8€ a pop).

You will also be able buy it in packs of 3 (cheaper - around 20€ per pack).

Because you can stack them.

And if you go bananas - you can do something like this.

Please visit our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/zenterrain and if you like what we do, don't forget to share.

I need a few hab blocks for a good block-war/gang smackdown.

I play a lot of Necromunda so these may be just what i need.

Any idea when you'll have these available for sale?

Regarding the poll: I can't answer that question. I thought about it, and I honestly can't answer it.

Simple buildings are great...when they are done well. A poorly designed laser cut building can look like a total POS.

On the other hand, I don't want to spend hours and hours assembling an overly complex building, and once a laser cut building gets up to the $50+ range, there had better be something special about it. Once the price point gets up that high (depending on the size of the structure and all) you're entering competition with plastic and resin buildings.

MDF terrain generally competes on price. It is fill your table terrain, not make everyone jealous terrain.

That said, your pieces look nice. The painted building is done well. Those pillars 'holding up' the balcony are going to get destroyed in storage though. They aint gonna last long freestanding like that.

With laser cut terrain, you've really got to use the medium well. One of my absolute favorite laser cut buildings is this building from 4Ground. The design that you have in the railing of your painted building is also a good example. It is a nice design element that works well with the medium.

It makes fantastic use of the medium. It assembles in about half an hour, it doesn't require painting, it looks great, it is unique, and it is cheap.

Obviously you won't be making buildings like that, but my point is that this type of building takes advantages of the medium's strengths rather than highlighting its weaknesses. This is what the best laser cut buildings do in my opinion. It doesn't make the piece structurally weak, it adds a nice aesthetic touch that is consistent with the overall theme of the piece, it isn't a detail that can be easily added in a different medium, and the slots look small enough to not look really wonky if you can't get paint onto all of the interior surfaces.

We are aiming to open our shop by the end of August / beginning of September and will let you know as soon as everything works ok.
once a laser cut building gets up to the $50+ range

We're not going to be even close to that. That why at the beginning we want to use MDF/HDF/stiff cardboard. For example the hab should be around $10, if you buy in a bundle of 3 it should be around $27.
Honestly I think the highest price point we are going to get is around $35.
MDF terrain generally competes on price. It is fill your table terrain, not make everyone jealous terrain.

Yes we understand that but we strive to make nice buildings for a reasonable price, so you get the best of the both worlds.
Those pillars...aint gonna last long freestanding like that

That's why we make prototypes first - the final building will have some sort of strengthening around those pillars.
One of my absolute favorite laser cut buildings is this building from 4Ground

Yes that is a nice building but I wonder about transportation and storage though, it looks a bit on the fragile side of things.

As they say in latin 'de gustibus non est disputandum' so everyone has they favorites.

Thank you for such a long answer it really helps us to get better at what we do. I urge everyone to post such in depth thoughts, we want to involve you in the stuff we do. Remember we are gamers as well.

Soon we will post the pictures of barrack model which is our most detailed to date - and as it was a prototype it took couple of hours and swearing to assemble - that's why it got a complete overhaul.
It looks almost the same as the prototype but will be much, much easier to assemble. We will post pictures of the new design along with the prototype.

I was worried the 4Ground building would be fragile as well, but at 20 bucks I figured it was worth a shot. It is more delicate than my other buildings, but it holds up remarkably well.

My terrain tends to get put through lots of abuse. Between drunk players and frequent setup changes/transportation the terrain pieces take quite a few knocks. But that's fine in my opinion. Terrain is for playing, and if it gets played with, it is going to suffer some rough handling. It is inevitable. You should be able to drop a terrain piece on the floor, pick it up, keep playing with it, and fix it later with some glue.

We do have long term plans to go into most popular scales (I think maybe only 6mm is outside of HDF cutting possibilities) so please stay tuned.
