So coming in February we have our annual War-gaming Convention and I will be participating in the WHFB tournament

The list I will be running will be

Captain on barded horse with SoAH, Enchanted shield and talisman of preservation (finished) Page 2

14 inner circle knights with full command and steel banner (8 finished 6 stripped (command needing to be painted)) Page 1

5 knights (2 stripped (rest in the stripping pot now))

5 knights (being stripped now)

3 Demigryph knights (mounts almost done riders assembled) Page 2

Steam Tank (some detailing and rivets/hard edges need doing) Progress Page 1

Magnetic Movements trays for all units but demigryphs, and all need painting, 8 finished knights magnetised along with captain

Now I have everything on the list, ad the things to do between now and then include; stripping the really bad paint job i got on them from the original owner for 16 knights, building the Stank, DGK's and 8 knights paint base and make movement trays for everything.

Planning to use this blog to keep me on track as well.

Ive gone with the City of Altdorf for my color and have already got the scheme going on 2 test units before i start the main work

Also nice to see an all cavalry empire list!

my only concern will be the lack of magic, but then i got a very hard hitting combat force with mkoderately hard shooting from the stank

At this point level you should be okay without magic. I'd like to see a hell blaster because those are awesome especially with a master engineer. Just a thought

As tempting as the HBVG is it just isnt mobile and i didnt want any static units in the list.

On an update side. Just assembled my captain and the horses for the knights. Now the knights turn

So i been working on the mounts these last 2 days for the inner circle knights, took the old knights apart ready for stripping, to find they had been super-glued together and onto the mounts and was fun trying to remove them. Bur managed to do so with minimal problems and no damage.

And then started work painting the newly assembled knights horses.

Any tips on what is done so far would be appreciated, and I know I need to give the finished armor a gloss varnish coat to give it a more laquered look.

The metal isn't finished yet either, and i am aware around the rivets need cleaning up.

My main concern is to hard edge the armor or not
[Thumb - DSCF5312.JPG]
so this is the red side, which took the ink quite well i think giving its self a almost natural hard edging.

[Thumb - DSCF5313.JPG]
and the blue side, which didnt take its inking so well on the hard edges so may have to go back and hard edges

So i finally finished my tester model today. Now I have it how i want the units to look for the knights even if I work at a pace of one per day to bring each knight upto this standard it will leave me 2 months to do the Stank and DGK's and Captain

so here he is unaassembled not sure if pic is just bad or if it is that the armor is that bright (lead belcher washed with nuln and the picked up with runefang steel)

any c n c welcome

That horse is looking good not sure about blue and red but thats just a personal thing.

I think that the knight does look pretty bright but were you using a flash to take the picture? That might be why it appears so bright.

Can you show a picture of the fully painted horse and knight fully put together? Looks nice tho from what I can tell

So tonights update:

All 8 horses barding has been hard edged.

2 horses have been fully riveted (just need to clean them up slightly) and full metal work up on them.

Primed the knights themselves.

Damn these 2 days and 12 hour shifts. If not for this delay I would probably have the horses completely finished

And as requested fully assembled still need to varnish the barding

finally finished all the rivets on the 7 horses... now to clean up the mistakes around them and then to paint the horses and details on them

think this is going to be 8 knights in 8 days woulda been faster but then i have to work as well

So decided i needed a break from the knights as I was starting to get careless, probably a by product of working on them every chance I got. And started working on the engine compartment of the Stank.

Since this photo was taken I have cleaned up the brown and washed it with Aggrax Earthshade.

Now I need to wash the metal, and probably hard edge it with runefang, and also pick the details such as uuuugh rivets and the back of the engine out with Runefang as well.

though it is not directly a modeling or painting thing today i got to test out the army, playing the first 3 scenarios that we will be using at the tournament and i scored 3 crushing victories, including 2 games where all i lost was 110 points and the stank being criticaled

Looking good! Good to see that your list has been doing good for you.

I got the whole lot "painted" but most need striping, I was getting tarred down and loosing interest in the knights so ive been working the stank of late

That steam tank looks excellent so far! Silver looks really smooth.
Thinking of starting empire now once I paint up my 2.5k standard list for skaven and will definitely be getting a steam tank!

If your like me and hate seeing rivets not stamding out. Don't. Lmao. I reckon theres around 200 rivets on this thing on show.

On the plus side all i have left is rivets and hard edging.

So heres another Stank update

And on the knights note as well I have got 2 and a half knights worth of silver to finish, 1 face base copat andf the green feathers from the bodies plus the lances and shields to do.

And on a slightly comical note, don't leave your primer spray in a place where you may accidently stand on it, as A you get a stain on your foot and B a cold foot

That tanks looking great!
This is really feeding my need (okay my want) to start of an empire army.

Have you gotten a start on any of your demigryphs yet? Probably want to paint up this other knights beforehand I assume?

You nailed it pretty much. Once these 8 are done and the stank. Im goin to be bathing the other 6 so i got the whole unit finished before moving on

So I've been debating this morning how best to do the skin on the demigryphs. And I really cant decide, though i want to keep it simple and straight forward, and easilly replicatable for when i expand this army after the tournament.

My main idea is this:

Base: Doombull Brown
Layer: Kislev Flesh leaving the doombull in the deepest recesses
Layer: Screaming Skull on most of the flat surfaces
Extreme Highlights/ OSL attempt: White Scar
Glaze: Lamentors Yellow

Which in theory should give me a Lion type look while being easiy replicatable and ill plan to use it in on the griffon when i get one in the future.

Aqny tips comments tips comments or ways you did your skins would be appreciated

So this foot injury hass given me the next 4 or 5 days off and I have managed to bang out the knights to completion leaving just 4 horses, cleaning the rivets, the reigns on 7 knights and whats left of the shields that you can see

So today is going good. Played a friend and for the first time in 8 years I have finally beat him. then got home and nearly finished the other 7 knights to go with the guy above, just the brown horse to finish, all the reigns and the bases, and a minor few touch ups to the knights and shields

What's your process for painting the brown on the horses? Spray black, layer, wash, layer, highlight?

What colours do you use? Just wondering as when I get mine I'm not sure how I'm going to paint them lol
