So I'm new to Warmachine/Hordes. I have fully committed to Retribution of Scyrah, but being a collector and wanting to have diversity I really want to start up a second faction as well. This has proven much harder than picking my original. Retribution just... spoke to me. The groups I've been trying to decide between are... A a Bradigus Thorle Circle force, an Epic Skarre Cryx force, an Ashlynn D'Elyse mercenary force, or a Protectorate of Menoth force led by Harbinger or Thyra... And I just can't seem to decide. Unlike Retribution where it all was very appealing in Aesthetic, Playstyle, etc. The others have things that draw me in, but also give me pause.

Like for Bradigus, I really like his model, plus the idea of a more golem centric Circle army appeals to me over their beasts.

For Skarre, I really like her rules, and theme, and have theorized lists I'd use, but don't see myself branching out to other aspects of Cryx.

Ashlynn I just really like the model, and rules. Most of the Mercenaries seem on the 'meh' side so I'm hard pressed to come up with what I'd put with her.

Protectorate of Menoth I just can't get past the Jacks. All the models look really cool to me, and the rules look like a lot of fun, but I just find most of their Warjacks are just... ugly.

People's thoughts on this? Recommendations or words of warning to help me narrow down force choice?

It sounds like you have thought it all out and just need to make a decision.

Good news is that a 35 point list isn't too expensive as far as gaming goes. And if like it you could sell it to get some of the money back.

You don't need to infest in a full faction. It's ok to want only a small section. What drew me to circle for example was the tharn, kromac and warpwolves. As such, most of what I own in circle is based around these. I'm not drawn too much to the rocks (though I have woldstalkers), Druids or the wolves of Orboros, and I find I do just fine.

Brad and golems? Go for it.
Skarre and limited cryx stuff you do like? Sure, go for it.
Ashlyn. You could run some cygnar units in highborn iirc. But if it doesnt speak to you, there's no point.
Menoth, but you don't like the jacks. Either spam infantry and go jack light or leave it.

If you want to avoid jacks in Menoth, I suggest eKreoss' tier list Crusaders of Sul. You run just his character jack and then bazillions of weapon masters.

I would say avoid eSkarre. Her theme lists, while awesome, and restrictive and won't really help you get a good flavor for Cryx. pSkarre definitely, but eSkarre, no.

All the others play well.

Well it looks like after careful consideration, soul searching, model examning, rule perusing... I'm going to do Kara Sloan Cygnar. I know I didn't see that coming.
