Subject: [1500] - What is the best tyranid list for tournaments?

I think I am going to start playing Tyranids, so I want to find out what the standard tournament lists look like. So far, I have understood that Winged Hive Tyrants, Tervigons and Carnifexes are really good.

Tervigons used to be good - not anymore.
The formations are really good, but that depends on what your meta is allowing.
For non-formation allowing Tournaments would probably run:
Hive Tyrant
-Wings
-Twin Linked Devourers with BLW
-Twin Linked Devourers with BLW
-Electroshock Grubs
Hive Tyrant
-Wings
-Twin Linked Devourers with BLW
-Twin Linked Devourers with BLW
-Electroshock Grubs
Termagants x10
Termagants x10
Malanthrope
Zoanthrope
Zoanthrope
Carnifexes x2
-Twin Linked Devourers with BLW x2
-Twin Linked Devourers with BLW x2
Carnifexes x2
-Twin Linked Devourers with BLW x2
-Twin Linked Devourers with BLW x2
Mawloc
-Adrenal Glands
This comes to 1500 exactly. If formations are allowed, it may be worth looking into Living Artillery, or building a Skyblight army.
I have also included a link to the Tyranids Tactics Dakka forum for you so you can seek advice there.

Was honestly going to post the same list^ personally, I think it needs more troops, just depends on your play style really!
72 S6 shots, Mawloc, and Malanthrope, what more can you want?

What do you think about taking the Malanthrope out for some more troops, more exactly either Gargoyles, a gakload of Termagants, or even some Hormagaunts? I find this list not very good at scoring objectives late game.

Not a bad plan...except that Shrouding is a "must have" vs Alpha strikes. Me? I'd give serious thought to dropping the Mawloc, and adding two Broods of Hormagaunts...and I really like Mawloc.

That is a fair comment. You could take pinecones advice, however I have run another list that may be of interest to you, used it in a local tournament and did quite well (considering I had never been to a tournament before ever). Sadly I have no batreps to show, but the list was 'anti-meta' of sorts.
Primary Detachment:
Hive Tyrant w/ Wings, TL Devourers with BLW x2, Electroshock Grubs (240)
Hive Tyrant w/ Wings, TL Devourers with BLW x2, Electroshock Grubs (240)
3 Ripper Bases w/ Deep Strike (45)
3 Ripper Bases w/ Deep Strike (45)
Malanthrope (85)
Skyblight Formation:
Hive Tyrant w/ Wings, TL Devourers with BLW x2, Electroshock Grubs (240)
Gargoyles x10 (60)
Gargoyles x10 (60)
Gargoyles x10 (60)
Harpy w/ Stranglethorn Cannon (135)
Harpy w/ Stranglethorn Cannon (135)
Hive Crone (155)
Comes to 1500 exactly. The Rippers work outside Synapse and just sit on an Objective all game long, being naturally Fearless, the opponent has to kill them all if he wants an objective.
The Gargoyles are also OS thanks to the formation special rules and when a unit dies, they come back on a 4+.
Lastly, the list is extremely mobile with 6 FMC's flying around that can be doing what they do best, then on turn 5, go into Glide mode and claim some more objectives.

I can't see anything about shrouding in the Anphelion Project, but I see that it says that you have to include a ripper swarm as well, so with that I have to drop something for that. Also, what is Alpha strikes?
The list I'm looking at right now is the following.
Hive Tyrant

I will be looking into the flyer formation as soon as I finish this first list. Looks real interesting.

Pretty sure no need of Rippers to take a Malanthrope. "Alpha Strike" refers to a high volume of shots first time shooting attack. Alpha being the first letter of the greek alphabet.

Not much to add..."Shrouding" is a effect that both Venothropes, and Malanthropes have, basicly a 6" bubble that gives a bonus to cover. Alpha strike is a "build strategy" the most common form is the fearsome drop pod army, the stratagem is to put out an overwhelming wall of firepower straight off that lets you cripple your enemies force.
Done right it should give First Blood, and often Warlord as well. Drop pods tend to use lots of Meltas, and a few Flammers, and are extra good at harming Tyranids, because we tend to depend on MCs. The other common Space marine build uses Grav weapons, and is equally fierce. Tau, and Eldar use it, heck any list can build around the idea. But it is most popular for Space Marines.
Our standard counter is to set up so that everything on the board has a piece of itself within the Shrouding bubble, and is ideally in Ruins for a very good Cover save.(blocking line of sight helps too) The most extreme form of this counter is to buy a Fortification for a "Veno in a box" (or a Mali in the box...) For Tournament play, this sort of thing is nessisary to consider.

The Malanthrope can give all of your flyers a 2+ Jink before they can get in the air and then the gargoyles/rippers can gain shrouded if they choose to go near him!

Now as the two new models have leaked, do you recommend taking the maleceptor instead of the two Zoanthropes?

Too soon to say, I really like Zoeys, so it will need to be pretty awesome to change my mind... One note on the list given, is that the two Zoeys are in separate Broods, that gives 2 extra WC, and two extra Powers of the Hive Mind! (one is the primarus) And it allows for two Synapse bubbles.
