So I'm starting WFB, and my first army is going to be the Wood Elves. Yes, not the recommended starting army I hear, but I want something that isn't as grimdark as my CSM, Chaos Daemons, Dark Eldar or Traitor Guard from 40k.

I made this list, please rate:

1x Spellweaver, lvl 4 (lord) - 225 pts

x1 Waystalker (hero) - 90 pts

x1 Naestra & Arahan, Gwindalor (hero) - 275

x18 Glade Guard, Lord's Bowman, Musician, Swiftshiver Arrows (core) - 318 pts

x12 Glade Guard, Lord's Bowman, Musician, Swiftshiver Arrows, musician (core) - 212 pts

x30 Eternal Guard, Shields, Eternal Warden, Musician, Standard Bearer, Banner of Eternal Flame (core) - 400

x3 Warhawk Riders, Wind Rider (special) - 145 pts

x3 Warhawk Riders, Wind Rider (special) - 145 pts

x8 Waywatchers, Sentinel (rare) - 170 pts

x8 Waywatchers, Sentinel (rare) - 170 pts

x1 Treeman, Strangleroots (rare) - 245 pts

Now I THINK I managed to not break any rules, but make sure to correct me if I broke any rules.

Things I am unsure/wonder about:

Is it better to stick the Banner of Eternal Flame on the Eternal Guard instead?

Would there be any point to sticking a banner on the GG?

Are there any magic items I should consider for my Spellweaver?

Is the list gak?

Which Lore of Magic should I consider using?

How bad are Naestra & Arahan? I like their rules, I like their fluff, I like their looks (except for the dragon, which I won't be using) but I'm always sceptical towards named characters, and I don't really have any real experience with WFB beyond a single introductory game and what I've seen while watching tournaments.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I've been told not to put the banner of eternal flame on the GG. Moving it to the Eternal Guard.

This is actually quite a good list, you have a good core of Archers although the magic arrows are up for debate, i personally use Trueflight, they are much more reliable. On the other hand, IF you use the Lore of High Magic and IF you get the Hand of Glory spell and IF it goes off and IF you increase the units Bs by 3, that unit becomes ridiculous. Not something to believe in, but it worked for me once and 40 Bs 7 armour piercing shots is something to be scared of!

Anyway, onto the list. I'd suggest dropping the Waystalker, i tried them out a lot and they never seemed to work out. Instead drop an Eternal Guard member and you now have yourself a Shadow Dancer to join with the Eternal Guard. She is a great addition by denying ranks and being general bad ass. Try find 20pts for a potion of strength on her for 5 Str 7 Ws 8 ASF attacks!

The Sisters of Twilight are great, especially the Sister who does D6 wounds. They are great at taking out the Chariots wood elves have trouble handling. They are a little fragile, but if you keep them within 6'' of the Warhawk riders then they benefit from a 4+ LOS! which massively helps.

The only thing out of place is the Treean, he is a little to slow to keep up with the Eagles and a lot to tough to not be cannoned off the board turn 2. I'd suggest taking looking into Wild Riders, they pack a massive punch and would help bail out your eternal guard when they get stuck in a long combat.

Welcome to the Tree Huggers.

Generally my idea for the Treeman is that he'll come in and smack the stuff the Eternal Guard hold into place. If that actually works is an entirely different thing. I figured he wouldn't be needing that much speed to do that, as the Eternal Guard are intended in a more reactive and defensive role than anything else.

I was worried about the killing potential for the Eternal Guard, so putting a Wardancer into it might actually be a really good suggestion.

Thank you very much for your input Alex, it was very useful
