This was the first GW in Florida and was run by one of the best and most straight up dudes ever, Clay. He is an awesome guy and went way out of his way for customers.
I was there opening day, and brought lots of people into the hobby through that store.
I do not think the store was failing, and I do not see this as a GW cost cut. The location/landlord was definitely screwing GW on that lease and sold the block to be demolished for a Whole Foods. C'est la vie.

EDIT - Didn't intend to post this in N&R, feel free to move to Gen. Discussion.

Its always a shame seeing good people get the boot due to no fault of their own. If I were him and he is liked as much as you say he is by the community, I would look into opening my own shop. They always do well when you have good people running them who actually care about their customers and use this to enhance the customers hobby.

Normally I'd agree with you, but Orlando has like 4 active shops already and numerous failed ones.

A Battle Bunker here in Virginia closed about five years ago and it was amazing. The atmosphere there brought me back into the hobby and even got sister-in-law into the hobby. Again, they were rocking the sales but GW decided to close them down anyway. If they had stayed open I have no doubt I'd still be playing 40k.

Also, check out my history blog: Minimum Wage Historian, a fun place to check out history that often falls between the couch cushions.

Dang, I lived there about ten years ago and don;t remember a GW store being there at all. Do you know when it was put up?

I do remember a few pretty popular Indies though.

Honestly I didn't even know GW had any stores in Florida. Over in my neck of the woods (Tampa) there's a few game stores, but no GW store so it kind of went unnoticed.

Just want to reiterate: I don't think GW chose to close the location. It was in a tough spot with the location being pulled out from under them.

Easy - It's been there for 3.5 years. Opened in an extremely high traffic retail area of Altamonte that was pretty carefully chosen; close to mall, I-4, and upscale retail areas.

Wayne - I think there is a GW in St Pete. Pretty sure I heard about a GW opening in that area. You guys have all the good indie stores in the state, so you don't need one. =D

Haha yeah. It's just unfortunate that the largest one still mostly has 40k and not much else.

Well for a town the size of orlando I would say that market is pretty saturated.
