Lokking at a fairly elite army, utilising Arkhan to keep the army ticking rather than simply spamming units.

Not bad, but i Would drop a single unit, of varghesti or Archai for 2 Bolttrower, and drop 2 charriot for 2 unit of arcer Horsemen

1. what bolt throwers you are referring to?
2. what purpose do the archer horseman serve in the list?

You need more chaff. Any list based on summoning wants enough chaff to get to turn 4 to cover a weak magic phase or two.

Crypt Horrors make awesome cannon back stoppers for the Mortarchs.

The aim was to use either war kittys or archai as cannon blockers, using arkhan to keep them ticking.

appreciate the usefulness of chaff but i can raise that rather than commit army points to it no?

Zombies are 60 points for 20.
Spirit Hosts are 45 each.
Dire Wolves are 40 a unit.
Fell Bats are 32 a unit.

When Arkhan summons, you're making 100 points to 400 points. Choosing to make a chaff unit instead of maximizing your summons is a waste of points.
Buy chaff. Summon real units.

As for Cannon Blockers, Archai are skirmishing and will have a 1/2" gap between them. Nagash's base is twice as wide, and deeper than the Morghasts. Most cannons will be able to angle around the morghasts. For the cost of the 8 Vargheists, you could get ~10 crypt horrors. That's 6 wounds worth of cannon stopping with 5+ regenerate; much better than the sphinx.

Whilst i fully agree that crypt horrors are a better cannon blocking due to regen, using them this way forces arkhan to slow down in order to stay behind his screen.

I'm really not sure about this list. the undead range has some fantastic models across both VC and TK, i'm just not sure i want to dump the initial money to get the list, THEN have to buy a similar amount again to make it worth taking the Mortarch.

Not when i have multiple 40k and hobbit armies on the go as well.

Maybe i should just go back and tweek my ogres for triple stonehorn fun.

You really only want a turn or two behind the screen. After that, you should have dire wolves, fell bats, carrion, skeleton fast cav, hexwraiths, mortarchs or varghiests all over his warmachines. Seriously, Undead is possibly the most loaded list with solutions for cannons. Hell, advancing behind the crypt horror wall, and charging into the backfield turn 2 is totally doable.

I'd still swap out 1 sphinx for 3x2 fellbats (98 points total), and 2x1 spirit hosts (90 points).

Fell bats fly. Hosts are ethereal. They are all dirt cheap and expendable. Basically, I'm saying take 5 more units in exchange for 1 less monster.
