Hi all

Not sure if this is where I should post this but are old bloods on a carnosaur worth taking? If so what is the best way to equip them?

This belongs in either WHFB Tactis or WHFB Background and general discussions (probably the first), if this is your first time posting I recommened reading the rules as to, but you should also move/delete this post or else mods will do it for you (the delete part that is)
On a side not, that makes for a powerful general in large games, vut anything under ~2500 you won't make a proper list. Personally I recommand putting him on a cold one in a group of 8+, as you want those extra points going towards your megatoad

A lot of people have had luck with dual Carnosaurs. They take Blood Road and Loping Strider on both, and go fairly cheap on the gear for the characters.
Forcing terror tests on the worst 2 out of 3D6 the plan. With the Loping Strider upgrade, the effective charge range averages ~15", though you can force terror tests at 19" out.

The thing with Carnosaurs is to make sure you end up in a flank, or in a challenge. You don't want rank and file swinging at you, as the Carnosaur isn't tough enough to grind it out.

The vast majority of Lizardmen players say that Cold One Knights are not worth their points. WS, I, M, and Stupidity are all pretty significant drawbacks, compared to other cavalry and other Lizardmen choices.

1. 8 Cold Ones don't cost much less than a Carnosaur. 2. Slann aren't the auto-include they used to be. I see more lists running Skink Priests for some basic magic defense and an Old Blood for the General.

At S7 and D3 wounds, Carnosaurs are absolutely incredible against elite targets. With their T and saves, they're terrible against a lot of rank-and-file and shooting/magic. They need to get into combat fast, but they need to choose their combats carefully.
I think the best way to run a Carnosaur is with other monsters and lots of chaff. Skink Skirmishers, Terradons, Stegs, and the like.

Competitive Carnosaur builds tend to make the most out of the Blood Roar upgrade that forces Terror tests on 3D6, discarding the highest. There is a Lizardmen player on a prominent forum that had lots of success running a dual Carnosaur list at a tournament, similar to what HawaiiMatt speaks of.

However, if you want to run a "fun" and "themed" Old Blood on Carnosaur that will kick ass and takes names, I've found that the Armour of Destiny and Dawnstone make for a pretty ridiculous combination with an Oldblood. 4+ Scaly Skin, +2 from the Armour of Destiny, +1 for being mounted - total of a 1+ armour save, re-rolling failures with the Dawnstone. Then you have a 4+ ward save also from the Armour of Destiny. The idea is that the Old Blood and Carnosaur attacks + Thunderstomp should munch through smaller units just fine, while the Carnosaur itself is the main damage dealer with Strength 7 and Multiple Wounds (D3). Extra items to taste would be some kind of magic weapon so a Spirit Host can't permanently tie you up, and possibly the Other Trickster's Shard so that ward saves don't stop your colossal killing machine.

Personally though, I'm not sure I would really call it competitive outside of larger games - outside of very certain lists that require a great player like the dual Carnosaur build, you really need a Slaan.

Well, the big thing about carnosaurs now is that taking one doesnt keep you from taking a slann. You can stick a scar vet on a carnosaur and keep your lord slot open for the toad wizard.

Guys, an old blood on carno costs more than 400 points, if you want to take a 2nd old blood or a slaan, this means you play at about 4000 points, in which case, these choices are very bad.

I'm just not seeing it. A Slann is going to cost even more than that guy, after all his upgrades and his bodyguard unit.
All you really need are a few lvl2's to see you through the fight.

That's not what people are saying. The point is that now you can run a Scar Veteran on a Carnosaur, too.

I'm planning on 2 level 2's (dispel scroll and cube of darkness), and going with undeath on both.
Being able to use the defensive skink shaman to summon chaff will help out the rest of the monster mash.

Call me old fashioned but I still prefer 2 priests rolling on beasts, or 1 beast 1 heavens. Though cube+scroll on 2 skinks is REALLY good
