My Imperial Guard list is getting a little better, somebody suggest I add an Inquisitor attachment to muscle up my infantry. I thought I'd look into doing that, which kind of works out fluff wise since I've been doing nothing but fighting my friends Nurgle Daemons. I've looked in the Inquisitor codex and looked at a few different things but it's just not clicking in my head. How do you attach them to your army? Any recommendation on how to make them the most effective? I looked on games-workshop and they didn't have any actual troops listed for the Inquisition so I assume it's not as easy as bringing a space marine detachment.

Drive closer! I want to hit them with my sword!

The cool thing about Inquisitors is that you arn't required to bring any 'troop' options (the Henchmen are actually Elite slot, but you see the point I'm driving at); so you can bring an Inquisitor to add value to your army.

For instance, I you run blob squads with priests for that CC tarpit, you can add a xenos inqusitor with Rad and Psychoke grenades and the 'scout book' relic, to add some nice buffs to the squad.

It really depends on the composition of your army as to what would be 'best' to take, but there's loads of options.

The Inquisition have only 2 unit selections which are the Inquisitors themselves and the Inquisitorial henchmen which count as an Elite choice. When taking a Inquisitorial detachment the Inquisition gets special dispensation in that technically you can take a detachment that consists of 1 model (the inquisitor).

There are a couple ways you can use the Inquisition to buff up your IG and the best place to start is the Inquisitor itself, they're a fairly cheap way to add Divination to any army which is almost universally useful. Or given your Daemon enemy you could use either form of daemonology. Malefic would let you summon your own daemons to battle his while sanctic would give you some neat tools to use against the jolly green puss bags.

Most people don't mess with WH Inquisitors as their options are focused mostly towards psykers which can be usefull but isn't army wide usefull. DH Inquisitors can be fairly beefed up especially against daemons and they're the only Inquisitor that can buy a Inv save (by buying TDA), items like the Hellrifle and Incinerator are good for range but nothing beats a good old fashioned Daemon Hammer to a Heralds face. Most people I know don't take Daemonblades as they're unreliable in which buffs you get. XH Inquisitors probably have the most goodies being able to kit for range (conversion beamer) or CC (psykotroke and rad grenades, hammerhand). There are only 3 relics for Inquisitors to take but I'd recommend 2, going against Daemons the Grimoir of True names could be usefull while otherwise the Tomb of Vethric can give you some pretty useful abilities against xenos. No matter which Ordo you take I'd buy 3 servo skulls.

Also as a note if you take the Inquisitorial detachment as your primary then your Inquisitor can be your Warlord and each has the chance of getting 1 of 3 shared Warlord traits or 1 of 3 traits specific to each ordo. If you want to punch those deep striking daemons in the face as soon as they arrive take Coteaz, his rules allows his unit to shoot at enemy units arriving from reserve within 12" of coteaz and he also makes Henchmen troops!

I'll use that to transition into the henchmen which are so customizable it's not even funny. You can take a squad kitted for cc which should be a mix of Assassins and Crusaders with maybe a flagellant or 2 as a meatshield. A ranged support squad of Gun Servitors and Jokaero (generally don't take more than 2) but keep the Inquisitor with the Servitors or there is a chance they'll mind lock. The buffs from the Jokaero can be pretty usefull, I once got the buff that adds +1S and Rending to a ranged weapon which made my OX Conversion Beamer into a beam of enemy tears.

Daemonhosts can be fun for the randomness but if you want something reliable leave them at home. Same goes for a Mystic unless your gravchuting into the game. I haven't used psykers myself but generally I hear most people don't use them as you'd have to take a squad of 10 to get the best use. If you are taking a cc henchmen squad I'd seriously recommend taking a priest as their Hymns can seriously tip the balance. When it comes to customization Acolytes fit the bill, similar to guardsmen except that they can have anything from power armor to plasma guns.

I'd also recommend looking into the various Inquisition tacticas floating around.

Thanks for the run-through, pretty much made it clear that I should add one, especially since my friend has a LOT of nasty daemons to throw at me. I did order a few things from GW the other day, got a priest, some psykers, one or two other things and an acolyte. I might stand-in the acolyte as my inquisitor and fluff it that he's an inquisitor in training or something like that.
