Do any of the following Space Marine chapters not use/have bikes (according to the fluff)?

Imperial Fists
Blood Angels
Iron Hands
Salamanders
Raven Guard

Thanks.

The only army I know of that doesn't have bikes in some fashion are the Grey Knights. Salamanders fluff wise don't use Landspeeders though (they don't work on their planet because of the fluctuating gravity), but that's about it.

I believe Salamanders don't use bikes or speeders as much due to their inability to train with them because of Nocturne's climate and gravitational pull. Instead they use more Devastators and Terminators.

Sneak in power armor while wearing jump packs no less!

Just about every chapter will have some bikes. They may not use them very often, but they'll have them.

Tell the Dark Angels to stop hogging them and maybe you'd get them (or play a 30k army ).

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

I wish they had kept Space Marines on jetbikes and left ground bikes for the Imperial Guard. Horses just seems a little too far-fetched (with most IG regiments).

So Horses are where you draw the line, but not laser weapons, mutanted versions of humanity that look like Ogres or Hobbits, not the constant prayers to anything that looks like it might use a battery in case you offend it, not the use of long range artillery in close range combat, not the Daemons, not the need to jump through Hell itself to go FTL, not the tractors made into tanks, not the fact that Cadia somehow still has a growing population despite nearly every single person joining the Guard, not the intentional (or unintentional) mutations of the Space Marines, not the extra-galactic alien race, not the race that grows a whole community to include food and servants from spores, not the race of self repairing undead robot skeletons, not the space elves, not the space elves who are functionally immortal as long as they keep torturing others to live, not the race of intelligent technophiles who operate an elementally themed version of the Caste system from India who apparently can out invent the previously mentioned extragalactic threat's ability to evolve counter measures, ect?

So just to clear all that up, Horses was the point where they went too far?

Okay then. Someone needs to get Tom Kirby on the phone and tell him the Horses are apparently were we're drawing the line. They're just too preposterous.

(Less kidding note: I want Vostroyans to have BEARS to ride on instead)

Whoa whoa whoa there! The horse thing is just my opinion, I do not speak as the ultimate arbiter of 40k affairs. It goes in the same category as things like Logan Claws riding a hover sled. But again just my opinion.

Sheesh, need to be careful with posting without having an argument ready!

I was kidding. I guess the snark didn't carry across as well as I intended.

According to the last codex, Blood Angels have fewer bike squads because their assault marines prefer jump packs (something to do with Sanguinius' geneseed). It even says there is a stigma towards bikers. But in spite of this they do still have some bikes, and it notes that they are some of the most accomplished riders in the imperium (second only to the Ravenwing and Whitescars).

Horses are silly if you are intending to ride up and hit your opponent with a lance in a modern battlefield, but as a mode of battle transportation for conventionally armed troops its not a bad idea.

Horses don't need fuel as they can eat any local vegetation. They're also quieter and can cover ground that bikes cannot. Plus they don't need maintenance crew.

Basically what mobile infantry were before vehicles, Dragoons. You ride to a position, dismount, and fight on foot. Or fight mounted as a skirmishing and harassment force.

Horses don't potentially explode or burst into flames if they are shot either, and in a pinch you can eat the horse.

Horses are still used today by modern militaries, they're not too far fetched. They're much easier to maintain on a long trek through mountains than bikes.

Why do people keep saying this? They are very obviously based on WW:I tanks.
And do tractor translate to something else in my country? Because I see several tractors every day and I simply do not see the similarities.

I've never seen Blood Ravens using bikes int he games, which is great because I'm not a fan. I much prefer the jump infantry concept, though jet bikes would work if the Imperium used them. Other transports like landspeeers are more "suitable" imo for rapid deployment and fighting than bikes which always just seemed unworkable in general combat use to me. I can see why others like them, but I just can't.

I have 2 sets of DV bikes that I'll still probably do up for my Blood Ravens eventually. Hopefully I'll find a better use before then ; p

It usually doesn't, but IIRC the Germans actually masked their pre-WW II tank projects as development of agri tools.

And some of the less succesful early "tank" designs were in part or fully based on agri tractors.

Lol. Wasn't aware of that. Fun fact.

So it seems that Blood Angels, Raven Guard, and Salamanders have bikes but just don't use them often.

Follow up question, are scout bikes specifically not used by any of those chapters?

Because fluff wise the Leman Russ was a Tractor that they put guns (and probably armor) on (though that may have changed).

I don't believe it's changed. All the silliness is still there: Leman Russ tanks were based on STC tractors, Rhinos are based on STC ground transports for colonists, and Terminator armor is based on protective suits for working inside plasma reactors (in spite of plasma being one of the few things Terminator armor DOESN'T provide near-complete protection against).

Never understood why, in GW's grimdark universe, they felt the need to come up with peaceful origins for iconic weapon systems.
