This week I am going to show a new player how to play 40k, my opponent is going to be using my models because he decided to play astra militarum and that happens to be one of my armies. I wanted to show him the basics of the game and wanted to use as many different parts of the game as possible, so using templates, using psychic phase, troop transports. I will be using a space wolves list to try and show him the game.

This is the list:

CCS
Lascannon
carapace armor

Primaris
lvl 2

Veteran squad
missile launcher
carapace armor
Vox

Veteran squad
3x meltas
chimera
veteran sergeant w/ power weapon
commisar w/ power weapon
Vox

Basilisk

LRBT

The idea of this list is to cover as many different areas of the game as possible. Any ideas to help a new player would be greatly appreciated.

well, with teaching games, take your time, like a minimum of 3 games to cover everything, as to not overload him, if you have one, give him an Imperial knight, it teaches all phases but psychic, and some special rules. beyond that, this is a fine list, but take out the psyker, wait a bit to teach those rules, as he probably wont have any fro a long time playing IG

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

Making the first game as simple as possible is your best bet. A small game where the odds are stacked in his favor. Like the tutorial for a computer game (to an extent.) That's my opinion at least. Best of luck!

I remember my first game a buddy played me with his dark vengeance set. I was Dark angels and he let me win

That game really did ignite my interest in 40k.

It is commendable you are trying to make it easier for the new guy - this game needs more peeps like you.

There are few things more idiotic than grinding a newbie into the dust just because someone has played 1000 games. Believe it or not after 5 games I was having experienced players cheating they were so friggin afraid of losing ~ telling me some special rule they got to roll each time for armour + cover + invul + FnP saves, quickly rerolling failed morale checks, zoanthropes are T5 the list goes on.

This new guy has already bought the codex for AM and the rule book, he just doesn't have the models yet. We recommended playing a few games with the models before buying because AM can build multiple different lists and wanted him to test before buying. He was watching an apoc game of ours and I happened to be only player with AM army and lots of teaching experience.
