hey guys (and gals?) here's the list:

HQ: 215pts
Farseer: jetbike, spirit stones 130pts (warlord goes with jetbikes)
Warlock: jetbike 50pts (goes with jetbikes)
Warlock 35pts (goes with guardians)

Elites: 210pts
5x Wraithguard: d-scythes 210pts (goes in a waveserpent)

Troops: 346pts
5x Dire Avengers 65pts (goes in a waveserpent)
20x guardians: 2x bright lance platforms 220pts
3x jetbikes: shuriken cannon 61pts

Fast Attack: 245pts
Crimson Hunter Exarch: 2x bright lances 180pts
Vyper: shuriken cannon, starcannon 65pts

Heavy Support:540pts
Fire Prism: holofields140pts
Wraithknight 240pts
Wraithlord: 2x bright lances, 2x flamers 160pts

Transports: 290pts
2x Wave Serpent: TL scatter lasers, shuriken cannon, holofields 290pts

Total 1846pts

So is this list competitive? I want to be able to take this list against any opponent and have a fighting chance at victory! Any suggestions? Here are other models that I have to work with:
mawr guardians
another vyper jetbike
2 more farseers (with witchblades)
eldrad
avatar
asurmen
4 more warlocks (with singing spears)
9 striking scorpions with exarch
6 more dire avengers + exarch
8 dark reapers + exarch with missile launcher
and all of my weapons are magnetized except for the the underslung shuriken cannons (every single one of them)

Btw I just bought a battleforce and a wraithknight so I actually have all of the models needed for this army. I am only missing one old metal support weapon platform (The heavy support option one) to mount my warlock on as a jetbike. If anyone has one of these they aren't using please pm me or comment and maybe we can work something out?

Its not highly competitive, but against all but the top tier lists youll have that fighting chance. Sadly you dont have all the models to make an 1850 highly competitive list; although you did well with what you have.

Vyper is absolute waste. I would trade in the vyper and the guardian warlock for a far seer on foot to buff that squad.

what models would I need to make it more competitive? More jetbikes? Also I feel that shrouded would be pretty good for the unit if they can get onto an objective in cover or something

I think warp spiders and war walkers are great additions to consider

2 more wave serpents, another wraith knight, and 3-9 more jet bikes. Having the shrouding can be good, but not quite so good as another farseer. Fortune if you get it, or invisibility are 10x better, and lets you get another 2 (3+ primarius) powers in addition.

I don't know much about Ulthwe and have only played a really small game but maybe you could add Ghostglaives on the wraithlords its only an extra 10 points. If you have 10 points spare after your adjustments (if you make any) you could spend it on the wraithlords.

If you don't have something useful to say do to say anything at all.

Well, its not really an Ulthwe themed army.
Such an army should be heavily based on Guardians.

I have 23 (the jetbike riders count). I feel like until a supplement comes out for ulthwe its going to be hard to make a competitive themed ulthwe army unless it's just build around a seerstar

Wraithguard and Dire Avengers are not really part of a typical Ulthwe army.

I feel like dire avengers being the most common aspect will probably have a presence on ulthwe and the wraithguard are staying because I love them lol they and their d-scythes are way to destructive for me not to field in every game I play. Also there's an ulthwe color scheme for wraithguard in the codex so there's that.

You know what though, the title I put on the thread is asking for opinions and I appreciate yours. I guess it would be more fluffy if I swapped at least the dire avengers, vyper and wraithlord for some guardians with a heavy weapon to go into the waveserpent and some dark reapers (I think ulthwe and dark reapers are a thing)

As you know, Ulthwe fields Black Guardians, better trained with higher BS.
Yeah, I'd drop the DA for 10 Guardians. A heavy weapon is not really required. Their shuricats can do serious damage.

Black guardians used to be amazing. The reason I stopped playing about 8 or so years ago was because I was building an ulthwe army with MSU black guardians with heavy weapon platforms and then they brought out a new codex and I had essentially wasted all my time because you needed 10 guardians to a platform and not 5. Now all guardians are 'black' guardians, well not really but they all have bs 4.

Ulthwé is not "competitive" within, so you max face a big challenge. That said, you current list depicts rather an Iyanden force. Try to build around multiple Guardian squads (storm as well as defenders) with a Warlock each, Dark Reapers, Guardian-staffed vehicles and at least one Farseer. A Seerstar on bikes is at least debatable, as some Farseers are known to never ride on a Jetbike due to their dignity.

Ya I realize that a totally fluffy ulthwe list isn't competitive but army is already mostly painted in ulthwe colors and I'm trying to win games so I'm cutting corners on the fluff. If I were to have just started with eldar I probably would have painted them in iyanden or saim hann colors. Even Biel tann (I think they were the aspect warriors count as troops army) would have been good because they'll probably be the next eldar craftworld to get a supplement since it will make players go out and buy expensive aspect warriors.

I don't think I'll be using storm guardians as I just don't see their purpose. And also the fact that the storm guardians are an extra $22 upgrade that only has enough parts to build 8 storm guardians (min squad comp is 10) is too much of an inconvenient piss off to bother. Do you think splitting my foot guardians into 2 squads of 10 would be better than 1 squad of 20?

You can play with both 20 or 2*10, however, you have to dedicate quite a bit more to make it count - either mobile squads via Serpent or one foot - which enabled you to have even more squads because you save on the Serpents. What you want to do is investing in warp charges, easily done with 2 Farseers and a few (or my be even 10?) Warlocks at 1850 points, because that's where your advantage will be most of the times.

Since there are no "black guardians" anymore I don't see any sort of fluff issue with using DA's at their points and start line, slapping an Ulthwe paint scheme on them and calling them black guardians.

Hey! That's a pretty cool idea! *goes and gets a bottle of simple green*. I painted my avengers when I was like 12 anyways and they need a new paint job. I was looking forward to doing the avengers in that nice blue white scheme that they have on the box but I like the idea of a black guardians (although painting them the usual ulthwe colors wont be as fun)

The friend who gave me the idea and I both like the end effect of layering Ulthwe colors over the traditional DA color scheme, try it out on one before you soak them all.

Something I'm currently debating is how to utilize 20 Guardians and having Wyverns on the table. They absolutely shred units like Guardians. With your build, you also only have LD8 in the unit. If you don't face Wyverns, then carry on. I've used 20 Guardians, 2 Brightlances sitting with the ADL/Icarus and cast things like Perfect Timing and Prescience to help create a reasonable anti tank firebase.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.
