Hi all,

I don't know if this is the right section for this and I did search first with no results. I also don't want to start a flame war about the rights or wrongs of CHS vs GW.

Anyway, does anyone know if there is a shop (bricks and mortar or online) where I can but ChapterHouse Studio items from in the UK? I don't really want to buy direct from CHS in the US because I'll get stung by customs. I could buy and have shipped to a cousin in New Mexico to repack and post to me here but that's a last resort as I'm not sure I want to "come out" as a 40k geek to that particular cousin…

Your comments and advice are appreciated

Not that I've seen.

Email them. The more interest there is, the more likely it'll happen.

But, if CHS ever steps foot in the UK, I expect GW to throw everything at them. See the lawsuit threads.

I've bought from them direct, and the cost does add up, yeah.

Thanks dude. When your order arrived did the post office hold it and make you go pay their silly handling fees and import tax costs?? This is a problem I have when ordering t-shirts from sites like teefury etc, where it's actually cheaper to buy two shirts separately and pay the shipping costs twice than to order two together, put them in one package and then pay import duty + post office £8 handling charge because the total package value went over some arbitrary value.

I've had three orders direct from them, 1 picked up by customs, so the odds appear to be in the buyers favour.

You could always ask Nick to declare it as a gift on the customs form? It wouldn't be fair to expect it, but couldn't hurt to ask.

Nope, they just kept them back as 'too big for the letterbox' and handed them over.
But being small boxes, I assume they just get waived through.

I was also going to suggest asking it to be marked as "gift", somebody beat me to it but that's normally a way around it.

Marking it as a gift makes little if any difference. There are still customs charges applied to gifts.

Non-gift limit is £15 for no VAT/customs charge, £15-135 for VAT only, and £135+ for customs charge and VAT.

Gift limit £36 for no VAT, customs charge and VAT on anything over £135 just the same as non-gifts.

Anything stopped by customs will have the £8 Royal Mail tax added on as well.

I say this every time one of these comes up, people really need to report the Royal Mail to the Competitions and Markets Authority (https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/competition-and-markets-authority) and to OfCom (http://www.ofcom.org.uk/) The £8 that the Royal mail charge is an absurdly large amount for the shipping and handling of international mail, even assuming that the Royal Mail get nothing from the international shipper (something I doubt) then the most they should charge is the cost of sending the mail within the UK, this would be closer to £4.

It is blatant profiteering based on the fact that we the customer have no choice in who handles our international mail.

Of cause as with most things, it is only illegal if someone reports it so the Royal Mail gets away with it as nobody bothers to report it to these organisations that are there ot protect you. Filling in a report takes around 5 minutes, and if enough people did it the Royal Mail would be forced to change it’s charges.

I can't imagine ordering from Chapterhouse if I had Forgeworld in my country!

I have never been happy with the items I received from Chapterhouse.

Which begs the questions,

What did they say when you contacted them about it?
and
Why keep ordering from them?

I know somebody that uses Chapterhouse Terminator parts - they look just fine in person. The torso bits in particular give the figures some real character.

And Forgeworld is very much available here.

If I were still playing then I would be quite happy to own several squads of the Chapterhouse jet bikes. As it is, I have two bikes painted up and weathered - I just plain like the Gothic look of those models. Maybe someday I will find a way to use them for steampunk. (A plan that involves adding wheels....)

So, yeah... the only reason I can see for not being able to imagine wanting Chapterhouse when Forgeworld is available is someone with a very limited imagination.

Forgeworld is better quality - but it is also better quality than GW.

Chaperhouse, for the bits and bikes that I have seen, are on a par with GW - and better than Finecast.

*EDIT* And the Gladiator suit makes a very nice impression next to a Dreamforge Crusader - they share a certain number of design features.

I'm looking for different razorback turrets and just happen to like the Chapterhouse ones. Yes I have easy access to forge world and already have plenty of forge world bits and bobs through my collection but I just fancy some of the CH bitz too.

Thanks for responses boys and girls, I shall certainly be trying to report Royal Mail for being thieving charlatans as I will probably now have two parcels to collect for customs charges soon (just placed a large t-shirt order from www.teepublic.com, they have a sale on, even spotted some 40k themed shirts there if you really don't feel dorky enough yet!) - note by large t-shirt order, I mean lots of t-shirts, not an order of large t-shirts. There's no way I would fit into a Large unless they invent some kind of spray on fabric
