I put this here because I feel as though it is the best place.

After playing a few proxy games with Horus Heresy rules I've decided to collect a legion. Because I'm chaos4life with a dislike of anything loyalist the two legions I most want to play as are the Iron Warriors.

Both are armies which I like. The Death Guard are footslogging who take a punch and give one back, plus I also like morty and his lovely rules.

On the other hand I'm also a fan of the Iron Warriors. Being able to deepstrike turn one with Terminators armed with cyclone missiles is awesome, plus I've never had an army which relies on blowing things up at range.

Help me Obi-Wan Dakka. You are my only hope.

I'd go for IW personally prefer their colour scheme and fluff.

The only way you can pick a legion is with your heart, I know it sounds stupid but don't start a legion unless you love every aspect of a legion.

I am a through in through out son of dorn and always will be. But I still want to do ultramarine's and salamanders lol

I've not played with Death Gaurd, so I can't speak for them, but Iron warriors are great, a wall of dakka followed by a disorganized charge is chuckles all round (provided you use the hammer of olympia rite). Not to mention the free extra armour on tanks and walkers is a great bonus. From what I can tell, Death guard clearly reward footslogging infantry mobs and Iron warriors tell you to bring the big guns (but you can kinda do this with death guard as well). Ultimately each legion is the same army at its core, with each one enhanced by special rules and units from each legion, so you can kinda go with anything provided you don't pick one of the more restrictive legions (which it looks like death guard can be).

All of this said, I'm not going to recommend either army, I'd say go with World Eaters. Honestly, I played with a friends, and holy carp are they fun. Seriously, their special units are IMO some of the most fun I've ever played with, and angron is an absolute monster. But if you really want one of the two, join the Iron warriors, being all nurgle-y isn't hygienic man.

Death Guards only for having the FW models. Iron Warriors because is Iron Warriors.

That's my biggest problem. I love the deathshroud and the Grave Warden models. Plus I'm a massive nurgle fan anyway. Has anyone played with the Iron Warriors yet?

Isn't the preheresy death guard color scheme pretty much pure off-white? Make sure you understand what it means to paint a large foot slogging army of white power armor before you decide. Especially next to the iron "silver with a black wash" warriors.

Pre Morty it is White with Red right arms and shoulder pads. Post Morty is it unpainted ceramite with jade colouring. Post Nurgle is good old fashioned Nurgle Green.
