Soooooooooooo.... There I was last night, contemplating what next to do on the Cathedral/Chapter house big builds and in searching for a bit opened the box of all my spare Manufactorum parts. And, being the procrastinator that I am, got a bit side tracked in thinking how I could put them together. I could have gone for weird, octagonal buildings, but then thought sod it - let's just do a "traditional" build, you know, with regular right angles and everything. And it might not take long to do, and I might even paint it!
So, here, with customary white tak, are some rough WIP pics. Whadda you think??

It looks as though you glued it together with marshmallows. My only thought is to perhaps put a small platform near the top, for Illic or an Imperial Assassin.

@ monkeytroll - nope, this is it - no stupidly large building this time - it's all going to fit on one movement tray, and I am not buying anymore parts for it. Honest!
@ SBG - lol, if I had any marshmallows around I'd have eaten the damn things by now.. As for platforms, I should point out there will be floors/ceilings, just need to work out what tiles I need for the other builds before I put them in. Ideally there will be the main building roof, then a more ruined one for the "administrative" (I.e. window'd second floor) section, and then a final tile perched right at the top. That's the plan, anyway

Run! Run whilst you can! And never turn back!
Seriously dude. Walk away while you can - 3 massive-ass buildings are coming your way (well two are well and truly your way already ) Automatically Appended Next Post: On the other hand you could just ignore that ^^ and go hell for leather
Layout looks okay - are there going to be floor tiles or have they all been cut at funny angles and submitted to an everlasting service as part of the cathedral(s)?

Seriously Brother Payne?! You expect me to stop now I've started? You should know me better than that by now...
Not much visible progress as yet I'm afraid, mostly been shaving mould lines (again) and gluing a few walls together. Amazes me how such a "straightforward" build can still turn out to cause headaches though - obviously these kits were NOT designed to be put together as 'intact' buildings- looks like I'll have a few issues with fitting floors/ceiling tiles in place. Hey HO, started now, going to see it through...
Anyway, a quick WIP to show there will be floors - not all the tiles are designated for the main builds (thankfully).
I really hate early stage pics, really don't do the vision in my head justice!

yep, correct on both counts. However, the big builds are taking sooooo long I just wanted to do something 'quick' (haha - for me that means a few weeks rather than years....) and 'easy' (which for me means still frustratingly annoying - see below)
Brother Payne wrote:Hey at least this one might get painted soon(ish)! Much better angle (imo) in this update. Looks good.
paint eta I think might be around mid September!
So, some updates. Lots of prep - have I ever mentioned I HATE mould lines? - and walls are getting glued. Also have glued the main floor plate - now, GW really doesn't appear to like people building intact buildings, at least those with interesting shapes, as getting floor plates to fit together doesn't always work - spot the gap:
So, thankfully the gap is the exact same size/shape as the edge of a floor tile - handily, as I rarely throw anything away, I had one pre-cut from one of my 'stasis chamber' walls (see my other terrain thread if you don't know what I'm talking about):
Glued in place the floor plate is complete and unless you know what you're looking for, you'd probably never notice it:
Of course, to my eye it stands out a mile, as the floor plates between the two sections of the building no longer line up. But thankfully the upper story walls effectively block you from noticing that! My OCD can just shut up...
Mind you, putting an upper story on isn't that straightforward either. You'd think it was, but no. Specifically the door leading to the main roof - the gap between the floor tiles isn't quite big enough to sit a wall piece in.... Sigh.... Which meant a frustrating 15mins or more of cutting/filing out a small bit of the doors footprint:
So that it can fit over the raised edge of the floor tile:
Thankfully that's the only bit of that floor level that needed adjusting - the 'observation' room at the top of the building will be a different story (or should that be storey? ) but I've not got there - yet.. Anyway, here's a pic of the building as it now stands:
One other bit of progress has been on the pipe I wanted coming out of the ground into the building by the main door - I figure it's a water or fuel intake or somesuch - needed to make a few amendments to the standard pipes in the kit - a before and after type pic first:
And then an in situ pic of what the final piece will (probably) look like:
As ever, thanks for stopping by - comments and critiques always welcome. Also suggestions on the paint scheme - I was toying the with idea of green and cream to keep it in theme with the other builds, more emphasis on the green tho - but then I might use this on a mechanicus themed board in the distant future - in which case red would seem more appropriate..... Decisions decisions...!
More at some point

Well, what kind of weirdo builds intact buildings anyway....srely you need to ruins to forge proper narratives?
Looking good so far, nice fitting of the awkward pieces.
I'd vote red for fitting in with the gigantic Mechanicus facility you know you want to build......

@Warboss: you forget that I'm insane. And really hate mould lines. Even the ones you'll never be able to see...
@monkeytroll: this kind of weirdo! And anyway, the building is partly ruined... And NO - I am NOT building a giant bloody industrial complex!!
well, ok.... Not yet....
Small update today, but it's taken bloody ages to craft - a few amendments to the rule/water pipe - felt it needed a better base than just connecting with the paving slabs, so have built a 'drain cover' type affair:
This involved cutting down a 'vent' floor/ceiling tile, and then carefully cutting/filing down four movement tray corners until they fitted flush together with it - damned time consuming! Aldo had to remove an additional section of the down pipe, which was recycled onto the end of the intake nozzle:
If you look very closely , you'll see I also added four small nuts cut from a spare Shrine of the Aquila wall onto the circular bits on the intake nozzle - thought this looked better than leaving them bare. Although skulls would have worked to I suppose - but this is more in keeping with the industrial feel!
One day I really must learn to just make a simple, no nonsense, straight out of the box type building.....

Lol thanks Warboss_Waaazag - as long as what I'm doing keeps even a few interested/inspired/whatever then I suppose I'll keep on posting - so welcome on board DukeBadham (and don't forget to check out the Cathedral, ifyou haven't already...)
Just a small update today - some sad events in RL have meant I've not had huge amounts of time to spend on my projects but what can you do...
So anyway, have been cleaning up some of the smaller parts today, balustrades etc, and gluing some more of the wall sections (mostly at corner junctions) together. And then it hit me - the previous design didn't make a lot of sense in terms if game play (nit that I actually play it has to be said, but if anyone ever does on thus...) the ground floor, although having a windowed 'office' end is relatively open, the actual 'workshop' area was too enclosed. So I've decided to swap a couple of the walls over, so now the ground floor door is at the end of e building, allowing a clear line of sight from one side to the other, plus allowing a bit more light through the building:
However, this did mean the ceiling had to be redesigned slightly too, in order to make moe sense with ventilation:
(Ok, I didn't have to redo the ceiling, but I wanted to )
Also have been doing some work on the top floor 'lookout' mini tower - getting walls to fit has been a bugger, but am reasonably happy with the way it's turning out - gives lots of levels for models, and the broken hatch right on top is a nice touch

Haha - so true Monkeytroll, so true.... Although it'd be more accurate to say "and so it finishes" - for lo, the build (aside for some post painting assembly) is complete!
Having worked on the final detailing, such as applying Eagle buttressing for stability, and patiently gluing on countless bloody rivets to wall girders, I therefore give you the final building in all it's pre-painted glory:
But, because me being me, what you actually get is two buildings in one, as the upper floors will remain fully detachable:
(All I'd need to do is get some more upper wall pieces to fit round the top to finish that off...)
And also will have a detachable roof so that the interior of the ground floor can be accessed as well:
So, hopefully, the next update will, shock horror, involve....... Paint......

Hahaha.... Yeah, I know, a first for me OneManNoodles! But then I always envisioned this as a small scale, short (by my standards) project, so I'm happy with the way it's turned out and the timescale (so far)...
Colour scheme... Not sure on the exterior yet, still debating red or green, but I'll be doing the interior first I think, which will be based on the Cathedral dirty white/cream - with added grime, of course!

Wow - good job on not getting distracted.....yet (you may still find something when you're adding those final bits).
And two for the price of one...colour me suitably impressed
OK, so as it does really look like it's paint next...have you decided on a scheme for it? I still vote red for the inevitable complex that will eventually materialise....well, ok, maybe not materialise exactly, but you get the idea.....

Oh, don't worry OneManNoodles, I've been scouring the net for inspiration, although surprisingly there AREN'T as many examples out there as I thought there would be (at least, other than dull monochrome dry brush examples....)
And no it bloody won't MT. I've got a sodding great Cathedral and Chapter House to finish first, thank you very much! And THEN one (or possibly two) Armies on Parade to complete!

I hate not having time to work on my project(s). A very brief update:
Walls are coming along; happy with the dirty white (rough initial on the right, to final on the left) but the metallics are a bugger to paint and still need lots of work. Also thought I'd go for an orange/red/terracotta floor - I quite like how it's turned out on the test piece in the picture, just not sure if I want to do the checkerboard look or have a uniformed feel... Thought?
